    Would love to hear you cover a topic like, "What to do when you are an older person to get past the unconscious bias of ageism". I would love to have this cover the application and resume process. For instance, I am a 64 year-old Director level candidate who was in the $150k + salary range. I have had my curriculum vitae completely reworked and had a template developed for AI/HR screening tools giving me the ability to cut and paste only those things that are directly in the posted job description with the appropriate wording to match. This allows me to take a 7-page CV and form into a 2 page resume. Additionally, an executive consultant said that because of my age, I should only focus on my past 4 positions which represent the past 24 years of employment. The problem is that on the applications, it will not allow you to continue unless all required fields are completed one of which is the year in which you graduated college. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out age range. The other day, I had a video panel interview in which all 3 interviewers were peers. Also, one was the person retiring from the job while the other two were older workers as well. The interview went fabulous and they all three said that they would be recommending that the hiring VP move forward with me in the process. I even received an email from one the next day who said that she expected, based on their recommendation, that I would be hearing from the VP in the next couple of days. Two days later, I received a generic "thank you but we are moving forward with other candidates" letter. This is but one example of several. My thought, is that once the VP found out my approximate age, they realized that within the next 4 - 5 years, they would be have to replace all of the directors so they wanted someone younger. As you know, this is ageism which you can't prove but what are tactics you can do to address this both from the application/resume side as well as the interview. Mostly, I am just getting emails of "thanks for applying" when I am overqualified for the position and equally qualified for the position. Any tips would be welcomed.

      This is definitely an important topic!! I am adding it to my content lists.
      I'm not sure where you're located, but requiring graduation dates on applications is illegal in states like Colorado for this exact reason.

    I love your content Abby, thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge it is really invaluable. May I ask, when an interview includes an assessment, to what extent does this assessment count in the overall evaluation? Say, if one fails the assessment but succeeds in the interview, would we still have a chance to land the job? Thanks!

    • @LifeWorkBalance
      @LifeWorkBalance  Месяц назад +1

      I think it depends on the assessment.
      Sometimes there are skills assessments that must be passed in order to proceed in a job (like a typing test, computer program test, etc.). There are other assessments (like behavioral inventories, etc.) that are used in the interview process that SHOULD NOT blatantly inform hiring choices. In the case of you taking an assessment about work style or personality preferences, there should be no "failing" and your performance in an interview should inform the hiring choice.

    Thank you so much for the information you shared. I just made a recording and notice how helpful this is. I’m 62 and getting lots of generic answers. Either I’m overqualified (due to my extensive experience) or I don’t have all the specific skills needed in their specific organization. Would you like to offer advice for mature adults looking for a job? Thank you!!

      Thanks for watching and great question!
      When it comes to applying for job (regardless of age), I see many people use a generic resume that doesn't showcase how someone is a good fit for the specific position. This is one of the main reasons people don't get interviews!
      If you're getting interviews, but not moving forward, I would highly recommend reaching out for feedback. Here's a video on that topic: ruclips.net/video/sPL6yxMM4nI/видео.html
      I also work with many seasoned professionals struggling to get a job, so if you'd like to schedule a 1:1 session with me to discuss what might be going wrong, you can do so here: lwbalance.com/services/pricing/

    Thank you. What are your thoughts about interviewers who say they have no further questions after I give an answer?
    Is that an expectation that I did not give enough info and they don’t want to waste any more time? Curious what you think.

    What if I generaly hate how I look and sound on recordings and looking/hearing them reduces my self confidence and triggers more anxiety?

    • @LifeWorkBalance
      @LifeWorkBalance  3 месяца назад

      Shoot, I’m sorry if this happens to you! While this might not work for you, I’ve actually found that with recording yourself and watching it back sooner, and farther from your interview, can give you the tools and insights to improve your virtual appearance which then can help reduce stress and anxiety.
      For example, if I don’t like how I sound, I can be more intentional about my speech when I’m on camera, and I can find a tone or speed that works best for me and can see the improvements. I might not like the quality of my video, so I could buy a new webcam or change my lighting, or find clothing that is more flattering.
      While I know it’s easier said than done, try to see this as an opportunity to improve, which will help build your confidence!
      Good luck, you’ve got this!

    What about people who are neurodivergent in an interview?

    • @LifeWorkBalance
      @LifeWorkBalance  Месяц назад

      I'd like a little clarification about what you mean about neurodivergence in an interview - do you have a specific question about how it relates to recording oneself for interview preparation?
      With this particular video, anyone has the ability to record themselves practicing for an interview, regardless of neurodivergent status. I believe the data we get from watching ourselves practice an interview could help anyone and everyone prepare for an interview!
