This week a full update on the restoration of TheCarGuys’ BMW 750i. A low mileage V12 monster that has been sadly neglected, abandoned, and damaged in a glancing blow from a HGV.
The poor old 750 needs some serious TLC. Many might send it to the scrap heap, rather than try to fix it, but so enamoured is he with this car, Damian has decided to restore it to its former glory and back to showroom condition - no matter what the cost or how long it takes.
This episode contains a full explanation of what needs to be done, who is going to do it, and you see the majority of the work completed right before your eyes.
Thank you for watching

By far the best 7 series ever in terms of design. Sleek and not beefed up like its successors.
Agreed
This is my favourite shape 7 series. Glad to see this 750 being restored to its former glory. Loving the glimpse of the panda Daytona too 👍
Glad to see you getting the old girl sorted. Totally agree the E38 is definitely the best looking 7 by a country mile.
Damian, it's your responsibility to join the traffic already on the road, so YOUR bad on that. Now that spot of unpleasantness is out of the way, I'm probably in the minority of your viewers that actually appreciates your 'vids' on your big limo cars (it was your Phaeton episode that got me started on this channel) so a big thumbs up from me 👍.
I was demonstrating what happened in reverse with a lorry. And actually, if you have a car indicating to join the lane and then a CV lorry veers from lane 2 to block you - that’s a) rude and b) dangerous.
@@TheCarGuysTV My point still stands, it is up to you to join the traffic flow safely. I will of course concede that I have no way of knowing the traffic situation as I was not there. Perhaps you were the victim of an unprovoked road rage attack by an uncouth HGV driver whose mother was frightened by a BMW and was hell bent on not letting you join the traffic stream. But the call is yours to make, and you did have your indicator on. Still, a good episode.
Always has to be a guy like little Gary ...yawn
@@alanwayte432 Yep
Beautiful car, still the best looking BMW to date in my humble view. And yes, I am biased, owning one from 1997 myself in beautiful "oxford green" 😊. It has a smaller V8 engine, tough, but this is good enough for me. Looking forward to see more from this beauty on your channel. Greetings from Germany!
Greetings right back, Jens
I'm a E38/E39 diehard fan. By far the best 5/7 series IMHO.
Agreed…one of the top 3 most beautiful sedans ever made.
Great to see this car coming back to life. I had an E32 735i SE in white with blue interior and optional split rims for many years. I think I still prefer that shape on the shorter wheelbase cars. Loved it! Looking forward to seeing the 750iL done! Silver suits it well.
A car from the absolute golden age of car making! I love your garage but if there's one I had to pick for a drive it would definitely be this one.
These videos are awesome Damian - Great content, awesome car, superb finished result. Jake did well !
Lovely car and great to see it finally getting some love. A 25-odd year old car that is still one of the best cars for what it was designed to do.
I do think that this era was a high point for BMW across the range. Such a classy design, simple but stylish. Great thay you're bringing her back to her former glory. Now you just need to put your chauffeurs hat on and drive Jason to some more auctions to add to the collection.
Awesome, just awesome. I love the restoration of worthy metal from yesteryear. Very deserving for this wonderful machine from an era of great cars with a soul. Great car Damian & an ace channel 👏
Congrats on getting this back on the road,, I am with you, I love it…..
Well done Damian! I’m happy you keep it on the road. It’s such a beauty!
Been waiting for this video , proper proper motor 👌🏻cannot wait to see the finished car.
absolute class D, haha. I had 2, an drove many more E38s, many miles; my first was an early 3ltr V8, I blew the coolant hose off in sport mode down clerkenwell EC1.
what can'ya, say, a well sorted E38, don't wanna know bout the 2.8, rest of em, is a lovely thing.
More beautiful in dark colours
Beautiful car 🙂 always loved these barges
This is exactly what petrol heads love to see ,, a proper car having work done and it all documented,,, great video and graphics!!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Looking forward to the next video of the finished 750. Love these luxury barges. Had the very much inferior 728 a lot of years ago. Still a superb drive.
With your garage, I would be hard pressed to drive the 750. Unfortunately!
Good work, had to get a new windscreen for mine, a genuine OEM replacement through Autoglass back in January. Had a 6 week wait but well worth it 👌
This video of the BMW restoration was very interesting Damian, actually I don't remember if you ever shot a video like this. Maybe a VLOG of your car fleet maintenance segment would be cool. Congratulations
Well done... great to see an E38 being restored... looking forward to the final video. 😎
Amazing car, it deserves that treatment, thanks for the upload 👍😁
Can’t wait to see the finished result 👍👍
E38 is one of my favorite car of all time, especially Alpine.✌️👍
Great video guys👍💯
A 19 year old me at uni way back in 03 had a lovely 728i sport, 97 R reg. Good times indeed...I got pulled over all the time. How times change...Q5 50e nowadays
As an ex BMW 'tech'🥱 🤣 I've always preferred a dark E38 especially V12's. Good one you for bringing a true legend back to life. Unfair to compare to Maybach but a complement non the less...maybe S500, and early ones at that? I hope you have deep pockets with this one 😳 Have a great weekend and I look forward to your next upload 🍻
Looks good in silver but does look better in different colors. Awesome.
