Hi Angie! Love this. I’m a 53 year old personal trainer and have been in this profession since my late 20’s. The absolute best thing a woman can do is lift weights, and lift heavy. Muscle mass is crucial for overall health as we age and definitely helps a lot with metabolism. It’s super rare for the average woman to get bulky from lifting heavy. I lift very heavy and I’m a very slim body type at 112 lbs and have been lifting for 30 years. I’ve never had a client get bulky and they were unhappy with their body. So to anyone reading this regardless of age…lift weights! Your future self will be so happy you did. And it’s never too late. My oldest client was 86 and independent and thriving. You’re so inspiring Angie. Thank you for all the ways you’ve changed my skin care. I’m so grateful ❤️

The reason our Healthcare doesn't is because the want sick people to be sick. If they helped people to get well and stay well, they wouldn't make any money. They don't heal people, they give them medications, and those medications continue to make them sick, to the point where they have to take other medications to counter what the other medications are causing issues with.

I'm 50, post menopausal. Angie is spot on. It takes consistency and work- dedication. If you care enough, you can do it. Small, gradual changes is key. Focus on health over weight loss. You will feel so much better you will be motivated to keep going! I've been fit my whole life but had to get next level disciplined to keep my weight down. The weight crept up over a few years without me noticing until I did. Then I slowly fixed up my diet and it works. Great info, Angie, as always!!

Now 55 and want...need to stop that madness of up and down. Want to get off some of my blood pressure meds too so really trying this time to not focus on number of pounds, etc but feel have been brainwashed for so many years with trying different "diets" and not thinking just in achieving a long term healthy lifestyle.

But this is not a life most of us lead. Many wish they could devote the time and funds to their upkeep in the way you have engineered. Sometimes, I wish you would weave in that concept more often.

Thank you for doing this video Angie! You look fabulous! I'm 67, 15 years post-menopausal. I take no HRT and take no drugs whatsoever but do take some supplements, food-based and mostly herbal. At about 10 years post I noticed big changes in where my weight was distributed. I'm a whole foods vegan-18 years and before that vegetarian for 20 years. I've also practiced fasting and intermittent fasting most of my adult life. I'm 5'5" 115 lbs. I've stayed the same weight pretty much my entire life but these last couple years gained 10-12 lbs. I hadn't been fasting or doing my beach walks or bodyboarding. I could not get that 10 lbs off. What made the big difference for me was moving again, specifically mountain biking! I ride at least 2 days a week. I push hard up hills which gets my cardiovascular system working, gets me sweating out toxins and is my HITT for the day. Riding was a game-changer for me...10 lbs dropped within a month without changing anything else! I am now starting to add in yoga, trampoline, weights, resistance, etc. so that I can up my riding skills. A side bar is the weight distribution, while not like when I was 50, shifted a bit as well. I'm not a sweet eater, no cookies, candy, ice cream, etc. but I do love my carbs. I still eat carbs just a tad less and balance them with a ton of dark leafy greens and fiber foods. I've also added a daily drink with aloe juice, beet powder, wheatgrass powder, pomegranate powder and fresh lemon juice...it's a bit gnarly but it gives me a boost of energy! Good sources of non-animal protein are: lentils, beans, hemp seeds, Spirulina, sprouted grains, soy milk, oats, chia seeds, broccoli, spinach, sweet potatoes, Brussel sprouts, seitan, tempeh, edamame, dark leafy greens and brown rice pasta. I make great quesadillas using Violife cheddar, refried black beans, brown rice, sautéed kale or spinach, on sprouted tortilla, after finished heating I then add 1/2 of an avocado and fresh mixed greens. : ) Please make sure to alert people about wild vs. farmed salmon...NEVER eat "farmed" salmon!! Thanks again Angie for your straight forward information!

