Day 1: Chaffey's Lock to Fifth Depot Lake, Ontario, Canada
Shakedown ride for the Lands End to John O'Groats tour.
    81km
    8°C
This is day one of the shakedown ride I did early in mid-spring in preparation for the LEJOG (Lands End to John O'Groats) ride in the UK in mid-May.
Stopped in Westport for some extra food, then met a couple from the UK (Sarah and Max) who were on the last leg of their round-the-world tour.
Was a really nice ride from Westport to Fifth Depot Lake, where I found a beautiful stealth camp.
Headwinds for the first 15km's, then it was all tailwinds.

Nice! You popped up on my RUclips recommended videos. I watched episode 1. The shakedown ride. Quite a different rig than the last set of videos. Good for you!

Great to see a new video and greetings from the UK. Can only imagine how awful the weather was in May for your ride. Our spring was both cold and wet. Just re-watched your GDMBR videos; I will be starting from Banff next July. Looking forward to seeing how you got on with LETJOG. Looks like you’re carrying more stuff this time.

      Thanks buddy!
That sounds awesome...I bet you're already eager to go...you'll have a blast on the GDMBR I'm sure! More videos to come for the shakedown before the actual LEJOG ride...I hope you enjoy them!
Yes, with the capacity of those huge Ortlieb panniers, I had room for a few more "luxury" items than last year! :-)
      Cheers!

Hey Reinhart, great seeing you at it again 🙂 Canada looks just like Norway in the spring, you know, before the weather gets warm enough for the treeleaf to pop and makes everything green and lush. Instead it's grey-ish brown, cold and dirty. But I guess everything had only just started to turn green when you arrived in England. Cheers 🙂

      Thanks Asbjørn!
Yes, I guess we're in similar climates...was cool, cloudy, still grey with the very beginnings of that green tinge on the trees and bushes...and the sign of things to come.
I hope all is well and the weather is great in Norway!
You'll see how it was when I got to the UK! :-)
      Cheers!

@@reinhartbigl367 My personal favorite is just when the the green has only just poped. It's nice and warm and, as you're touching on, all of the good stuff is ahead of us.
Thanks, same to you with regards to Canada. In my area it's been a summer not to remember for it's great weather. We've had 3 nice and warm weeks from halfway through May and into June, but that's it. At least in my area. There's bin lots of great weather up north, though. It's usually opposites. Nice down south = bad up north and vice versa.
Can't wait for the next one 🙂
      Cheers 🙂

It's great to see you back, Reinhart. I really enjoyed the video and seeing your "back. yard" so to speak. As a brit, I'll be following your progress with keen interest. Did you do the GB Divide. or another route?

Hey Little Moo, thanks...glad you enjoyed the video. As I've never been to the UK, I wanted to experience your culture and villages and towns, so I did the more traditional road LEJOG route...a combo of sustrans and Cycling UK routes, as you'll see! Thanks for letting me know of your channel, I'll check it out! Cheers!
