Ross was the kindest friend. He was and often is really underappreciated because many people don't even remember storylines on this show&have biases. He kissed Joey to help him, he drove to help the others when they were out of gas in the middle of nowhere( and by the way, I think they were really bad friends to leave Ross alone. You could see how hurt he was when he was at Carol's. One of them should have stayed with him). He skipped Discovery Channel shoot to take care of Rachel when she had a fractured rib and bought Joey that infamous fake dog. He took care of Marcel, talked his ex-wife back into getting married, and gave her away at the wedding when her own family had abandoned her. He offered to loan Monica money when she was broke and back at their childhood house he offered up some of his own childhood memorabilia so she wouldn't get upset that hers was ruined, he got the Sting tickets for Phoebe and this bike of course( the most wholesome episode). He also tried to help Phoebe with her relationship with Mike, in the one with Vikram. He was so kind to that cookie-selling girl, he let Rachel win at poker even though he is so competitive, he ended segregation in the museum cafeteria and went to sit with Joey. He agreed to not date anyone while Rachel was pregnant in order to be there for her completely and took Emily out when they first met, so Rachel could go out with Joshua. When Emily asked him to not see Rachel anymore he was gonna leave the group so Rachel wouldn't have to even though he had known the others longer while Rachel was trying to get Phoebe to leave the group with her. And I'm sure he did more things that I can't remember right now. Sure, he had flaws like all of them, but he will forever be the best friend in the group for me. He was always there for all of them and had their backs. And I don't understand the people hating on Ross because of some mistakes. No one is perfect.
All four have the personality traits in the start Monica- Realizes first that pheobe will crash any second Ross- Is hoping that Pheobe will stop pretending and get off but surprised that she did fall down with the bike. Chandler - Realizes she's gonna fall and waiting for it to happen Joey- Doesn't realize how could pheobe fall since she know how to ride a bike
I love the dynamic here with Ross and Phoebe. One thing though - they act surprised that Phoebe can't ride a bike - but they know she never had an opportunity

Ross was such a good person and friend and David Schwimmer without a doubt had the best performance in the series. The boys couldn't have been pulled off by any other actor but especially Ross Never understood the hate Ross gets. And they said Ross was the worst and highly selfish. I admit, he has his terrible moments (like all the main characters), but folks always glossed over when Ross does good for others like this.
True, It seems like the directors always wanted to make him the bad guy, but this episode where he teaches phoebe how to ride a bike was directed by David himself so you can clearly see the difference on how Ross is treated.

this totally reminds me of when my mom's bff's son was learning to ride his bike. Our friend Keith was teaching him and did pretty much the same thing. Gary then said don't let go keith and Keith who was down the street yelled out Don't worry man I won't let go!

I didnt have a bike until junior high. Learned by coasting a friend's bike down a long hill and then trying to keep it upright as long as I could by pedaling.
