  • In today's episode, I'm going to share how I repot this phalaenopsis orchid with a long stem.
This rescue orchid recently came into my care and now I gotta figure out what to do with this plant. It's been growing out the pot for a long time now and the top of the orchid now looks very top heavy. I'll share how I repotted this orchid and the thought process behind what I am doing.

Thank you for mentioning how the root system will eventually adapt! I was worried that my orchid only had the aerial roots but now I'm glad that's nothing to worry about 💛

As dehydrated as it was, before repotting, I'm surprised you didn't turn the plant upsidedown and soak the leaves for 20 minutes or so.

Can you make a video about repotting orchids with healthy long stems, do you always cut the story and how you treat/seal it?

I will have to find an orchid that meets your conditions. Basically, you can repot it without cutting off the roots and put it in a pot that fits the root size. Thanks for the suggestion 😁

Well done. I thought the bottom part will put in a keiki for you. Any how it is like half empty half filled. So the top part will cheer you up in the near future.

Yea, if the bottom half had any green, it woulds probably keiki. In this case, there’s no life left in the bottom half. Thanks for sharing your thoughts 😀

I thought orchid roots were supposed to have air exposure and that plastic pot looks solid?

Just found this except mine has healthier leaves and not all my roots are dead.
So I repotted the whole thing in a four inch pot but there's still alot sticking out.
Now the 5 inch pots I ordered are stuck at customs so they may never get here..... I got my 6 inch pots and I've been looking at them.
Is 6 inch too big if most of the roots are viable ?
And most of the videos say to never put aireal roots in the pot but I'd like to put about half in there.
Is that a bad idea? They say they won't adapt to the soil.

HELP! What do I do? My Phal has a very long, green, alive stem with viable roots all the way up and down the stem. I fear her roots may not be able to reach the medium some day. She has 20 leaves and she had 7 flower spikes last year and I ended up cutting off the 8th one because she was blooming herself into oblivion (That's enough sugar! Stop blooming!) Help with the stem please. What a cute cat.