Hi Angie, this is great material! As a 58 year old, I am on a macro based diet and I have restarted weight lifting back into my exercise routine. I try to push myself to lift as heavy as I can, which at this stage, does not require a gym. I was inspired by Train With Joan, a 75 year old influencer who lost a lot of weight slowly, over time, eating within her macros and lifting weights and cardio. I encourage you to give her a look. Since I have been using macros and lifting weights, my HDL went through the roof and my LDL, came down. I wasn’t really looking to improve those, as they were pretty much in line with normal. My slowly climbing TSH returned to low normal. And I lost 12 pounds, over a 7 month period. I like that you stress how this is a lifestyle issue. We need to make health a priority. Food and exercise are our medicine!

THANK YOU for being realistic and honest. It DOES take work. There is NO magic pill or diet. It is a lifestyle and constant connection between feeding and moving your body and feeding your soul.
That being said, at 57 and someone that grew up teaching years of step class (remember those!) and never having weight issues until menopause, I think it is SO important to have a serious talk with yourself on what is a priority for yourself. I love being on the thinner side; however, I sit at a desk for more than I'd like at work and between our mini-farm and all the business that self employment and life has, I've made peace with the reality that my waist and thighs are not going to be what they used to be. I have oatmeal and nuts and berries and greens most days; however, I'm not willing to give up an extra slice of pizza or that occasional grilled hot dog at camp or the chocolate cream pie I made for my son's 24th birthday tomorrow night. I'm ok with that. Those "pleasures" have more priority with me. I also don't have 1 million (woohoo!!) people critiquing my body all the time which has got to be a bit motivating. LOL!
You're a remarkable woman and I admire you and have followed you for years. Keep doing what you have been doing.

I use my recumbent exercise bike 1 hour a day (my social media time), do about 20-30 minutes of PT from people on RUclips a day, and finally, do 3 sets of weights for my arms 2 or 3 times a week. Although your point on higher protein is true. I’m also learning if you have a fatty liver , high protein is really working against you.
A lot of people don’t realize they have a fatty liver and must take care of this first before starting high protein diets. Your liver ( if fatty) cannot handle processing the protein and then it can cause you to become insulin resistant.

I love lifting weights. It is so good for our bones. As is resistance training, jumping rope, yoga (especially for balance), walking (so underrated), stepping or jumping on a box or stairs. Natural sunlight is also important for our well being. I like Fitness with PJ & Yoga with Adrienne on RUclips.

Great video Angie! I worked out from my late 20s to my late 40s. I've done it all. P90X, Circuit classes, spin, ever hear of Callanetics? Yep, done that too. When I hit perimenopause, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease. Great. My immune system is killing my thyroid gland, the seat of the metabolism. An endocrinologist advised me to "throw away my scales". I kind of lost my mojo. Then, just in the last 6 months, I was unemployed so I took a temp job delivering packages for UPS. Doing this work increased my physical activity, of course, but I wasn't huffing and puffing and not even sweating. The main thing it did was cut deeply into my eating window. I started Intermittent Fasting almost by accident. Whatever, I lost 30 pounds! Not all during that work. I lost the last 10 since that job ended. I got an Apple Watch and started walking 10k steps a day, also about a year ago I started doing a "half" strength workout, just to set the "intention" here. After a while I built some more complete workouts using the Men's Health Big Book of Exercises. I do a workout every other day and I walk almost every day. Near the end of the UPS work I was panicked. Do I join a Cross Fit Box? I mean, how am I losing this weight? Sure I injured myself, but guess what? A 4.6 mile walk can fix almost anything. My Peloton Tread arrives Monday!!!

I’m 39 I’m a semi truck driver and fitness trainer. I battled with PMDD for 27 years. I had a total hysterectomy, including my ovaries in October of 2021 which put me into surgical menopause. I gained 30 lbs! Lifting the fork, instead of the weights. I got the weight off by high intensity cardio and strength training , but I’m soooo hungry all the time so I keep battling with the belly fat. I was not eating enough, and then eating one meal a day, which was something way too light, and not enough protein. I just wanted to say I really appreciate your video. I think of them as part of my retirement plan and at 63 I am in the best shape of my life - it is totally worth it. BTW to get bulky muscles it takes hours a day so a few sessions a week are super healthy and toning as Angie said. Women have smaller shoulders so really important to keep that strong for posture and holding us upright 🥰 muscle also burns more calories. Eventually you feel great - keep going adding things to avoid old people injuries and enjoy retirement 💓

