I loved his character. He was such a great actor. I'm sad that Rachel never showed any interest.
The guy is extremely kind in real life. He worked at B. Pig in Hollywood as a coffee server back in the early 90s and was always the nicest person- every time. I was so happy to hear he got his role.

So, a lot of fans don’t know that the character of Gunther was given to this a actor who was originally a crew member. Because he was the only one on the set who could work the Cappuccino Machine! 🤗🙏❤️🇨🇦
He was an extra, not a crew member. He was cast as a patron of the coffee shop but the person they said was a waiter couldn’t work the machine

They missed key scenes where
1) Rachel argues with Gunther to give Joey his waiter job back and Gunther simply agrees to give back the job.
2) When Rachel was leaving for Paris, Gunther confessed his love for Rachel.
Also who thinks Mark was better than Ross
or the one where he faints after Rachel holds hands with him
And where he buys the cat for 1,500

Friends was my comfort show during my parent divorce at a young age. I related heavily to Rachel and her endeavors. Gunther was also a great joy to watch. And his jokes were always written so perfectly tailored to his character and I'd be like "that's a Gunther joke". He would make me laugh and all the real world troubles didn't matter. I am forever grateful for the way films and TV connect us. A beacon of joy before I knew how sacred of a thing joy was. We love you Gunther. Rest in peace James Michael Tyler.
