    2004 would be heartbreaker years for both of these outstanding players. Coria goes on to lose the French Open to a little known player Gaston Gaudio after squandering dominating play and multiple match points. Roddick would begin his humiliation tour as the constant runner-up to the GOAT Roger Federer. Both events will change these two players forever. I’m sure they had no idea their lives would change so incredibly just months after this match.

      I would argue Roddick was much less affected by his ordeal. He almost beat Federer at Wimbledon 2009 and had a couple of wins over the Swiss elsewhere.

    roddick's backhand is really underrated. They say it was his weakest shot, but in his prime andy had really solid backhand, as you can clearly see in this match.

    Me impresiona como resta el servico de Roddick como si fuese algo tan simple, sin duda el Mago podía esquivar balas con esa agilidad en el resto. Grande Coria

    Excelente calidad! Cálculos renales tenía el mago, por eso los dolores que parecían en la espalda y su retiro en el 4 set.

      He had a flatter more aggressive forehand at this stage - it became a defensive topspin forehand later in his carreer

    Hitting all those backhands seem like a damn workout for Roddick. His technique is so tiring! I love his game, but if you just look at Coria's BH, you'll see he spends way, way less energy on each shot.

      Roddick's volleying was pretty decent; It was his approach shots which costed him.

      BJ12578 no return game either. Average fitness. Not great placement on his serve. And he stopped hitting his forehand like this later on in his career when power tennis started dying out. Still love him tho.

      Jaja no se de que te reis, Coria nunca se caracterizó por potencia, medía 1,74 y pesaba 65 kilos que potencia puede tener. Lo de el era el talento, es más, los mejores puntos del partido vienen del lado de Coria, no se si viste el primer set, no se si alguna vez jugaste al tenis.

      @@cristianmoncada3663 aburrido es un isner, no un tipo que te puede hacer un drop shot de la línea de saque, conseguir angulos tremendos, globos de todo tipo, pero bueno va en gustos. No fue tan talentoso como el chino Ríos, pero tenía un estilo de juego similar. Me extraña que te guste el estilo de juego de Ríos pero odies el de Coria por falta de potencia, el Chino Ríos no era precisamente potente, o será que mirás la bandera de Coria nomás

    I don’t understand why people always criticized roddicks backhand, I mean it wasn’t a major weapon but it was by no means terrible.

      springfield03sniper which may be a trade off he was happier with, if he just wanted longevity and consistent results more than being a streaky guy. Though I imagine after his career is over he’d rather have had one more slam as opposed to five more semifinals.

      @@jihwankim4678 yup. this was the roddick that had the best chance to challenge Federer's dominance. he didn't need to mess with his forehand; just pick his spots to attack better and fix that garbage backhand. but fed's never gonna be beaten by allowing him to dictate play and hoping he makes more errors which is what roddick's tactics boiled down to.

      Before 2008 all masters finals were best of five.

    Coria, from my point of view was very clever, fast, great backhand.
    I didnt like his forehand at all, specially when attackin.
    In a certain way I see Coria as a
    player that at his early age was an evolutioned player, as If he had
    already passed trough that aggressive phase every player has. At 20´s
    his game had no room for evolutions. Like Djokovics today. The diff is
    that I have seen an agressive Djoko (2011), but never an agressive Coria.

      Perhaps because Coria was a counterpuncher and player that prioritized creativity and artistry instead of just aggressiveness all the time. He was more like a beautiful blend of these things.

      2 different Eras with different court speed. With the speed he has, he will have more time on each ball in today’s game which he can utilise to improve his shot. With his speed he can improve his stroke easily, but it didn’t happen so noone can tell.

      Coria was a privilege talent player, but his career never was the same after RG 2004 final, every legend player of the tennis history must to win finals like that, that one hits Coria in a huge way.

      @@visweswarraopappu7757 Exactly, the first one of the four forehand winners Roddick hit to break Federer's serve in the third set. He recovered his memory from his young years in that one game to beat Federer. It was the last time we saw him hitting that hard.

      @@magiclickmilagroso4219 nop. Fingía lesiones y era sucio en algunas ocasiones para jugar. Por dar dos ejemplos está Hamburgo 2003 y Roland Garros 2004. Encima arrugando esta última.

      Puede q alguna vez haya jugado con eso, pero en este caso tenía calculos en los riñones. Era un físico muy debil el de Coria igualmente

    Todo lo forro y sobrador que fue Coria en su exitosa y corta carrera lo demostró en este partido, no jugando el último punto. Así le fue en la final con Gaudio en RG. Mucho tenis pero 0 cabeza.

      Cálculos renales tenía, por eso se tuvo que retirar. Y estos partidos eran a 5 sets (finales de los masters). Parece que para algunos el tenis empezó después del 2010.
