I had a boxer fracture two moths ago. Removed my splint one month ago and I was desperate as the range of motion was so poor. But I found this video and kept practice 2-3times a day, and now my finger range of motion has recovered fully, thank you so much!! And wanna encourage patients with the same fracture, don’t give up and believe one day your finger can return to normal🎉
@@Captain_Jackass-Jack yes, completely back to normal. Just keep doing the finger exercise during the recovery. Now I can have normal movement, but there’s still a sense of sore when bend over 90 degree. I believe the sore will fade eventually

I want to thank you so much for this! I fell and fractured my pinky in a failed attempt to stop myself from falling on my head on concrete. I have fibromyalgia and the pain has radiated through my arm and shoulder. Here it is August and I've been in a constant fibro flare since that day, mid May. I love these exercises, they have help me with stretching and gain mobility. I do have 1 question. "When contracting into a fist it feels like I need to "POP" my knuckle. It does cause a bit of pain. Should I press through the pain and pop my knuckles. I had 2 pins, the 1st from my wrist up into my Pinky finger knuckle, and my 2nd went intoo the ring finger knuckle.

@@chocowild383 I think it depends on many factors such as age, severity of the accident and related diseases. I was able to close my hand fully in a fist 2 weeks after the cast has been removed (6 weeks after the accident). However I do not suffer from any bone or related diseases and I’m 25 year old. Although it’s been 71 days after the accident and I cannot use my hand in its full potential- can’t lift heavy things, do push ups and etc. Broken metacarpal usually recovers within 3 months after the accident.Hope you get better soon! Stay motivated, our body is way smarter that we think. 💪

I did this injury 1 week ago and had a cast on. 1 week later I have a splint and a cast I can remove at times. I have no strength in my fingers or wrist and it is worrying. I hope it gets better as it is my dominant hand. I did the movements in this video and it helped a little but my fingers are so stiff and feel cramped.

These exercises have been a God send. I fell on ice and hurt my right hand. I could barely use it and the pain was pretty substantial. After 2 weeks with no relief I found this on RUclips. I’ve been doing these exercises religiously for 2 weeks and have gotten huge relief. I did get in to see my PA and he said that these exercises were great and to continue them. I did get a boxers splint but it’s pretty hard to get much done with one of those on. I used it mainly for night.
Thank you very much. I just had a metacarpal index surgery. I now have a metal inside my hand which tenchically makes me a cyborg although it still super stiff on the knuckle part I hope that these exercises would get me back my 100% motion. Thank you again 🥰
thank you. your video is giving me a range of how far i have to go before my hands can function properly again. i cant make a tight fist yet. its only been a day. but i can definitely feel slight change. my hand is too sensitive for the pencil exercises. but ill get there eventually.

I broke my 4th metacarpal on 06/29/23 and just started hand therapy, but my hand keeps swelling and heating up after therapy, and icing was a temp fix, but after doing the massaging and exercises you posted, my hand felt tingly like the nerves were waking up! I can make a fist! I'm still having trouble with the knuckle benders, that hurt pretty bad, but I will go slowly. AND I can type with both hands! Thank you thank you thank you!
Thanks alot, I broke the shaft of my 5th metacarpal bone 6 weeks ago, they inserted a rod inside the bone and it was removed after a month, had zero range of motion in the pinky finger. I got my complete range of motion within a week with this exercise and surprisingly I can make a full fist now
I also make a "spock hand" and do the same with my other fingers. And alternate back and forth. Then I also do upwards and downwards mobility using the spock hand. Making sure index+middle finger go down and stay separated from ring+pinky which stay up, and vice versa. I definitely experience more resistance in the affected hand (middle finger), so I'm going to try to slowly push into that over the next few months.

