I remember when Simmons was coming into the league, my friends were jumping up and down talking about how much of a "transcendental" talent he was. I didn't buy into the hype because he could never shoot in college. You can't be a franchise player and not be able to partake in the final minutes of a close game because you can't shoot, not even free throws. Unless you're such a dominant force in the paint the other team is forced to double and you put the ball in the hands of a reliable shooter on the team. He always struck me as someone who could do really well as a tertiary option on offense, but the media sold him as a flag bearing franchise player and he clearly ain't that!
I never liked Simmons either. Actually I been thinking about it - the NBA has gone full circle now - the age of the super athlete (started by MJ) is now over. The age of the super skilled big player is now here. Simmons was the prototypical modern NBA player - he is a relic from a now bygone era. The super athlete that can play some basketball..
What I found interesting about Simmons, especially last season, is that his FG% is still relatively the same, so basically, what changed in him was his aggression, one of the most important aspects to being a superstar that's hard to quantify. Eventually, the league figured out how to guard him and he didn't develop news skills to deal with that.
He's got about a 3ft range and was scared to even be a part of the offense in the few games he played. For being such a big guy he plays scared and gets pushed around and bullied by guys a foot shorter than him. Probably the most useless player in the game and his defense is very overrated.
This was the series that made me, as a Nets fan, root for Joel Embiid to fail. I was there for game 4 when Dudley and Simmons mixed it up and Jimmy Butler got tossed. Man, it's sad where Ben is at now.
I still don't understand how professional players can be bad at free throws. Its one of the few parts of the game that you can entirely prepare for on your own. Like, you get paid ridiculous amounts of money, just go to the gym for a couple weeks in the offseason and just shoot free throws for a few hours. Its wild to me that there is any part of the game that a high school player can be better at than a pro.
Dudley is an all time role player, a team guy, a contributor and winner. the man took whatever role on a team that was asked of him and worked hard in those roles. His mentorship and IQ helped every team he was on.
Right now there is no RUclips channel that I enjoy to view more than Secret Base. Everything in their videos are factual with a nice mix of satire. Keep up that great work!!
It's interesting how different Dudley and Ben are. Ben, when people thought he was good, always wanted to be the star, and always wanted everything to run through him. On the other hand, Dudley was fine coaching/mentoring from behind the scenes, contributing to his team without much recognition from the fans. One guy wants to live the superstar/rockstar life and doesn't really care about winning, while the other is just concerned with helping his team win in any way he can.
How do you know all this? When has Ben ever stated he wanted to run the offense? He was a forward at lsu, the 76ers made him pg. just spouting nonsense
@@justinholland6132 It's come out that that was a big reason Jimmy didn't stay with Phily. Ben was upset that the offense was running through Jimmy during the Raptors series and in the end Phily was going to stand behind and coddle their "young superstar" Ben Simmons over Jimmy Butler.
II think Dudleys best strength was not having an issue telling anyone how he saw things, Thats why guys who want to compete and be the best and improve loved him, young guys like gannis. Middleton, Booker, even Delo. Simmons still could be a top player in the league if he had someone like dudley as a teammate or even if he just didnt let his ego get him. Jared Dudley will be a head coach in the NBA.
It's only a matter of time. He's an intelligent player.
A continual thank you to everyone at Secret Base for making these awesome videos
I remember being a ben Simmons doubter from the start and I used to get slayed online for not thinking he was the next bron so I greatly enjoyed Dudley being the first person to call him out and expose him
"31 points. 9 assists. Willing to dunk when open." That was hilarious. 🤣
Jared Dudley is one of those players who understands basketball then most people on this planet.
Amen. May not have the greatest physical gifts, but is smart, tough and got the maximum out of his ability.
You are correct. That’s why he’s currently an NBA assistant coach.
To paraphrase a quote from Jurgen Klopp, he had the talent of a d leaguer but a mind of an NBA all-star.
asme could be said about all NBA players tf?
Well yea he’s an nba player goofy
God i miss when i was optimistic about Ben Simmons
No joke Ben Simmons is one of the most talented, naturally gifted players of all time.
@@jeffreymerlino4613 I actually agree but that’s a hot take
@@jeffreymerlino4613'm a Celtics fan who agreed with JD at the time of beef, and you are 100% right. If he actually put the time in to improve then he would've been incredible.
Given I have a Ben Simmons jersey that collected dust for the past couple years, this would be a huge understatement for me 😔
I’m very optimistic. He’s gonna make 60 million more dollars and retire at age 29. Living the dream tbh.
