I changed the shift cable on my 95 Sierra last night. All gears work but wont go back in park! The cable is a bit different on the 95 but there is a clip and what appears to be an adjuster. Back under there tonight to try this! Thanks so much for this informative video!!
Man this is the best video I’ve found! I had my transmission replaced by a mechanic shop they had told me the shift solenoid needed replacing so I did that on my own. Still the truck would only start in neutral . So I went on to just starting the truck in neutral for the last year. I thought it was about time to take it to a different mechanic. I gave it a go at adjusting the shift cable before I take it. AND THEN I found your video! Omg thank you so much so much help!
Yeah i found that as well i made the mistake of spraying rust check loosener on it the week before to loosen any part they may have become seized. But in the process of looking for my safety glasses i found a second pair.
Im having trouble with this on my 01 silverado ive change neutral safety switch and adjusted my shift cable and im still having alot of slop in my shifter and it starts in reverse and i can only drive 55 mph and its like its stuck in third gear idk im lost here
This did not help me, regardless of how I adjust the cable I cannot go into park. I replaced shift interlock solenoid and I still have no luck. Any ideas? Problem started after briefly manual shifting into 3rd to slow down a hill. Shortly after when I tried to put in park, just feels limp like it ain't locking in

Replaced mine in 02 gmc 5.3.. only goes up to Reverse, not into park, have to put in neutral to crank. Then back up for reverse, works down through all other, just won't back to park
Did you check the shifter lever mechanism? If you pull back the rubber boot on lever you can see that it has a spring..if that spring is not straight and or is broken or twisted, it might be the mechanishm.theyre not expensive on amazon.i have a 99 and the other day i was on a hill so when i went to take it out of park I noticed the lever moving but since i didnt put the handbrake i forced it into gear..bad idea. Wouldn't go into park anymore..im going to tackle this issue this week.best of luck.
The plastic pieces that keep the retainer clip on my Chevy Suburban and keep the retainer clip in place broke So sometimes I have to climb underneath it and physically shove it into park or it won't start I have everything I need to replace the entire shifter cable I just don't have a place to do it
Man i did this to my 2009 silverado and it worked like a charm.Best help video i have ever watched period.

Glad to hear this video helped!
thank you JP, worked great! one tip, safety glasses, lots of dirt and gunk waiting years for your eyes.
Yes that is a great tip! I recall being covered in road sand when pulling the connector apart.

Thank you. No chance of my 04 clip surviving though lol. Guess I'll buy the whole thing
Thanks! I been looking for a solution and I couldn’t find anything on RUclips. I’ll give it a try
Great job on the video, thanks! Informative. I'll try it asap.
Exelent video. Just did mine. It was explained perfectly
Nice S2K! Your that dude forreal! 👍🏾
Thankyou for sharing.
Man, thank you
Thank you!
I'm having this problem now with my 02
Same here
My 07 truck is stuck in park. Before this happened it was sometimes hard to put in park. I'm going to try this hope this is my problem
I need a video like this on my 2012 Chevy Sonic.
Nice s2000😁 I have one👌
Nice 👍
This only applies to 99 and newer for those who are curious
No sound?

My truck go into park and all gears but can't shift into manual mode so I'm guessing it's gonna be this aswell
Same here! did it fix it?
99-06 is considered the New Body Style
07 can be new body style or classic
Correct. The OBS or 98 and older have a different shift linkage adjustment and it's much simpler.
@@ismaelcarrillo3956 thanks for that clarification. See 07+ body style being adjusted in the vid.
engaging the e brake would be a hot tip to add to this before crawling under a vehicle that wont go into park... just using my lady brain lol
Interesting. Because as men we ALL know to engage the ebrake before doing any work under the truck. Also chock the wheels.
Good tip lady brain. I've got a feeling you have never tried to push a silverado in neutral on flat ground. Anyhow keep lady braining..
My Suburban won't go into park half the time but it's because the retainer clip came out of the shifter cable
Where is the TCM on a 09 GMC YUKON SLT 5.3?

My truck just did the same thing. What did you do
Cave man here
My truck won’t start now
Would really make a lot more sense to actually see the adjustment done instead of move this, push that....
