  • It seems CRAZY that GOLF Drivers COST as much as they do when this Driver performs just as good and is just as Forgiving as the BIG BRANDS.

    The last time I bought a driver, I bought the previous year's model (still new) at a great discount. Saved half of the cost of a current year model and was still able to choose shaft, head size etc.

      Great point, not always able as commonly when a manufacture changes models, they make the previous one discontinued. Some retailers have limited options that can be made up, but in general only the most current models have all the variations available.
      Very good source though for a lot of golfers to get a good deal on nearly new equipment 👍

    I had my heart set on the Mizuno STX 230 driver, but ended up buying the Cleveland Luncher XL (2023 model, brand new) for half the price of the Mizuno, and about 40% of a Taylormade. I had the shaft shortened by 2inches, and I love it! Yes it is noisy but I don't care. It has given me so much more confidence and significantly reduced my slice.

    I was having this debate at my club today, and i have to respectfully disagree with the headline, not the content. In 1984 i purchased my first new set of clubs, had played used clubs for 15 years previous, i was so proud of my Wilson’s, so i kept the receipt. 3-PW £225 1,3 and 5 woods £215, a small fortune at the time, i would suggest it makes the driver about £100. Early this year I was fitted for an AiSmoke max and paid £499, (nobody pays list price, do they?) inflation over the 40 years? Well economists say money doubles every 7 years, we have certainly had many years double digit inflation. So 5 times the price makes my driver cheap. The new Wilson driver is under £300. The expense of golf is relative to your personal circumstances and lifestyle choices. Personally i think modern equipment is great value, golf is my passion and i plan to enjoy it, that includes occasional nice new shiny clubs

    Many seem to believe it has to be expensive to be good🤔Plus with constant release of new models there must be an awful lot of unsold equipment somewhere which needs to be paid for? I picked up a ST230 for about 40% of retail price. Only been hit a few times😎.

      Hi Alberto, yes I can remember back in the day, some of the ear piercingly loud drivers that would make golfers look across to what on earth made that noise 🙂
      The Eleven Golf Driver, also with the discount code I managed to source was an absolute bargain. But as this video shows, there are more than a few examples where a golfer can get a really great product but doesn't have to spend ridiculous money 👍

    There's little difference between clubs from any major company. And getting last year's clubs is a fantastic option. Only reason I didn't do that with my driver is I like the look of the brand new model and was willing to pay extra to not wait until the end of the year to get it

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Месяц назад +1

      Also sometimes difficult to get the correct custom fitted specification when purchasing the previous years model. Really only the likes Ping commonly hand the previous years product in full custom available. Normally it's whatever retailers may have left in stock or whatever is available online.
      But agree that it's a great way to get quality at a reduced cost 👍🏻

    i think its a similar story as golf balls. the average golfers delivery changes swing to swing, more than offset any performances variances from the best to the average ball. My concern with a lower price point product would be in production quality and do all heads of the same model come out of the factory the same.

      @AskGolfNut  Месяц назад +1

      Hi Andy, wow where do I start with this one, I could go on for hours :-)
      Commonly with the margins of the clubs in construction, the tolerances are always extremely close, sometimes the level of what is allowable to be passed, some (not always lesser manufacturers) allow more variation than others. This happens with Balls and Clubs and Hats and Umbrellas and everything 👍

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Месяц назад

      I'm unsure how much the base price is for a carbon driver. I know that a very simple titanium driver is around £80 to £100, but the designs have been around for some time. With carbon headed drivers and the glueing rather than welding needed, I'm unsure how much more it costs 🤔👍🏻

      As long as it fits your swing then wonderful, for all reading, I would be very wary of buying from Ebay unless you know that the spec you are buying works for you.... Too many golfers buy, sell, buy, sell, buy, sell, hunting for something that works.
      But absolutely, the likes of Marketplace and Ebay can be a great source 👍

    Unfortunately, the current prices of the latest driver models have nothing to do with shaft upgrades. I bought my last new driver after a fitting about 8 years ago. Including a 200 € upgrade shaft at the time, it cost considerably less than the stock current drivers by the "big name brands". However, on demo days in the past two years, I saw, that the current tech of the heads is definitely an upgrade to a 8 year old driver. So this year, I bought a 2 year old model, when it was on sale, for under 300 €. It is undoubtedly more forgiving and longer than my old driver, but the good thing is that I can use my old upgrade shaft, which fits me well, since both drivers are from the same company. I might buy the current generation, when it is on sale early in 2026. But a "latest model" for the current prices, when they are new? Never.

    Logic…..the pro’s use them, therefore they must be the best. For this logic to work, you must forget, they get paid to play them. I refuse to pay these high prices. Right now you can get a Mizuno ST 230 Max, a great driver, for $299.00 USD. New Taylor Made Sim 2 Max for $249.00 USD. I’m still gaming this one.

    • @AskGolfNut

      There is defo something to say that golfers that can't pay the high prices, to look at options in the nearly new category. Sometimes the problem arises that it is near on impossible to get Custom Fitted which is very important especially for Driver. However there is a big money saving......🤔🤔👍

  • @sevesellors2831

    Not just drivers all golf clubs are expensive and as sales keep going clearly we’re all happy to pay. We now have drivers just short of £600.
    Why so expensive.? Well apart from design, manufacturing, you have R&D , marketing and all the players, ambassadors who get free equipment. I was told that a driver costs about $100 to make so plenty of profit. Now the only brands offering value are Cleveland and Wilson.
    When I priced up a full bag including wedges and putter in the case of Titleist £3000. I’m waiting for the PCP finance packages to be offered.
    The frightening aspect is even with the big brands they depreciate at a frightening rate, so like the car trade when will the bubble burst.?

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Месяц назад

      Many parts of that comment to speak about but to generalise........ I absolutely agree...... If everyone knew how much a Pro V1 costs to make, and then all the extra costs that are then attributed to that is why a dozen of the perceived best ball in golf costing so much 👍
