What's your favorite National Park in the USA? Joshua Tree is up there for me, but I still think that Canyonlands is my fave.
Got to go with Yosemite, myself.
@@ArtofFreeSpeech That's a good one for sure!
@@shalfean CA has so much natural beauty
Joshua tree is amazing, but Yosemite, Canyonlands and Arches are pretty high on my list too.
No idea. I'll tell you when I get to visit some day.... 😆
What makes cycling special to me is that it slows me down enough to appreciate being here rather than wanting to be somewhere else. It opens up my heart to how amazing it is to be present. I loved seeing your interaction with that family. Cycling turns simple thing into beautiful events. 🙂
So well said. The here and now is what's more important, and that's what makes us appreciate the simple things
Ryan Van Duzer my dose of goodness in my week. You mange to encapsulate why I love bicycle touring. I have ridden lots of rides in Australia and one in Germany and Austria. Unfortunately I am now not riding much as I am home looking after my terminally ill wife. My big goal once she is gone is to ride around Europe for 3 months and reconnect with all the good people in the world. Everyone talks to cycle tourists. We are non threatening and always seem to stoke interest in the people we meet. Thanks for brightening what is a pretty sad time in my life. And give Amelia a big hug.
Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear about your wife. This must be so hard for you, I can't even imagine the pain. I'm sending you a big hug from Boulder.
Sounds like your wife is lucky to have such support and love. Wishing you both moments of laughter and love if still possible. I know first hand how tough it can be supporting someone you love until the end. So soul soothing to have a meaningful goal to move too as a next stage. Wishing you lots of goodness in life!
🗣️ ”MOTION IS THE LOTION!”
It's a good one!
I love the people you met this episode! What a joy!
Fun! Fun! Fun!
You're my hero, too!! Safe travels. 🤗
Thank you!
Ryan, you are an inspiration. So positive all the time and see the best in everything. Thanks for that.
I appreciate that!
Another great video Ryan! Thank you!
Still enjoying your vids Ryan and yes Slab City is a unique place. Ride on!
It sure is!
Another great one man I definitely want to do that ride maybe just to pioneer town from my area
It’s soooo beautiful!!!
I am glad you had a good experience in Slab City. Dr. Spencer seems like an interesting and eclectic person. The person who had the back injury reminded me of the people you met at RAGBRI. You always have a way of lifting up peoples spirits and inspiring them ," to get out there." I am also disappointed about the amount of liter that is in our National Forests and Deserts. This issue has definitely been a systemic problem. I have read about some Airzona Trail hikers having people shooting near their tent and people don't realize the trail is there. I believe it is just a matter of more education and signs to make everyone safe on the trail. You're an awesome human , Ryan. Thanks for sharing your journey with us.
Excellent video of your Southern California adventures.
Glad you enjoyed it
Another great video. I met the New Zealand gal in La Ventana BCS where I kiteboard. She had just about finished the Baja divide. Sounded like she loved it. She was great to talk to. She mentioned that she was interested in going from Alaska to Argentine some day. I bet she does. Keep up the good work, Ryan.
Oh wow!! What a small world!! I enjoyed talking with her
Sounds like she probably watched Itchy Boots travels from Argentina to Alaska.
@@5Placas Well she said “human powered travel”, I don’t think she’s talking about a motorcycle.
Love the positivity dude !
Thank you Ryan for filming everything for us! I love your channel notifications cause I know there's a motivation dose coming. Be safe and keep going!
You are so welcome! And thank you for watching my videos
Can't wait to visit Joshua Tree again!
Bike trips are awsome? Great video definitely. Cheers.
The best!
What a Blessed Day.. Connecting with Humans.. Shea solo bikepacker & Steve & his family.. Pioneer town was very Cool to see..Seeing your videos always puts a smile on my face 😀
Ole' Ole' Ole'
It was an awesome day indeed, and happy that I can share it with you
Thanks for this balade, beautiful 👍
My pleasure!
Amazing video. Loved the unexpected human interactions. Made my day.😁
Got the crashies and flaties....but still in the dark a bit of what a whammy is ??? :). Another great video....
Use your imagination :)
Another great post! Your videos have helped me be a little more patient on my rides. If I have a particularly tough climb, I think “if I wasn’t riding, I’d likely be hiking anyway so what’s the problem?” As I trudge my way along.
That's a great way to look at it
What made Pioneertown different than any other movie set is that people lived there, and still do. Don't worry, the turkey is still ther. I am a resident🤠.
oh good!! I was worried about that Turkey :)
Attitude. The difference between ordeal and adventure.
Well said!
Life is goooooooooodd 🤜
Great vid as always.
