And as for the following year, she won Roland Garros and reached the Wimbledon final which was an incredible achievement given her age and the competition. For me she’s the GOAT. And she retired because she’d achieved everything she’d set out to achieve, not just because of a relationship.

Williams is 40 and is still playing... Steffi retired at 29-30... that means that Williams has played 40(!) more Grand Slams in her career yet she has won just 1 of those 40 that she played... Lol...
@@mauroc4741 Like most Graf fans you are either 1) uninformed, 2) a liar, or 3) both. Serena has entered 78 grand slams. Steffi entered 56. That's 22, not 40. And no, she did not win 1 slam from 30-40 years old. She won 10....by far the most in the history of the game for anyone over 30. Go do the research. And Serena did it all without anyone getting stabbed in the process. Amazing accomplishment. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
@@jm7804 Steffi started playing at 13 or something like that... so she entered many Grand Slams when she was basically a kid... anyhow, 22 more Grand Slams is a huge number... And, what a coincidence that Williams won most of her Grand Slams between 30 and 40... just after Henin, Clijsters, Hingis, Davenport, Capriati, Mauresmo retired, ( and Venus who just became a joke and is almost a semiplayer since 2008 or something).
@@mauroc4741 Again, you are uninformed or lying. Can't decide which. Serena has 23 grand slam titles. 10 of which were earned in her 30s. How is 10 most of 23? That's ridiculous. Like most Graf fans you want to shave off her first years because she was too young, and shave off her later years because she was too old, too injured, too over-taken with grief because of her father, too depressed because of her crazy fans. Whatever. LOL. She had a 17 year professional career. No one forced her to drop out of middle school and turn pro. You own your professional record from the time you hit the first ball, to when you hit the last. Without Parche she has 12-15 GS titles. That's it. Even with Parche she only holds a handful of records. Its shocking how few she actually has.

Steffi always seemed to be in a hurry… I wonder if she felt sorry for Natalia or if she would have shown more mercy ten years later.
I'm just glad Zvereva managed to cope with this defeat. Even the greatest players have terrible defeats to cope and it's a hallmark of a great sportsman that they can manage that and find new self-confidence.
Apparently years later she couldn't remember that she'd won 6-0, 6-0. Suspect she was slightly embarrassed by it.
