Rest In Peace Pat Carroll, who voiced Ursula and sang Poor Unfortunate Souls. Died last year at 95
RIP Best evil laugh of any Disney villan
@@rudymora4179 Ed the hyena was pretty solid.....
Ursula is and always will be an iconic Disney villain. Scared the crap out of me when I was young. Didn't know the woman who voiced her passed away. Sad news.
She loved playing Ursula and we loved that she played it so well
I had the pleasure of meeting her once some years ago. She was an absolute sweetheart.
This movie was the first of 4 movies that truly saved & changed Disney forever. The Little Mermaid first, then Beauty & the Beast, next was Aladdin, and finishing it off was The Lion King. Those 4 movies in the late 80s and early 90s are some of the most memorable movies Disney ever made period. And all in a span of about 5 years.
Absolutely. The company had bills to pay and bills were indeed paid.
The first four movies of the Disney Renaissance. Which ended in 1999 with Tarzan.
Yes, that's true story. By mid 80's Disney was near bankruptcy. If it wasn't for the success on The Little Mermaid and following three animated movies Disney would've died.
The Renaissance era is the best era.
We don't actually know how much time passed after Ariel is reunited with Eric at 16 & their marriage. There is a cut right to it, but this is how movie scenes generally work, leaving it ambigious what happened in the meantime. Actually, the "typical" Disney trope to "marry a guy after only 1 day" never truly existed. Snow White is never even seen marrying the prince (they just ride into the sunset). Same with Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), she just dances at the end. And Cinderella can be given the same doubt as Ariel, as the cut between the glass slipper scene & her wedding also never states when exactly she married. This stereotype is often laughed at & attributed to the classic Disney princesses, while it never accurately existed. 🤷♂️
Disney was going through an aimless depressed funk for years, but Little Mermaid brought Disney back to life! They made a string of great movies after Little Mermaid.
Yes, soon afterwards Beauty & the Beast was released as well as Aladdin and the Lion King. These 4 movies vaulted Disney to the top in the early to mid 90s
Love these two comments. Oh, to go back to my childhood and remember the good old days. And now to think with Disney has become... Breaks my heart.
It was a pretty great time for me. I think I was 7 when this came out. Then those after. All the talent shows at school were all Disney songs. They've always kept me open minded to musicals as I grew up. Then later some opera. All started with living Disney movies early on.
'The Little Mermaid' is the last animated Disney feature to be inked and painted by hand. Perhaps they wanted to end their hand-drawn animation on a high note to some degree.
This movie launched what historians now often call the Disney animation renaissance. For me, what really drove the resurgence was Disney's embrace of the feel of more modern musical theater. Over the next several years -- through Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladdin (1992), and The Lion King (1994) -- the animation techniques did evolve (especially to incorporate common live-action film effects like the rack focus), but the modern musical theater vibes had been present ever since The Little Mermaid (1989).
R.I.P. Samuel E. Wright thank you for providing us the voice for Sebastian
Also RIP Rene Auborjeouis. For being the voice of the cook.
Seeing as though you’re going through more of the classic Disney animated films, one you should definitely watch one day is Oliver & Company, one of the forgotten & most underrated films they made. It’s from 1988, the year before Little Mermaid & it’s a real gem.
Songwriting team Ashman & Menken were crucial to the success of this film. Their broadway musical sensibilities injected new energy into the Disney sound.
"Little Shop of Horrors" was one of their broadway successes, that was made into a film- you MUST react to that one!
In the early concepts of the film, Ursula was supposed to be King Triton's sister, and this Ariel's aunt!
The funniest part about this is that Ursula is like: ‘Yeh, you can TOTALLY seduce a somebody without a voice 😏’
(One day later) ‘OH SHIT! She can actually do it!! 😨’
In case you missed it why Triton is so hard on Ariel with the human world is because her mother was killed by humans therefore that’s why he’s so protective of Ariel. But that’s in another movie
I watched this movie uncounted times thanks to it being one of the only movies my grandparents had on VHS
High Five VHS brother! Never surrender to the evil Betamax!
Ursulas voice actress Pat Carell sadly died last year wir 95! Ariels Voice Jodi Benson just published her book Part of my World.
This movie saved Disney from going into bankruptcy. This was a last ditch effort to save the company
Wow that’s crazy I never knew that sorry wasn’t 90’s kid.
The Little Mermaid was the first of 4 movies Disney made that truly saved them. This, then Beauty & the Beast, Aladdin, and the Lion King brought Disney back to life dramatically
The little Mermaid saved Disney, and The Woke Mermaid will finally kill Disney. Period
@@salvadormendoza8535 will see what happens
@@jarekvelchek802 I agree with his sentiment. A very large population of people do NOT like the woke, PC narratives and ideologies. Hadn’t Disney learned any of that recently?🤔I mean they lost BILLIONS in the last couple of years for being woke. And this film won’t help them. More lost💵💰for Disney coming up
When I watched this movie for the first time, I was like no way the little mermaid’s name is Ariel too. My name is Ariele but as you can see the spelling is different. Other than the spelling, I cherish this movie a lot.