All great tips. I started intermittent fasting 2 years ago at 52 and it has helped A LOT. It isn’t as difficult as people make it seem and you won’t die if you miss one or two meals a day. I do an 18:6 five days a week and I try to do 2 OMAD days each week. It’s amazing how that will shift your weight once you start losing. I have been working from home for 2 months so my eating has not been so good during that time, but I go back to the office soon and will get back at it. DK, it's never too late. Angie says she only started skincare at 51 and states more than once during this video that changes were only gradual.
I understand what you mean about the information available being overwhelming. What works for me personally is this: (1) work on one thing until you find something that works for you, then move on to something else. You can always circle back and do more work on the first thing if you want to improve it further. (2) Find a small number of information sources that, after investigating, seem reliable to you and use those as a touchstone.
      I hope this helps.

At 55 you have a whole lifetime ahead of you and if you want to be healthier or lose weight, or be in better shape, or eat better or start exercising you can do it and it will make a difference! It can be overwhelming so it's best to start small with little incremental changes. The most important thing is to just start. Pick one thing and start doing it and stick with it until you start seeing a change. Then if you want you an add in more. xo ~a.

Yes, Angie...I have noticed and am saddened about the sudden slight rise in bad cholesterol since being post-menopausal. I never had an issue with cholesterol, so I was shocked when I was told my number was borderline. I actually had a suspicion that it was related to Menopause, but it seems like a lot of these doctors, namely GYN, do not make the connection. I took it upon myself with my own research to find out that Menopause was the culprit in my case, and I started really tweaking an already healthy diet and lifestyle to ensure that my LDL and HDL numbers stayed good. It really is frustrating and disheartening that doctors do NOT seem to care regarding menopause and ensuring that their female patients are getting thru it as healthy, comfortable, and informed as possible.....Actually, I believe a lot of these doctors are Not informed (even the female ones who r probably at that stage in life themselves) and many are Not interested in being informed for they make no money from the insurance company by having menopause and/or HRT discussions with the patient. I too am plant based/vegan (for 8 years) and 53 y/o, so when I hear so many peri- or menopausal women discuss eating more animal protein and omega-3, and often times CUTTING the carbs (grains, beans, nightshades, etc) I get stumped on what to do. Peaches, do you eat a lot of soy? I have never been afraid of soy like some women, so tofu, tempeh and edamame have been my go-to for high vegan protein. I don't know how much more of it I can eat! 😃 I also like the processed "meats" (Impossible, Beyond, Lightlife, gardein) but certainly in strict moderation. And of course I know plants have protein, but my stomach is only tolerant of some leafy veggies, nuts and beans and only sometimes. I would just be curious what is working for you to stay slim. Thanks!

Angela I do eat Tofu ( not a lot) and I eat pretty much everything you talk about here. I love veggies and I have no issues. I don’t see any reason to eat an animal. Just my opinion. I go with what Mr Rogers says, we don’t eat anything with a mother😉
I feel great most days and if I don’t I realize I need to eat something or drink some water. I do have a video on what I eat in a day.

My expertise is skin not food, but why do we need animal products? We have vegetables and fruits and lentils and beans and nuts and soy protein, so many other healthy resources for our bodies.

Angie I have been struggling for two years with the extra belly fluff and on my legs because of menopause even though I ate a good balanced healthy diet. I have finally figured it out. I just did a 21 day fast and ate only vegetables, no starches, no processed food, no sugar. I felt so great and when my blood tests
Came back the numbers were fantastic. Now I eat 80-90 percent veggies similar to your list of “good foods” and only non sugar treats. The weight is coming off and it’s so easy. I feel terrific for the first time in a while. I work out five days a week and incorporate lots of movement throughout my day.