Great stuff Damien 👍👏
A smart looking executive saloon that. Sharp lines. BMW really got the exterior of that generation of seven series spot on. The interior and the ruched leather not so much.
KEEP IT, SIR!!! You will regret selling it. They are only going to increase in value as a happy byproduct.
What a gorgeous BMW, it looks so much better in silver.
Such a great shape. Iconic
Going to look class when it’s done.
Yes great content. We want to journey with you mate and your collection.
Nice S2 Elise at 2:55 !
Glad to hear that Jason is coming out of hibernation
Lovely car 🚘🚙🚗👍👍👍👍👍
I love these cars:)
Great Vid and a good watch, would love to see this Exec Express back out there doing its thing, lovely looking cars. Strangely I was actually present at the filming of the care chase scenes in the Multi-Story car park (which was actually filmed at the Brent Cross Shopping Centre and the engine note you can hear in the film was actually from the bloody loud TVR 350i camera chase car and not the BMW). Still looked epic in action though. Looking forward to see the next installment and this badboy back on the road!!
Loved this video
The creaking over bumps may be the front suspension top mounts, mine sounded like a creaky old wooden boat, replaced both top mounts and it was back to normal again.
Built as an Autobahn storm trooper @ 155 mph, limited. Equally happy on a Sunday pub lunch trip...nice machine.Maybach is on another level ..Alan Sugar ?
I love the shape of these.
A highly enjoyable and well edited video,.
Wise decision to replace the air filter, they become with the time stiff (by humidity and drying up again) and have than reduced airflow.
Lorries need to keep their speed for fuel efficiency. You could have easily sped up a lot faster with the v12. Also, love the dark colors but the silver is the best color for the e38.
I'm afraid you don't understand the full situation - I take your point but no, that would have been dangerous.
@@TheCarGuysTV Thx for the quick reply. Makes sense what you are saying.
100% agree e38 is the best 7 series ever made
An 80’s dream car.
Apart from the fact they launched in 1994.
@@mulletmanpete the first 750 I v12 was in the 80s. I do remember perfectly because I was in the university at that time
Love this sort of content, the car by far looks great in its true colour …… pity it did not have a tan interior, then it would have been spot on ?
lovely motor
Great shape, still like these as well.
Love the plate
Interesting that BMW didn't turn the wiper movement around on a RHD car, hmmm Cheers from a fellow serial E38 owner. :)
YES!
Can't believe that this is becoming an antique now! am I getting older or cars are having identity crisis nowadays ?!
Good video
Well done and good luck " one little thing you should do just paint all the black plastic around the doors and bumpers as tge Car colour 👍
This is only BMW I would buy. Could you do a video detailing expenses with regards to maintenance, please?
I have one for sale. Beautiful car. Let me know if interested.
Love this video - so nice to see the transformation, especially as its a car you love, not a car that you randomly bought to generate RUclips content. Are you going to tell us how much it cost?
Yes in the follow up episode
my favourite thing about these old bmw's was the inbuilt phone... I always thought that was pukka as a kid
Completely agree
Love the E38 any chance of an update?
Usually I love seeing restorations on neglected E38´s - but honestly man, you managed to end up a pristine Japan low milage example as a daily, blasting miles on it, modifying it, to finally leaving it nelected by letting it rot outside in these northern European conditions and even letting origiginal parts being stolen off it!!
The car deserved better - hope, you make up for it... 😔
By the way, the Motorola Phase V phone works fine even today by using the current GSM standard already - you provider is just to issue you a classic and matching SIM card, which has to be placed into the card slot of the control unit within the trunk, but NOT the eject box upfront!
And: If it happens multiple times that your wing mirrors are driven off by a lorry "flying" up from behind, you better either get tthe M73 engine checked over properly if all the 326BHPs are home, or you have an issue finding the throttle paddle... 😅
That never happened to me, neither in an 728 nor an Alpina b12... 🤔
Please consider this as constructive critisicm...
Bring 718 Spyder back to the channel please
Cracking car for 12k 👌🏼
I own a 01 E-38 750/. Silver/black leather,how much should I look for
Can you make a video om the new omega moonswatch? I really like what they have done
Will you be replacing the headliner too? It looked a bit “floppy” at the back?
Yes - well spotted
Definitely leave the E.V ranting alone and get back to what you guys do best....these types of Car Guys Videos. 750 IL was a beast of a car, that V12 was smooth you can balance a 50p piece on the pellum chamber between the two intakes. The integral rear suspension links and rear rose bushes (mentioned) always wear out and also the front thrust arm joints and bushes. Seems BMW always wear out their suspension joints quickly. Other then that I don't remember many other problems. Definitely worth keeping it up together.
