@@byGiNeSiToX That's what I hope too, but I don't think it will happen. Too many good young F1 drivers now, which they don't have to pay as much as Fernando. The combination of this and the fact there are only a few good F1 teams means I don't see it happening for Alonso (as much as I would like to see it). Ferrari nor Mercedes will take the 'risk' of putting Alonso in their car against Ham or Vet as they all remember what happened between Alonso & Ham when they were at McLaren.

man this was the worst time for Fernando's retirement. I mean kimi , kubica and alonso fighting with somewhat equal cars would have been a great thing all around the seasson. it would have really given fans something to watch other than top tier team (ferrari, red bull and mercedes) even where clearly there's quite a big gap within those cars' capabilities.
But we still have ricciardo!

Alex MIL I don't know if Michael would be there. Alonso has always maintained his respect for Michael even after the "parkinggate incident" that cost Alonso pole in Monaco and the tactics Ferrari did. But Michael has seemed lukewarm towards him.

@@lou6977 No he's not. Lewis is not better. Alonso is the complete driver. Lewis has never won with an inferior car. But Alonso took that mediocre Ferrari and almost won the title 3x only for Ferrari to fail him when it mattered. He lost both titles in 2010 and 2012 because Ferrari made errors in the last race. Lewis wouldn't have done a better job on that Ferrari than Fernando despite the car being 4th fastest on the grid. The fact that Alonso came close to the title is a miracle and a true testament of his talent. In fact Andrew Benson reports that people within Ferrari think Alonso would have won this year's title if he had been in Ferrari instead of Vettel.
Here luck is not the culprit. Alonso arouses a lot of envy within the "maFia" and there are many tricks that the general public does not know against Alonso. Without these impediments, Alonso years ago had had more titles than Michael Schumacher.

I think somehow Fernando Alonso was the reason I bought a 1997 Renault Megane Coupe back in 2006. It was the time when he achieved to be world champion in F1. Not for one time but for two times in a row! I remember being me, a Spaniard in Germany, working on my graduation from highshool, and everytime I saw Fernando I saw a charismatic, galant well educated man of my very same age who gave me inspiration to believe that spaniards can be winners, inside and outside of Spain.