Glad you enjoyed it
I’m sure you know this, but just in case - as you come back north past the Salton Sea there’s a paved road that goes east through a box canyon - Box Canyon Road - from near Mecca to the Cottonwood Springs entrance of Joshua Tree. It’s a fun route. All paved though. Looks like you went past Berdoo - nice and remote. P.S. big fan.
Oh cool! I'll try that next time
Have to agree, never met a Zealander I didn’t like! But then again I am a sailor as much as a cyclist; ).
They're all really cool!
Great episode. (Need I write more?)
Thanks! I like it short and to the point
I really enjoy your videos and your comments throughout them. So I was going to buy your book to show a little support for all your hard work. But when I proceeded to go through the ordering process the $25.00 + shipping cost seemed just a little excessive so regrettably I stopped the order. Sorry.
I'm sorry about the shipping, it's so expensive internationally...I'll be releasing an ebook soon! Thanks for your support
I plan on taking my dog Carmella on this ride, 2.4" tires adequate? What do you think?
Yep, that’ll do it
Hey Ryan, Thanks for another great episode. Does the bikepacker from New Zealand Shea creates content of her biking journey?
I don't think so, I looked.
Spray paint on boulders 👍 old fridges used as target practice 👎 old fridges used as art on slab City 👍
haha, yes!
Those gunshots are quite scary I always worry about you on these trips like your mom be safe
I called my mom that night and she could hear all the madness in the background. Needless to say, it didn't ease her nerves :)
I watch this to escape all the BS on tv at night, calming
I appreciate hearing this, thank you
I think, I don't know for sure, but my guess is the addition of "no loitering" has to do with the prevention of "terroristic activities", specifically a "terrorist" standing around "loitering" by vital infrastructure, like attempting to poison a water supply, etc. The "no loitering" legal warning posting, gives law enforcement authorities the legal right to question and investigate an apparent "loiterer" without violating the alleged "loiter's" rights. As I ride by water towers in rural water districts, the same language is used on the legal warning signs.
Awww, gotcha. Thanks for making sense of that for me
Very interesting bike ride and kudos for your sticking to it. I dislike graffiti as much as shotgun shell litter. What's up with both of them? Please stop???
your videos are so special to me, cause once i start one of your videos the smile never leaves my face, the amount of happiness coming out from my screen is just unbelievable . i appreciate the good effort you are making ❤🚵🚵
You are so kind to say that! Thank you
This was one of your best eps. The journey, people conversations, scenery ect ! Great ride.
Glad you enjoyed it, I loved it as well...such beautiful areas to ride
Fantastic video Ryan, its so heartwarming to see families out cycling together and how cool was Shea? All the way from New Zealand and she has only done a 4 day trip in NZ, so inspiring like yourself👍
Shes raised to next step.
I agree! Good people all around on this day.
Your summary of Dr. Spencer’s nugget of wisdom on changing your mindset when you don’t like something was a great lesson for Zoe and Sam (and everyone else) to hear as we watched as a family. Thanks for the ride and for your endless positivity. Olé!
Nice to “meet” you and your awesome Fam, Stephen! I hope to randomly run into Duzer someday too 😊
Meeting you and your family was the highlight of my entire tour!! I'm so glad that you reached out on IG and made it happen.
Thank you for another outstanding video. Joshua Tree park is so special and unique.
Meeting and riding with the family warmed my heart.
About a month or so ago there were two Brits riding the busy road that you mentioned. They were bicycling from Miami Florida to LA. Their ride " Two bikes, One wheelchair" was to raise money to buy adaptive chairs, bikes etc for disabled children. Francis pulled a trailer with Justin's wheelchair, while Justin pedaled a hand bike ( he had lost the use of his legs a while back) Their goal was to raise £20,000. They raised over
£163, 000!!!!
Great story! Good for them I'll look for it later
That's so cool!!
Look up 'Francis cade' on the tubes it was all documented
Ah, the self reflection of being 44… me too brother!
You certainly do a better job verbalizing it than I do..
keep up the good work Ryan, we love you!
Ryan, thanks for sharing all those positive vibes. Stay safe my friend.
Always! Happy Sunday
Greetings from the Canadian prairies. Ryan, your entire channel is "good for the soul." I really appreciate your reflections and your adventurist spirit, and you never take things too seriously.
This road is a path that I am on in life, and I'm grateful for it!
Love it!!
@@duzer I had a really bad fall the year before the last, and I stopped riding because I let fear take over. But I miss that road... So I decided this spring I will be there again.
Great ride Ryan thanks for letting us tag along. Oh anytime you’d like to go shooting hit me up. Unfortunately fear and propaganda have skewered many minds regarding firearms. Anyways I love you peace out ✌️oh and yes Shooters pick up your mess you dumb azz’s. You give the rest of us a bad rep!!
