Excellent review, best comparison of the most LEP lights I've seen.
Nextorch look like they are using a different module with a larger emitting surface to get more lumens, but it would most likely need a larger lens to focus as tight as the other full size LEP's. However this makes it more practical as a thrower people will actually use. It performs like a GT size thrower without the spill that fits in your pocket. What's even more impressive is the tint, which looked equal to a cool white LED, unlike the green or yellow with most LEP's. So are LED throwers obsolete now?
I was also impressed with the Thor 3 which had similar nice tint with a tight beam like the FW1 and W4, but it lacked the lumens and has failed to throw as far in the 1 lumen review. The Neal's gadgets LEP is a great budget option with nice tint too.
My experience with LEP's tells me there is a lot of variance in performance between individual examples of the same light. Also the mirror type seem to get brighter over time with prolonged use. This has been the case with my W30 which I've had a few years. I also have a Maxtoch L3K which uses the shine through type emitter. It out throws the W30 by a hair due to a tighter beam, but has a greenish tint, like the W30 had when new, so I don't know if it will also improve over time. Currently I'm tempted by a FW1vn in titanium! for the same $ as the Nextorch as I only use my LEP's to play light sabers anyway.

    PROS:
    - The size is perfect.
    - Good design.
    - The tail switch is perfect, with momentary on/off and click.
    CONS:
    - More power, I wish it was more powerful with at least 100.000 candela or more, but maybe next time?
    - Beam too narrow (due to the laser, and diameter).
    - The battery doesn't charge with every USB-C charger, just with some of them.
    - The tail switch lacks of grippy texture.

Hi Matt, have been watching your vids for some time, this another honest review and explanation of good and decent flash lights out there. Could you explain lenses, how they focus and concentrate light. Also you mention phosphor, what is that? Candella, lumens, what's that, what's the difference? If you have already explained this, in which video/s are those explanations? Thanks for all your well done and honest videos!

    • @thundermallow
      @thundermallow 2 года назад +3

to my knowledge lumens are a measurement of total light output from a flashlight, candela is a measurement of intensity, together you can have an idea of how floody the beam is and how far the light will throw. if use the equation candela/lumen="flood" you find that the higher the number "flood" the farther the light will throw, the lower the number the more the light will flood.
phosphor is an element that glows when you put energy into it (by laser for example) but I'm not exactly sure what it does differently to LED's for flashlights.
About the lenses, reflectors, and optics, I'm not sure about how they differ either and I think is would make a good video.
hope this helps, have a good day!

Aside from the 'cool factor' what good are these? Olight last year developed a weapon light that uses the technology but at 100 yards or more it's hit or miss whether the beam actually lights the target and laughably there's no way to 'zero' the light so that it illuminates the target. With almost no spill one appears to be reliant on reflected light off the beam's point of contact. What happens if the beam is accidentally aimed at a highly reflective surface that reflects into the user's eyes?
Don't get me wrong - as a kid I would tape a flashlight to the end of a small zoom telescope and on foggy nights marvel at what appeared to be a white laser beam. But aside from the gee whiz factor what's the point? Am I missing something?

Hey Matt, great video! I have the Mateminco FW1 and can get the low/high/strobe, but the instructions indicate a turbo. I can't seem to get the turbo? Any advice on that?

Several times I might have bought from Neal's but you have to fill out a whole page before you could get to shipping charges. You already know about approximate taxes. Paying 245 for a light then knowing it'll cost up to an extra 50 I just don't proceed. I'd like the Ant-Man but I'll be damned if I'll go through all that to find a 20 dollar charge for shipping 4 ounces USPS worth 5 dollars. The ordering is weird. I suggest free shipping on all lights with that built in. My advice. Great review though. Maybe it's on Amazon for us members where it's hassle free.

I’m sure that is a probably a hard thing for you to sum up because of your huge range you’ve reviewed. Many thanks 🙏🏻

Not your usual fare, but since LEPs are the light du jour so to speak, Nebo has a new one on the markey that looks interesting. Luxtreme is the model i think luxtreme100. Would like to hear your thoughts on it.
