The most simple test is: Start your car when the engine is cold. You should hear a rattle noise close to the turbo and your RPM’s should be half RPM higher than your idle speed. After around 10 seconds (depends on the car) your RPM’s should go to the idle speed and the rattle noise is gone, that means that the gate is now closed and its functioning fine.
At the beggining of this video there is a quick clip of an exhaust and yiu can hear the waste gate actuater... It almost sounds like a grinding noise.... . Is that the sound of a bad actuater or is that what the waste gate actuater sounds like if it's functioning properly? I can hear this noise on my brand new Toyota tundra and these trucks have been having issues with the waste gate. Please help... Thank you.
@@mikehaworth7329 That video is just his intro i believe, it doesn't have anything to do with the rest. But even so, You can't hear the waste gate trough your exhaust. My advise would be to go and check it out at a mechanic.
What about stuck wastegate? Trying to resolve this issue I'm having on my Bi-Turbo. Where the RPM get stuck for a second or 2 and once it gets' unstuck (like back pressure release) and the vehicle jerks (lurches forward) so hard like I was kicked from behind. It only does this once in awhile when I'm WOT (wide open throttle).
@@mikehaworth7329 You can't hear the wastegate but you may able to hear the BOV (blow off valve) but if it's in a close loop you need to listen in to hear it. External BOV you can hear those all day long. sometimes you can listen when the Turbo is spooling it depends. On my vehicle I hear the Bi-Turbo spooling all day long and if I do pay attentions I can hear my BOV releasing (dumping back in). I would take the Tundra back to the dealer since it's still under warranty and have them check it out.
Woah this helped me a lot solved literally my problem I’ve been having and breaking my head over my cats in limp mode and I checked and mines an electrical waste gate actualtor which the harness plugs into is broken resulting in needing to be fixed pluged into a harness and yes I’m over boosting at 32psi but limited to driving my car to only rev up to 3.5k rpm my car is manual and I try brining the rpm’s up at times and the engine bogs “limp mode kicking in “ reducing the performance of my car. Now that I know that will be the cause to my struggles I’m going to order a wastegate actuator right now thank you 🙏 nice video very informative and clear thank you
could this cause a P2261 code? "turbo bypass valve-mechanical" in my Elantra sport. I keep getting this code, but it's very intermittent... usually it doesn't even get past "pending". What could it be?
If you have an electric wastegate could symptoms come and go I have a 2013 328i with the twin turbos, sometimes my car drives perfectly fine, and then out of no where switches into limp mode, autozones code reader said wastegate actuator
Mate my CLS did the same at cold start no strange noise, but when warm the noise sounded like the timing chain, so l was gutted, but turned out the chain like sound was the actuator malfunctioning that made the car judder when under load.. changed the actuator and all was good at a cost of £48 on EBay 👍👍👍 The car will do 153 mph
At the beggining of this video there is a short clip of the exhaust of a car and you can hear the wastegate actuator triggering. Is this the sound a bad wastegate actuator would make or is this the sound of a properly functioning wastegate actuator? Any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you for your all your content. you do a great job and keep up the good work.
Does anyone have an idea why ( sometimes) if you kick my CRD C300 down or try and make a drag start, it goes into kangaroo mode bucking or jurcking up the road. Ideas, could it be the waist gate ,actuator or some other other reason. Anyone else had this problem, or engineers know of this issue ?

My F30 was stuck in Limp mode due to this issue, I’m happy that this issue is finally going to be fixed
How did you fix it ?

Amazing work ❤️👍👍👍👍👍

I got the same results from autozone as well, but I went to oreiley they said it was a solenoid
Did you get code p1290?
Hi. Would you please tell me the size of the hex nut that control the adjustment??
Thank you in advance!!
My Mercedes CLS is in LIMP mode and no engine management light on. Do you think this may be a turbo actuator fault ? Thank you!

Im hearing the same noise on my car? Did you end up figuring it out?
thank you again.
