All it takes is one listen and you can tell this is something different. This album is bluegrass, jazz, vaudeville, 1940s cab calloway/ wanda jackson/ 60s country. Imagine if Post Malone, who has dabbled in country music and has been shown wearing his porter wagoner rhinestone and wagon wheel vintage 60s suits, ever collaborated with sierra. They would take over and reinvent modern country music
Holy shit this album is going to be insane! This song is so perfect! The first version is great (as is the video), but this is in a completely different league. It is so visual and almost cinematic, like a vintage country cowgirl Portishead meets Madeleine Peyroux. Your style is so hard to pin down because there's really nobody else who comes close to sounding like you. I can't wait for August 20th. PS Please tell me this will have a vinyl release as well. I can't imagine listening to your first album any other way.
Madeleine Peyroux came to mind to me too while listening to this. Which caught me completely by surprise because what I've heard of her music so far was in the old time/country style, which I like btw. This song is great and shows that she has a much wider range than I knew. I really like her voice and her singing style. Will definitely be looking into more of her music.
I keep coming back to this video and each time am more impressed. You should do a whole cd of Jazz/Showtunes/Gypsy music. While I genuinely love the country/bluegrass music you do, and thank you for bringing new life to it, I believe these Jazz/Showtunes/Gypsy songs really showcase your range, vocal chops, power and the breadth of your talent (which still appears to be boundless) Simply love you Sierra. What a truly beautiful gift you are.
Sierra is a special person imo. I hope she is able to retain her natural uniqueness and not get sucked into commercialisation - of course she must succeed but I personally love her live performances and a kind of rawness which may have come from her busking background.