Sounds good my man, I'd love to learn about shooting. My grandpa was a green Beret, but he didn't live long enough to teach me how to shoot :(
Was expecting the gunfire soundtrack to continue... Going ok I think this is a good spot far enough away ...boom... Nope 🤣
But yes right there with you on people who don't pickup their brass or casings... I have a big tarp down when I shoot so yeah I collect all my spent stuff ... Inexcusable to just leave crap everywhere as it gives the rest of us recreational shooters a bad rap ...
I appreciate that you’re one of the considerate ones. Thanks for looking after our outdoor places
Yay!!! Been waiting for this!!! Thanks Ryan for the amazing and inspirational videos you make!!!
And thank you for watching them!!
Hey RVD. Freakin’ loved the book!! That was a wonderful read and travel log. Thanks for the share and work required putting it out. Also, I used to live in Coachella Valley 45+ years ago. I have biked on some of the same roads in the valley, Anza Borrego and up to JT. Nice to see it is still there and still awesome. This has been a wonderful video series. Thanks!
Thanks for reading my book! I really appreciate it. I truly loved this area so much, I gotta go back
I LOVE Joshua tree. Visited in 2020. No one there. Amazing place. Also, I'm super jealous of Steven and his family. I'd love to ride Joshua tree with you. Great vid as always. Thanks for the hard work filming and editing.
It was quite the thrill. 😁
It's a surreal area!
Always turn a negative into a positive. Simple. But excellent advice.
Yep!
Ryan you always have great words of positive encouragement….keep it rolling friend
New subscriber here! I love your videos, your attitude and outlook on life. Wishing you the best Ryan and can’t wait to watch your next adventures!
Thanks and welcome!! I hope that you enjoy my videos
Great video! I'll most likely do this route in March, as my first ever bikepacking trip.
You're in for a treat!
You are such a warm and kind human. Loved the way you connected with those kids !!
Those kids were so fun!
Ryan, you are a gift to humanity.
Another great production, enjoyed the people you meet. So greatful, thanks.
Meeting people is my favorite part!
Hello Ryan!! Great video!! I was planning a trip out in the desert myself, I think I'm going to do it next month! Maybe take two months!! I am going to ride to Barstow then up to death valley then down through the Mojave national preserve to Mitchell caverns and down through Joshua tree past the Salton Sea to slab City then all the way back up to death valley a different route!! And maybe even points beyond!! And then you come up with the desert ramble!! LOL!! You beat me to it!! That's pretty cool!! Great minds think alike!! I'm still going to do it, probably next month!! I can't wait!! Thanks for giving me these previews!! 🌎🚴🤘
Right on! That sounds like a great route. Have fun out there!
@@duzer thank you Ryan I will!! But first I'm going to use a rail pass for a month of traveling!! But I can't wait to get to the desert I love it out there!!! Rock on Ryan!!! 🌎🚴
I love your content Ryan, I’m mainly a mountain biker but I am fascinated by bike packing. One day I’ll work up the courage to go on a bike pack journey
THE TAILOR SWIFT OF BIKING IS THE BEST!!
hahaha!! We're going on tour soon ;)
What a sweet old man God Bless Him❤
I agree!
Dr. Spencer Brown really does "love thy neighbor"
Totally Righteous Sunday And There Will Be Another Episode - New Zealand!!! San Fran!!!!! Outstanding - So Dang Stoked That You Have Made It To Taylor Status - Brilliant
Cheers
Tay Tay and Duzer are going on tour together!! hahaaha
New sub. What an amazing experience. How awesome to spend time with the family, they seemed so cool. Love your content, Joshua Tree rocks! No pun intended 😂
Welcome to my channel!!! Thanks so much for subscribing
Amazing video, wonderful landscape, really fascinating!
I have a question about it: Do you personally think that there are too many handguns in the US? In private possession, I mean?
Thanks in advance and regards from "old Europe"!
ruclips.net/video/-L8po7Unydo/видео.html My favorite version of Supertramps musical version of the long way home. You rock as always, the storytelling archesque stuff is vastly improving while still staying true. The guns sequence is subtly powerful and still respectful.
Very nice Video! Always! Saludos desde Argentina
Saludos, amigo!!
Haha, the 'Taylor Swift' of the biking community! For sure! Goes to show you Ryan the impact you're making on this community! Wish I would've acted a little more like a Swiftie when I met you on RAGBRAI this last summer...but had to contain my excitement I guess. lol Awesome content as always Duzer! .....and I'm loving your book....you just 'fixed' your broken pedal after crossing into MX! PS: my favorite NP is RMNP...but I haven't been any further West than that....yet.
haha, maybe you can go nuts this summer at RAGBRAI :) Thank so much for reading my book!!