Real hoop fans remember Jared Dudley going 10/10 a full game and cooking the Atlanta Hawks when he was with the Bucks. HD to show Giannis how a real 🐐 scored the basketball
Every team needs Jared Dudley especially bc he’s okay with not playing but being around and available when needed
As a nets fan this was my favorite beef for a long period of time
I remember when Simmons was coming into the league, my friends were jumping up and down talking about how much of a "transcendental" talent he was.
@@BadwulfGrey-ef2zj he still ended up being a all star and all defensive team. Just going through some issues right now
@@BadwulfGrey-ef2zj if he were stronger mentally, he could've been a Giannis/Draymond hybrid
That stat line:
31 points, 9 assists, "willing to dunk when open"😅
Man, it's sad where Ben is at now.
rooting for a single person to fail is kinda sad tbh
He's the only dude in the comments that wasn't doing that haha@@leo_wentzel
This was very well put together. The narrative, the graphics, the storyline, the music. Bravo!
Love Clara, her snark makes all these videos awesome.
Ehhhhhhhh
shut up you clown pig
Also Ben only was at LSU for half a year, he dropped out right after the regular season
No!... He quit his way into the league and look who's talking now 😂
Clara is really good at these.
😂😂🤡🤡🤡
That 2019 Nets team was special. So much potential. All thrown away for drama and trauma for the organization lol.
No it didn’t their team has much more potential now. Mikal and cam are better than jarret and Dlo
@@justinholland6132 mikal is better than dlo but Jarrett Allen is better than cam
It's the one thing that practice can't really help. It's a head thing
Just got my first recommendation for your video today. Can't believe I've gone this long without this channel.
This is one of your best 'Beef' episodes.
Idk why but I love your beef segments the most. Might be your voice and humor
Watching Ben Simmons pass up open looks in the paint is like experiencing a work of art that you're just not able to comprehend.
It reminds me of sharknado. A masterpiece of a s..t show
10:20 I'm sorry, but this looks like a fan photoshopped his face onto a player's body. "No really, I'm in the NBA! here look!"
A supposed future "star" beefing with Jared Dudley was our first red flag.
Dudley is an all time role player, a team guy, a contributor and winner. the man took whatever role on a team that was asked of him and worked hard in those roles. His mentorship and IQ helped every team he was on.
I'm imagining all Ben's friends and family watching this video together in their secret group chat.
Simmons your modern day player. Couldn't care less about teammates. Plays when he feel like it. Sensitive to criticism. Won't work on weakness.
LSU fans tried to tell everyone about Ben😀😀
Right now there is no RUclips channel that I enjoy to view more than Secret Base. Everything in their videos are factual with a nice mix of satire. Keep up that great work!!
Calling Ben Simmons a young star in 2023 is wild but i get the writting lol
Ben Simmons talents with Jared Dudley mindset towards the game would give you a dominant player
As a Philly native, Jared Dudley over Ben
God I love the background music in these vids, y’all should drop a playlist
Jimmy Butler wasn't wrong either. He spoke up about him and they traded him. Look how that worked out!
Wow perfect narrator! The end gave me chills and put a smile on my face
Embids apology is another reason why I don’t think he will ever win. He acts tough but never has it when they need. Blames everyone else.
Kinda sad really esp playing a few older 2ks like 17-18-19 were he had insane potential and was good and worth a massive contract
If Aaron Gordon wins the chip this year against the heat we need a beef video between him and Dwayne wade cuz then Gordon absolutely got revenge from not winning the dunk contest
Wade isn't playing anymore. How would that work?
Dudley was SPOT ON. Both Embiid and Simmons look like clowns now lmao
Embiid is a reverse Jimmy Butler. Jimmy plays his best when the lights are the brightest, Embiid goes missing. Simmons just went missing full stop.
Saying embid look like a clown because the 76ers as a unit couldn't get out the second round is crazy the man just won the MVP averaging crazy numbers it's a regular season award but he still was picked as the best player of the league my guy stop the 🧢
@@dankcash007 voter fatigue. Jokic deserved better.
@@jdapaul1351 if you blame that on voter fatigue then same could be said in 21 and 22 for giannis
@@jdapaul1351 I agree to a certain degree but the second MVP jokic won should've went to embid and this year's MVP should've went to jokic but neither has anything to do with saying Embid looked like a clown this year after he just won MVP and he ball every year... Embid faults is his availability which is iffy because he refuse to stay in shape... He still planets better than Dudley and far from a clown on the court idk bout anything else
Awesome video. I didn't know that much about the beef, but it sure was nice to get the details about Dudley getting the last laugh. 😂😎
I remember I put a comment in on the JJ interview of Ben Simmons saying it's clear he's learnt NOTHING. And so many said JUST YOU WAIT, HE GONNA HAVE A GREAT YEAR! LOL single handedly helped scare off Kyrie and KD
Dudley has more finals appearances than Ben simmons😂😂
“Hot shot- ehhh hot passer” had me dying
If Ben could’ve kept anywhere near the production he had his first 2 years he would’ve been okay. Big issue is he didn’t want to adjust once the playoffs came and teams packed the paint. Now we don’t even know if he really likes playing. The wildest roller coaster of a young career 😂
waking up every weekend to a new sb vid is awesome
And now simmons is a net 😭
“The Future”
😂😂😂
The fact that I'm watching a Beef episode as i cook...a pound of ground beef is not lost on me
Didn’t Butler also criticize Simmons for the same things?
