Women who have no family history of breast cancer and don’t carry the BRCA1 or 2 gene mutation, have only a 12% chance of getting breast cancer in their lifetime.
But, women with BRCA1 have about a 65% chance of developing it by the time they turn 70; the likelihood is a little lower for women with BRCA2 at 45%.

This is good, but what about men? We ALL have the BRCA gene, including me. Sometimes men have mutations on their BRCA gene, and sometimes men get breast cancer too.

In 1928, my Mother was born premature and severely underweight. She was treated with Radiation for underdeveloped eyes, etc. To my knowledge, she was the first in family to show signs of BRCA and breast cancer in late 30's. I inherited the BRCA 2 Mutation and breast cancer in early 30's. Might the radiation have mutated her chromosome or was that irrelevant? I'm curious what damaged her genes, as well as mine?

Does anyone know what the implications of having both Brca1 and Brca2 mutations? Does it increase risks further?