Everyones journey is different, stick with it. I see your comments 9 months old so you should have full range of motion by month 1 post cast however full bone sculpture takes 1.5 years. Pysio is super important until 90-100% former range of motion & strength is achieved

I'm watching these exercises in tears because they're so intelligently designed, and because my PTs have been so brutal to me. Not only do they want me to do my exercises **four times** a day with ten reps each, but they making me force PROM stretches and have no intelligent sequence to the exercises, with the result that I'm getting bad rebound stiffness, locking, reduced ROM, and swelling. And they keep asking me if I'm actually doing my exercises and telling me to do more!! I've been so angry, I've been fighting with the main guy, but I'm not the expert here. They've terrorized me by telling me that if I don't achieve full ROM within three months, the scar tissue and adhesions will become permanent!! "Physical terrorists" indeed!! I don't know what to do; it seems like everything I do or don't do makes my hand worse. 😢😢😢 I'm going to give my hand a break and then try your sequence. Thank you. 🙏
thank you for this video, I broke my metacarpals III and IV 5 weeks ago after I fell from the bike, did the surgery 4 weeks ago and I got 4 screws in my hand! My hand motion is almost 100% recovered after making the exercises I found in this video! I need to wait from now about one month so the bones will be healed completely
I also went over the bars 5 weeks ago and had 2 k-wires fitted, after breaking 4th and crushing and displacing 5th. Just had them removed and struggling with restricted movement. Will try these.
i tripped in my living room and landed on my right hand about 3-4 weeks ago now and broke metacarpals 3 and 4, then got covid so i couldn’t get it looked at for two weeks and it shifted so i got the surgery 3 days ago, had to get plates and screws on both metacarpals :/
These are all great workouts if you have trouble with #6 use larger pen or marker. Also thank you for making me take my time with this because I was trying to go right away all the info you gave helped me notice what the limitation were for my issue thank you.
i got a boxers fracture 3 days ago i was told my finger would heal bent and stay that way so that freaked me out i was also told it's a small fracture and was given buddy tape as that's all that was needed, the bend is whats worrying me now as 3 days ago it was less severe now it's almost all the way i wish you were warned more not to punch objects that this can so easily happen it's a nightmare that no one expects

Very well explained the second and the 6th really helped it’s been a couple months I haven’t been to pt and I broke it right under my knuckles so the hook fist and definitely the mp flexion with the pressure one for sure!!! My pinky is bent a little bc I didn’t know I was supposed to exercise it but thank you so much!!
@Virtual Hand Care Hi!! im exactly 3 weeks into my fracture at the base of my 5th metacarpal... doctor recommended me to see therapist so my fingers dont get too stiff... should i try them 3 weeks into my healing recovery process or wait another few weeks they told me my fracture based on the x-ray he saw will take me 3-5 weeks to heal n didnt think i needed a splint for my fracture... @Virtual Hand Care hope to heard back from you and i love the video and subscribed cause you looked like a great teacher explanation are so clear and informative... fyi i also have a mallet finger fracture (open fracture of distal phalanx of left index finger with mallet deformity) and currently have a dorsal extension splint on...it feels harder to do.
Wish I never had the cast on because I believe it has made it so hard now to use my left hand. If the cast hadn't been on for so long, I could have at least iced it and tried doing some of these exercises. Am wondering if it will ever get back to normal now...

I have the same issue. My pinky and ring finger are so stiff. I can’t grip a thing.
This advice is incredible, can do a full first after the massage and exercises after one go!

That gives me hope! I’m in the same boat. Just at 6 weeks now, still have two more weeks in a splint but I can take it off for exercises.

Very well explained the second and the 6th really helped it’s been a couple months I haven’t been to pt and I broke it right under my knuckles so the hook fist and definitely the mp flexion with the pressure one for sure!!! My pinky is bent a little bc I didn’t know I was supposed to exercise it but thank you so much!!

@Virtual Hand Care Hi!! im exactly 3 weeks into my fracture at the base of my 5th metacarpal... doctor recommended me to see therapist so my fingers dont get too stiff... should i try them 3 weeks into my healing recovery process or wait another few weeks they told me my fracture based on the x-ray he saw will take me 3-5 weeks to heal n didnt think i needed a splint for my fracture... @Virtual Hand Care hope to heard back from you and i love the video and subscribed cause you looked like a great teacher explanation are so clear and informative... fyi i also have a mallet finger fracture (open fracture of distal phalanx of left index finger with mallet deformity) and currently have a dorsal extension splint on...it feels harder to do.
Wish I never had the cast on because I believe it has made it so hard now to use my left hand.
If the cast hadn't been on for so long, I could have at least iced it and tried doing some of these exercises.
Am wondering if it will ever get back to normal now...
