Thanks! I have been waiting for my local store to get a 212ce (November 2023 they said). Facebook gurus say “there is no difference in tone because when they use layered backs and sides the difference between sapele and rosewood goes out the window”. But even I your demo I can hear a difference. What are your thoughts?

Hi, thank you very much for your comment.
I think both guitars sound very good. Which one sounds better is more of a matter of taste.
I liked the 112ce better, also visually.
I have to say that I was disappointed with both guitar pickups.
Maybe the batteries were almost empty, but the signal was 15db quieter than other guitars.
I would be happy if you would subscribe to my channel. Thanks

I'm not sure what you are all hearing as these guitars are being demoed, but the 212ce is remarkably better sounding than the 112ce. I'm using ATH-M70x headphones out of a MOTU M6 interface at the moment, FWIW, and the 212ce is fuller and more complex; sounding more like a good acoustic guitar should sound. As to the guitar player's comment that he prefers the 112ce vs the 212ce, well, how can this be? The 112ce is very thin sounding in comparison.
Also, the guitar player's comment that he doesn't like the ES2 preamp, that it lacked volume in both guitars? Well, again, this doesn't make sense to me as this preamp has more than enough output power to drive a Direct Box or any number of acoustic guitar amps or preamps out there. Also, the pickup design itself, the EQ, and phase control options are considered to make this preamp one of the best out there.
All this aside, the demo was excellent, imo. If I was choosing between these two guitars, the 212ce is the one I would buy, hands down.

I think most people are just listening from their phone and the 112 doesn't seem as bright through just the phone

I completely agree. Pretty amazing considering the guitars are the exact same specs apart from back and sides. Even when the back and sides are solid (in this case neither of these guitars are solid), they only contribute 20% of the sound max. The 212 is the winner by a country mile… to my ears anyway!

The guitars are virtually identical. The materials are the same for the body according to the specs, the only difference is the neck material, and the general finish, which is just a little better. The cost difference between the guitars is 250euro, and the 212 includes a hard case that costs 200euro more than the soft case of the 112. So, basically there's 50euro real difference between guitars, which is almost all cosmetic.

Really appreciate this demo. I hear a somewhat “thinner” sound from the 112 than the 212. In reality, Bob Taylor himself has said that he can’t hear a truly significant difference when you’re comparing the tone of the veneers used on the layered models, but I’m nevertheless ascribing slightly more depth to the 212, placebo effect or otherwise. As a result of this and a significant sale, I’ve chosen the 212 over the 112 despite the fact that I have a preference for the black binding vs the white.

I shere your opinion, and I would go for 212ce plus, that one is even better

I tried them both, and to me the 212 sound wiped the floor with the 112.So i am the happy owner of a 212.

Definitely the 212ce. The 212ce plus (layered rosewood back and sides) was cosmetically upgraded for the original offering. I has black purfling and a nicer rosette. I have the 212ce plus on order. What is the beautiful song you play at the beginning? Tab please.

I'm a bit confuse on specs of 212ce. Is it really rosewood back and sides or is it walnut?
Because on Taylor website, it says walnut but on some reviews, it says rosewood. Can you confirm this, Sir?

It is confusing. It appears the 2023 model 212ce is Rosewood and the current 212ce Plus is Rosewood. But the current 212ce models are Walnut. The 2023 Rosewood models are available from Empire Music at a discounted price, cheaper than the Walnut.
      The 112ce is Sapele.

@@rob1261a Thank you so much for this info! I was about to get the 212ce plus then your comment came up. 😍
I'll go check with Empire Music for the 2023 model.

@@nesshin3200 Yeah, I just pulled the trigger on the Taylor 212ce with the Rosewood back and sides. I have the 112ce with the Sapele back an sides but I'm not to happy with the sound. the build quality is there though.

I'll have to try these out. I have a 412ce Rosewood but they use the V bracing where both of these still use X bracing which IMO have been giving more bottom end fullness, I have the last year of the X braced 814CE models and it is a cannon. also more bottom end than any of the new V braced guitars no matter what model. I bring it to the store to A/B it against things off the wall and nothing comes close to the tone this older X braced 814CE has from the new V braced not even builders editions!
