Car is an S11 Impreza, built by Prodrive and used by Chris Atkinson in the World Rally Championship in 2005. Currently being rallied in private hands in the UK
the noise is an anti lag system which as the name suggests prevents turbo lag. basicly unburnt fuel is dumped into the manifold to keep the pressure built up.

MisterNBG, the beautiful thing about rally cars is the amount of low end torque they create. This car is probably closer to 350 horsepower, but the low rpm range turbo allows it to produce obscene amounts of torque, like 500+ ft/lbs
ALS doesn't affect valve timing, it retards ign timing and adds more fuel while lifting off the throttle. The low timing results in high exhaust gas temps, which causes fuel in the exhaust the expand rapidly spooling the turbo when off the throttle. It's pretty rough on the turbo though, the popping you hear is from gases igniting at the turbine.
@sarahjae8 i suppose but that would also depend on the grip of the rear tires, if the rear suspension is softer this also creats more body roll while the stiffer front guids it through the turn, if the ass end rolls the weight shifts and snaps the tires loose and u go into a slight drift just enough to whip around tight corners like the ones in the vid, if u accelerate at the right time its the fastest way, because there isnt really much of an apex..

I saw Stephane Sarrazin, but I didn't see this white car in the video. Petter Solberg's moves were awesome though, like that braking powerslide through the dirt right near the fans, almost completely horizontal. I can't believe how much Loeb owns though, wow.
That torque and turbo restrictor size is for the current 1600cc WR Cars. The 2 litre WRC cars had a 34mm restrictor which still only produced aound 300bhp but the torque figures were anything 550nm to 650nm. Hence why a 2litre WRC will do 0-60 in 3 seconds.
lol, i was told when getting insured for my STI that it was classed with the Corvette, Viper, and new GT-R. (for insurance companies) so all you young kids wanting an STI you'll need the 35k + about 3k per year you own it. not including maintenance and mods
I have a car like this I race once a year at wellsboro, pa and I normally place on the podium. And RALLY is no fucking joke. Requires insanely fast reaction time and you need to be fearless with the throttle.
they're left hand drives so they get really close to banks nd hedges on the left side, exhaust is on other side to stop if catching the bank if they loose control, if it hits the othe right side they unlucky but there is less chance on that side, its on the left for right hand drives :)

The maximum amount of horsepower (mostly around 300) is available from 3000rpm, all the way up to 7500rpm, with a peak at around 5500rpm. An air restrictor is required to meet WRC regelations, wich limits the air inlet to 33mm, wich is enough for around 400nm. Source: mostly official FIA regulations (from the FIA website) and Wikipedia

@sashaman1234 yea Loeb is one of the best driver world wide, no doubt. The white car you wont see racing because is a test car, 99% of it is put in to the race car. In other words the only deference between them is the color and the stickers. Take care pal glad you are enjoying rally, it even better when you see it live.
no it has a low gear ratio..usually they have this on a course where there are not many long straights which require high speed.i.e a course like this where there are hairpins..this way when exiting a corner he has quick acceleration and lots of torque
about the als the engine's firing when the vales are still partially open? its to keep that turbo spooling as fast as possible so when you step on it you'll get more boost?
I'm not new to cars, but what is the roof scoop for? Does it really feed into a CAI? Would the air temperature really be much colder from the roof? It seems like the extra piping would cancel out any possible benefit. Can someone explain?
@Mitchumthegreat Mitchum I'm pretty sure that car's more than a body kit, so I wouldn't even start comparing it to a stock 04. I love 04's btw, but yea it looks like a body car, probably for added aerodynamics.

What is wrong with liking most types of auto racing? I am surprised by all the one kind of car racing people. Racing tortoises might be fun if that was all we had.
I still can't believe that was only off the clutch, no launch control or antilag system. Too bad these cars wern't very competitive in the WRC. Awesome cars though!!
@GTtuner56 I hope you know subaru has like 2 cars in the 2010 WRC and ford has about 10... Subaru announced it wasn't focusing on rally this time around...
@ieatyooz Hows that when Loeb in c4 is frist 5 years in a row 2nd is miko hirvonen with ford. In others rally competitions mitsubishi lancer evo 9 own's all,and now new s2000 cars.
@theoriginalca7erham It is stock and I have driven in snow and gravel and I have driven it hard :) I would like to lower it for summer months but most of the cars that are lowered do not handle as well as the car in this video and I want to keep my turning performance even while lowered. Hence was my question :)

Did you know that they actually built the batmobile for the movie? They put a V8 6.2 Liter Turbocharged engine in that thing. Pretty damn cool.
