Such a lovely looking old Ultramarines army. And I love watching Pootle on the channel. I'm not a competitive player, but I love watching how much pleasure he gets out of tactics and playing a good game. Great batrep.
I haven't watched a battrep since the 9th release... But this one is a must to watch. As a Marine player, it stills hurts so much to see how Space Marines have been phased out in the game and the lore. Thank you Winters!
Ever thought about playing not just old school models but an old school battlereport. Like your favorite possible edition in a old school game, I know I would watch it
I don't watch 40k bat reps anymore but this one warmed my cockles. Still have my RT era Crimson Fists. Not as beautifully painted as these Ultras tho! Loved the old aesthetic so much more personally.
As a marine player who started at the end of 2nd (collected a lot of my army in 3rd and 4th edition) and has zero primaris marines, I have no issues with the legends options. At least they still feel like they are part of the current game, even if separated into the "casual play only" category. I expect in the next edition most of my army will lose that "legends status" support and I will essentially have to proxy all of my oldhammer marines as some sorr of primaris marine instead. When that happens, I'll make the move with them to the most current rules. In the interim, I'll just be the old man at the game table with my old models saying things like "back in my day..."
I first got involved with 40k through Space Hulk, so my collection of lead and pewter Terminators is... substantial? I've gone ahead and re-based them with the larger bases and some bits of cork board to bring them at least up to eye-level with modern Termies, they're so wee! They were also early candidates for magnet conversion, also, since the various armament configurations are why I have so many to begin with :) The thing I miss most from Oldhammer are the banners. I loved the quirky pageantry of grimdark Sci-Fi warriors with colourful banners flying above the various units to identify them; it was something uniquely Warhammer
My Orks have got plenty of banners (see the Winters game back in October) but that’s why I decided to do the Medic with a banner: love the craziness of them
SilentSooYun: 'I first got involved with 40k through Space Hulk, so my collection of lead and pewter Terminators is... substantial?' If only by weight alone.
I am so glad to have seen a video featuring a pure firstborn marines list (hopefully more in the future) that still holds up great without the need for newer primaris units. I've got a large collection of firstborn marines that I am currently re-basing to proper sizes and watching this has made me more relieved and confident going forward into 10th edition and glad I never sold off all of it just for what is the current thing, glorious and cheers to you!
As someone who first started collecting Warhammer during the start of 10th edition it's really cool to see the old school retro minis. Makes me want to get some and have them stand next to my primaris black templars to see the differences.
Always funny, narrative, educational, and calming to watch and listen to your show. Painting some pewter orks right now, it’s good to see you guys playing old school because it took us all a lot of years to collect.
I don't play tabletop anymore but this was really entertaining. Loved the ultrasmurfs legends but, although he played perfectly, he also had a lot of luck with the die. GG.
This was an entertaining battle report! And the terrain was gorgeous! You asked a question about Legends armies in the end: I have basically two Dark Angels armies on the works - a purely Legends army and a Primaris army. I also have some lore-brewing considering those if I ever get them to operate simultaneously. Plenty of hobby time to be enjoyed with those! A couple of games I've also played with the Legends leg of the army so far, but my total number of games is so small still that I can't really say if I enjoy Legends specifically or not. All of the minis I do enjoy! However, I'm a bit planning of doing some 3rd edition gaming since that's the time when I originally got to the hobby. Thus, it'll be maxing out the Legends portion of the armies!
Sounds perfect! I also have a load of Primaris Ultramarines and I normally mix and match rather than going for one only, but having your own lore for them is great. It’s not just about the games: collecting and painting the models is often enough for many people
@@WoffbootPootle hear hear! I've very much leaned towards painting and collecting during my hobby stints, gaming has been one small aspect of the whole thing. Anyways, keep up the good work with all things hobbying!

Beautiful miniatures, nice to see people using them instead of shelving them for newer shiner bigger beasts and meta mayfly toys. Original terminator, still after one of those, I do love a mix of generations in my army as I chase fun not meta.. its always a win with Orks.

@@Smilomaniac it's also important to remember that 2nd was designed to be a skirmish game. 2k points was genuinely half the size in terms of models, or even less than that, compared to 3rd, and even more so still compared to the full on armies you need for 10th. When you have a couple of characters, a couple of squads and maybe a single monster or tank it's fine to have all that fine detail as you can still play a game in a reasonable time. I'd say it's a selling point even as it results in more entertaining stories. If you want to depict armies clashing then yeah it ain't so great as trying to do that with 2nd would quickly become a slog. Also the banners and the ww2 style track tanks really gave the armies a archaic look which fit with the grim dark feel which is lost with each new edition.

The game was one big oof. T1 Orks lose a Morkanaut and things just don't improve. Not a case of skill or anything, just really bad luck with terrible rolls and going 2nd.
You’re quite right: the dice were rolling crazily well for me and Winters had terrible luck in comparison. I guess that’s how games go sometimes but it’s a shame as it’s a lot less exciting (for everyone) than a closer game
High point games are too favourable to the shooting army, especially with the easy firing lanes. Should have played like 2500 vs. 2750 Orks to have a decent game, but you actually played 2400 Orks due to a suicidal truck ;)
Ouch! Good spot; we played before the official announcement so it was hard to spot all the implications of the new update. That’s a bit crap though as I don’t feel the Waaagh is all that effective; this really downgrades Warbosses :-(

Fyi... if Winters played that orc boys strategy, no way SM wins with all the well played tactics & dice rolls.
I don't know how you SM players carry on in this format of the game & not revolt.
Hi Winters, will you be doing any more Old World bat reps? Or dare I say it … Spearhead for AoS? 👀😎❤️
Back when Space Marines were cool and actually made sense
Winters, please stop taking Grot artillery!
Those units should not be in legends but in normal rules.
Morning! 😂
High point games are too favourable to the shooting army, especially with the easy firing lanes. Should have played like 2500 vs. 2750 Orks to have a decent game, but you actually played 2400 Orks due to a suicidal truck ;)
As of new faq, Warbosses (normal and mega) do not get their Waaaggghhh abilities if they where in vehicles during the start of the battle round.🫠
Ouch! Good spot; we played before the official announcement so it was hard to spot all the implications of the new update. That’s a bit crap though as I don’t feel the Waaagh is all that effective; this really downgrades Warbosses :-(