Absolutely love these cars, thank god your sorting the poor thing out. It's definitely a keeper. You should check out the RUclips channel m539 restorations. He restores old bmws and did one of these. A fantastic channel, highly recommend.
I’ll check it out - thanks
Cannot for the life of me understand why this channel has not blown up yet and the growth is so slow. All the effort and money Damian puts into it for little to no add revenue 🤷♂️
Appreciate that.
@@TheCarGuysTV seems the only way is to buy a smashed up lambo and fix it 😂. Get your sleeves rolled up Damian!
personally I'd replace those cast headers for a lighter stainless 12 into 2. check yr rear axle carrier bearings, an all control arms, drop links etc, an replace old tranny fluid.
Fantastic car, I guessed it engine is the same as the Rolls-Royce Phantom.
This car was produced several years before BMW purchased Rolls Royce in 2002.
Damian was not the issue entering the road. Everyone hopefully should be aware that as you approach a slip road as difficult as it can be at times particularly at heavy traffic periods should be prepared to make way to vehicles entering the main carriage way. The more cars we have on the road the more difficult it will become.
i own a swb silver 750 . why on earth did you wrap it ? poor car :) ..... glad to see shes back again !
👍🏻👍🏻
If it were me. I would sell the Benz and drive the much cooler BMW. The Benz is huge. It seems like the BMW would be a better daily.
Weird question: Why dont you use the wipers in this car?
My cads were also stolen, because the car sat so long,I have straight pipe now
I don't know how you see through all that water on your windshield while you're driving. You have windshield wipers and they seem to work, but you have to actually use them for them to be effective. You also didn't mention the sagging headliner clearly visible in the rear of the vehicle. That's going to be a job all by itself. Good luck with the car.
Roof lining next job. Thanks for watching.
The most exciting click bait ever "Service & MOT" :) :)
😂😂😂
How can I restore my E38 like that in Portugal?
Mine is very nice/and clean, been sitting longer the driving
Are those 3 company factories in the same park?
Yes they are
squeaking in the rear could just be the rubber on the parking brake cable in the rear that needs attention..
Damian....was the converter stolen at your home location? Hopefully not.
No it wasn’t
Was it too much just to put a waterproof outdoor cover on the car when it was sat outside?
Obviously not
The wagon did nothing wrong! @5:00 right side always has priority when joining a carriageway/junction and he did not come up your inside; you are joining them not them joining you. 😆🤦♂️
What country are you in?
Please take the V12 badge off the c pillar, it breaks up those beautiful lines we all treasure. It's also not discreet and understated as this car deserves...
95% “Jibber Jabber” 5% actual video of restoring the car
One question how much?
We'll find out when it's finished.
I have a golden one. I am looking for somebody to fully restore it properly.
Gie it some style 37 rims
Yay! A return to form after all the "driving all the Ferrari's" rubbish. I love the E38, one of the best in the collection.
That’s rubbish?
@@TheCarGuysTV Yes! I prefer the real world stuff. Still love the channel though Damian.
Damian is a very bad influence. Since watching their videos, I have a purchased a 675LT, a GT3 Touring and just purchased a Maybach S600. Great taste in cars!
Good lord, Richard - you’ve got it bad 👏👏
Cost as much to restore as buying its replacement..😬🤪🤔
But why not..😎🤪
Didn't look like that truck did anything wrong? You should have just slowed down.
I was demonstrating what happened in reverse with a lorry.
And actually, if you have a car indicating to join the lane 1 and then a lorry veers from lane 2 to block you - that’s a) rude and b) dangerous.
Rude or dangerous, it's still your responsibility to enter the live lane correctly, if you can't do that for, A..... Lack of knowledge or B..... Your just to pig headed to think these rules apply to you... Then can I recommend a good book, it's called The Highway Code....
Btw.. great vid.
@@wagsie1865 Hence why I braked and let him pass - or did you miss that bit in your haste to comment?
Hmm that's wierd, usually the 750 is a LWB
No - 2 different types. Long wheel base is the 750iL
@@TheCarGuysTV ya I know the 750li was the long wheel base, I just didn't know they ever offered a 750i
Think you owe Wrings Transport an apology. They did nothing wrong, you were joining the road and it’s your duty to ensure it’s safe to do so, which in your case it wasn’t. Read the Highway Code.
I was demonstrating what happened in reverse with a lorry. And actually, if you have a car indicating to join the lane and then a CV lorry veers from lane 2 to block you - that’s a) rude and b) dangerous.
@@TheCarGuysTV In those conditions it's really difficult to see when driving a truck. Have a try at driving one some day. I speak as a sometimes truck driver, motorcyclist and supercar driver (not that it's important what you drive). Truck drivers in the UK get too much abuse from other road users, the HGV test in this country is one of the hardest driving licences to obtain anywhere, the car licence in this country is the minimum level required to drive on the roads. Nice BMW though, made in an era when the designers at BMW made good looking cars.
saggy headliner?