This is the coldest episode of beef ever. Dudley btw seems to be an excellent coach too
I could really listen to Clara talk baskeball all day.
cause your a clown pig
Lol oh could you???
this was so good. it's not over for Ben yet tho. he still has a chance to climb out of whatever hell he's in.
I knew Simmons was lazy from day one, I didn’t expect him to fall off THIS much tho
One of your guys best videos for a while
The problem with Ben is not that he can't shoot the ball, it is that he is scared to shoot the ball. I don't see how you can play basket"ball" if you are scared of said ball
He's scared of failing to put the ball through the net, but your point holds up.
I think the media hyped up Simmons, a lot of people saw what Dudley saw
Seeing film of Jimmy with the Sixers always hurts 😞
I’m always crossing my fingers in regards to a new SECRET BASE video. Can the host please be Claire? PLEASE! She happens to be brilliant.
Claire is simply the dopest!!!
Crazy to think, that it's possible Jared Dudley ends up with the better career than Ben Simmons. Might even end up with more career points.
Better career? Ben Simmons could never play again and he would easily have the better career.
@@darnarxz He'd have a better season and peak undeniably, but Dudley played 14 years in the league, shot basically 40% from deep for his career, won a ring, mentored some pretty talented young guys (d book, giannis, you might have heard of them), and immediately became a coach. give him some time and he can keep building his resume from the bench who knows. while simmons has played 5 seasons, made a grand total of 5 3pointers, appears to be closer to be playing in china than ever being a starter again, and has spent the last couple years doing his best to prove all his critics and detractors right. a couple solid years before being exposed and never improving his game means nothing in that context
@@DunlapZazoombazaffodil So now we assess someone's career by how many three pointers they make? Let's not mention that he was the number one overall pick, rookie of the year year, three time all star
All Star Appearances:
Simmons 3 Dudley 0
All NBA Team Appearances:
Simmons 1 Dudley 0
All NBA Defensive Team Appearances:
Simmons 2 Dudley 0
Simmons also has a Rookie of the Year award. The only thing Dudley has over Simmons is a ring. In what world imaginable could Dudley have a better career than Simmons?
@@Brian-Castillo18 Simmons has played under replacement level for a while. Wouldn't be shocking, if he's out of the league in a couple of years. And today, Dudley has a better career. Longer, more points, and (as you said) most importantly: A ring.
12:06 “willing to dunk when open” that’s cold 😂
This is the series were Embid showed his true character. He straight up abused Allen. Hes calmed down over the years but its hard to forget how much of a troll he was.
this is my favorite beef history so far. i've seen all of them. j duds in a rock solid bro.
"Don't worry Simmons, I don't hate you, it's just an objective fact that you're not good in the half-court" LMFAO imagine if he actually said that to him on court
I look forward to him being out of the league, with all due respect.
It doesn't seem like he wants to be there.
So let's just let it be and move on.
I'm honestly sick of hearing about him. Not talking about this piece which was very well done, just the general Sports landscape
Dudley was ahead of his time 😂
This lady sounds like Spongebob.
Before mentioning both of them would seem like a joke. No way, Jared could even live in Ben shadow. Now? It seem impossible for Ben to even stay near Jared’s shadow.
arguably the best analyst in the league VS the best off season player in the league lmaooo
What a narration and the Background score!!
Dudley in fact was absolutely right. He saw a bit of himself in Ben Simmons
The narrator's dramatic inflections in this video are really painful
I think Ben Simmons could go down as arguably the biggest NBA draft bust of all time. I remember hearing a lot of hype for the guy and now look at him. Jared Dudley ultimately won this beef and got a ring; something Simmons will never have.
The fact markelle fultz is now a better number one pick is hilarious
Anthony Bennett. Simmons sucked once he got paid.
Chill, dude was a multiple time all star, his career clears Zion's and tons of other #1 picks.
As a blazers fan, I WISH
Fastest and biggest fall off but he produced well for a few seasons so can’t really put him as biggest bust