Like with everything, the older we get, the more maintenance we require. A healthy diet with portion control and minimal sugar intake, an active lifestyle including weight lifting and reducing stress where possible will all contribute to optimal body performance, a happier outlook, and a longer, quality-rich life! It's about mitigating the wear and tear that our older bodies don't forgive or repair as easily as in our youth. Small steps and be kind to yourself. Thank you, Angie!

Angie, Your timing could not be better. I have been through the wringer with a back injury several years ago (long back story - no pun intended). Essentially a proper PT who can provide me with the instruction and go-home plan for a proper training routine to recondition my body after they provide the one-on-one training and trigger point & myofascial work to get my issues corrected, get me strong again and out of constant pain. Most recently a life-threatening illness caused a 33 lb rapid weight loss including any muscle I had left after being sedentary due to remote work and not exercising (a lot of walking) since the pandemic started. After proper care and treatment and living a bit of a nightmare, I am finally feeling better and am starting to expand my food beyond chicken, rice, and black beans (was bone broth first and protein shakes) - slowly since my gut is still healing. I was given the green light to work out and could not click on this video fast enough! Since I eliminated almost everything from my diet out of necessity, I am noticing what foods are causing issues (inflammation, water retention, muscle cramping, increased joint pain (sugar and wheat and processed anything)). The cleaner I eat, the happier my body is. Looking forward to adding in some cod, avocado, and other foods and I love overnight old-fashioned oats soaked in almond milk and a little greek yogurt and blueberries. I am 52, turning 53 in six months. I am glad you mentioned you can subscribe to Peloton workouts and I will look into it since I would need to pay for them via my cable company anyway or find something on Prime - nice to have options. I will check out your blog for recipes - the salmon salad looked amazing! Love your workout outfit! Feeling so optimistic now - Lynn

There’s where the problem lies - eating bread. Unfortunately bread is not our friend and as we get older our gut cannot handle it due to the gluten, along with it being a sugar/carbohydrate. It causes weight gain, flatulence and bloat. Cut out the grains, you’ll lose weight and have a flat tummy. I make a keto bread, it’s delicious, grain free and super low carb and v tasty and filling; there’s plenty of recipes on YT. @Mimi N - You may have cut eggs (pastured, organic) from your diet, along with 'dairy'?... if so, you are missing out on one of the most bioavailable, nutritious, and protein rich food sources we can eat. Some are, unfortunately, allergic to eggs, however.
But, if you are getting a good amount of quality protein in your diet & lifting weights, that combo should be working for you.
If you are finishing your last meal too near your bedtime, that will def. affect your adipose profile.
Try starting your meals early a.m. - restricting your 'feeding window' to 6-8 hours/day - make your meals count for protein consumption(!) -
      (cut out btw. meal snacks).
Finish your last meal of the day fairly early eve. & @least 2-3 hrs b/4 bedtime... (8.p.m is a bit 'late' but will work, unless you turn in for the night 'early).
And an overnight 'fasting window' of something like 12-16 hours will also help, both with an anti-aging lifestyle and keeping the belly fat off. Also, hydrate with water every day like mad!
But, overall, increasing your quality protein, increasing your activity level, lifting weights, and quality sleep...all key in keeping you healthy.
      Hope this helps😉

Thank you for this. Knowing that you are on HRT helps me to understand what happened. I had been working out 5/6 days weekly and watching my diet. Still, I ballooned and weigh 30 pounds more than I used to, along with balding and no energy. I eventually gave up trying because I became so hyperhydrotic that I couldn’t avoid people asking me if I was okay. When I went to my doctor, he just laughed at me saying that women get fat and lose their hair. He also insisted that I was always hyperhydrotic because it was “genetic.” He might insist, but I know that I haven’t been like this until recently because I have lived with my body my entire life.
The next two doctors that I consulted said the same thing to me and made me feel guilty and horrible about worrying about my bald patches. My hair had always been extremely thick until two years ago. I’ve been gaining weight, feeling almost like I can’t get out of bed, sweating so much that I no longer go out in public.
I am not able to live life anymore. I scarcely eat anything, and very little or no processed foods. I don’t like and never had liked sweets. My diet is almost exactly like yours.
Now I need to find a doctor who will allow me to take HRT.