What an awesome video, as always. I want to “accidentally” run into you too, just like Steven did. 🙂 Any plans to ride in Sweden any time soon?
Received, read and loved your book!! I highly recommend everyone reads this wonderful novel.
Glad you enjoy it! This means so much to me
You really are awesome Ry. Thanks man for being so darn cool. Inspirational
You rock! Thanks always for your kind words
Was that shooting area you camped at called Lytle Creek?
Fabulous Ryan, fabulous ✌.
Definition of Ryan Van Duzer (1 of many): TOTAL POSITIVITY.
Total bean lover #2 😂
Ryan's goe full Tremors in this episode. Stay on the rocks!!!
haha, I loved that movie!
Happy you didn’t get shot! Always interesting when the best America has to offer (folks like yourself), have to occasionally intersect with the worst America has to offer. Love that you always take the metaphorical high road. Stay safe.
My mom was definitely worried, I called her from that area and she was like "what in the world is going on behind you"
I was going the opposite direction but from the top of joshua tree to where you are was easily my favorite part of the trip. I am interested to see how you make out. It seemed all downhill for me which means I think it will be all uphill for you. On the fattie, I was able to really cruise down to where you are at the end of the video. When I went through it was the weekend and there were a lot more people shooting.
Meeting that family was so wholesome and awesome. This series has been just great so far!
Berdoo Canyon, BLM land, so you can shoot. Road was built in the 30s to the camp where the underground part of the MWD canal that takes Colorado River water to LA. Thousands of men were housed up there.
Shooting is fine, leaving insane amounts of trash everywhere is not.
@@duzer Agree 100%
good one Ryan! way to spread the stoke!
Always! So much to be stoked on out there
Good Morning & thanks for the video- attitude makes all the difference and growth comes from even the darkest places!
Yes it does!
Ryan you are my inspiration to get out there. Now "I'm dreaming about adventure and all the possibilities in the world." Thanks Ryan. sometimes I worry about humanity when shooting a refrigerator is entertainment.👀
There are so many possibilities!! I wish you all the best on your journey to get outside
You’re Taylor Swift famous!
Saying meeting you is comparable to meeting T Swift is pretty awesome
Haha! I’d much rather meet Tay Tay than me 😂😂
Thanks for another great start to a Sunday! I always seem to be cooking breakfast while getting ready for a ride or a day skinning through the woods when your videos are playing.
I really appreciate the vibe they bring to my day🤙
Love that! Have fun in the woods today
Wonderful videos and a great message! 🤜🤛
Seems exceptionally unsafe for a young lady to travel on a bike South of the border. I hope you gave her tips on how to stay safe.
Baja is actually very safe, I’d say it’s even safer than many parts of the US…not many people down there
Hey Ryan, they were partying in Slab City, you put in your ear plugs and all was well. Do the same at the gun range.
I've watched this video a dozen times and today is the first time I caught the Lionel Richie reference in the beginning! 😂
Love that guy
Have you ever considered an ecochallange?
your adventures are so inspiring, thanks for sharing
Glad you like them!
Good stuff as always amigo! Fav National Park...they all have their uniqueness no? But Joshua for stargazing...right up there!
Oh yes, amazing stars!
Hey Ryan, I am really enjoying your recent video about Southern California, slab City. Reminds me of when I lived in the desert outside of Albuquerque. But I've got to tell you I totally agree with you on the firearm, shooting issues. I am an avid supporter of the second amendment, and I think it's everybody's god-given right to keep and bear arms. But when I go shooting I don't leave anything behind. I pick up all my shells all my brass, the only thing that I leave behind is tire tracks and footprints. I totally agree I think it is so disrespectful for, firearm enthusiasts to leave there spent shells behind. Totally not cool man. Hey watch out for the rattlesnakes out there. Pedal on my friend!!
I appreciate this, thank you. I'm all for people having fun in the great outdoors however they want, but they have to respect nature and pickup after themselves. It's a MESS out there
Ugh I can't wait for the weather to break I need to spend some days on my bike !
I hear you! It’s freezing in Colorado
Great impressions! Thanks for the ride. Greeting André
Thanks a lot!
Great video Ryan! What tent do you use while on your trips? Thanks.
Nemo DragonFly
Been to slab city and met the same people there last year. They’re nice folk and I love the “alternative” setup.
Me too! Such an interesting place
Thanks for fueling the stoke for bike packing Ryan!
You know it!! I want more people to experience the magic of bike travel
Awesome video as always Ryan.
From our little piece of paradise at the bottom of the Pacific it was fantastic seeing Shay the NZer. 🚴🏾👍😀
Glad you enjoyed it! Meeting Shay was so fun…I hope to ride in NZ someday
That meeting with Stven and his family put a big smile on my face. Thx for bringing us along!!!
Me too, they're such sweet people