R.I.P. to Pat Caroll, you gave us the best Ursula and Morgana
I miss her
She was one fortunate soul
A very fun movie. So well animated and written. The music is iconic now. Sebastian is the best. He's Hilarious and Ursula is a fantastic villain. I think its a bad idea but
It's not suprising she got married that young based on the era the story takes place in.
The Little Mermaid" (Danish: Den lille havfrue) is a fairy tale written by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. The original story follows the journey of a young mermaid who is willing to give up her life in the sea as a mermaid to gain a human soul. The tale was first published in 1837 as part of a collection of fairy tales for children.
We really don't know what time frame there was between their scene on the beach together and the wedding though.
Such a golden age of Disney animation but also clever funny storytelling with it and songs that we all still, love! Letting those things and only those things take the driving seat rather than making them fit just to suit todays culture wars...how a great authentic time was back then. Whoever lived through this era and especially was young during the years of Little Mermaid Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin Hercules...how lucky and a privilege it was!!
I wish I was born in the 90’s but I wasn’t I was born in the early 2000’s but I owned Aladdin on DVD with Peter Pan, and Robin Hood.
The scene when Ariel brings Eric to the beach was recreated in 2017 in Wonder Woman. 🧜♀️
6:02 "Oh, she has a hidden place full of treasures." When I see WALL-E's collection (and spork) in his home, I'm usually reminded of Ariel and her grotto.
Sebastian is the coolest Disney sidekick ever ..
Wow. Never expected anyone to react to this. This is from my childhood. I was 1 when it was released. Beauty and The Beast, Lady and the Tramp, and Aladdin are also great Disney movies from my childhood.
Don't forget Pocahontas.
All of those , yes , but I also had some non-Disney gems, namely; The Land Before Time
And for some reason, my sister and I loved The Swan Princess as kids.
There have been other reactors who have watched this…
My favorite song in this movie is Part of your World and this movie was released after I was born in 1988. I had fun watching this Disney iconic movie brings back memories. Great reaction, Lia and Michelle!❤❤
Hands down the best disney movie. I love little mermaid so much!
The movie that fully revived Disney. Such a classic.
You can start to see Disney's creepy past showing when you realize 16-year old Ariel was the *_oldest_* "Disney princess" they created at the time in 1989.
No she wasn’t Cinderella was she’s 19
Calm down. Disney only adapted the characters based on the original, old faerie tales, which were also supposed to be very young. Standards of what constituted a legal adult were very different 100 and more years old.
Fun fact: in the musical King Triton and Ursula are actually brother and sister
Live action version cannot follow this masterpiece.
Right but I will always check out Live Action movies but they are always hit or miss.
Especially woke ones, where the essence of the original takes a back seat to diversity for diversity sake.
@@OtakuMainerIts woke bcuz of a diverse cast? u sound foolish
13:30 "It's better down where it's wetter." Michelle, while not wrong, let's remember this is a children's movie lol. The ladies also need All Dog's go to Heaven in their lives
The little mermaid is not stupid, she asked the witch for good legs to give her gift to the prince hahaha
I’m late to the party. This was the Disney movie that came out when I was a kid. So, Ariel was always my favorite Disney Princess. And Eric 😍 I’ve seen it soo many times, I know every word. I use to sing “Part of That World” to my little sister to put her to sleep. And “Poor Unfortunate Souls” is my FAVORITE villain song. Such a good movie. My absolute favorite Disney movie. I love seeing y’all enjoy it. 🥰🥰🥰
Fox and the Hound would be a great reaction!
King Triton is the son of Poseidon, brother of Zeus
1:14 Who introduces the conductor with a kazoo?! 🤣
2:50 Scuttle’s such a goofball. 😅
4:06 And probably one of the most difficult characters to animate in Disney history. Remember, this was mostly hand drawn.
9:20 She’s closer than you realize, boyo. And Max already approves of her, which is a great start. 😊
9:40 An early example of, “Well, THAT escalated quickly!”
13:51 Duke Ellington?!
17:50 Yeah, THAT’S not creepy at all! 😓
23:53 Never fails to make me laugh. 😂
24:29 “Les Poissons”, a.k.a., the Let’s Traumatize Our Children Song!
37:00 She’s going kaiju! Someone call Gojira!
38:07 Impalement *and* magical overload! Definitely one of Disney’s most brutal villain deaths!
My new favorite Little Mermaid reaction. I loved it!
saw this movie when i was 7 in 1991 on vhs with my family members great movie
it's the only Disney fairy tale whose lyrics and songs I know by heart in Hungarian , although where can I start the story :-D my favorite characters are the crab and the cook
1:32 The word you were looking for is "conductor."
You should watch 101 Dalmatians _ it's the movie Walt Disney did not like the animator that drew it but it was one of their biggest movies
The ending scene from the 1989 version and the 2023 version of Disney's The Little Mermaid is very heartwarming and tearjerking at the same time.
The new one just came out on digital yesterday, you guys should watch it!!!!
If you're thinking of watching Studio Ghibli anime, I recommend Ponyo (on the Cliff by the Sea) as not only is it a great and cute movie (it's my favorite Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki movie), it's inspired by both the fairy tale version and Disney movie version of The Little Mermaid. It has a similiar story to it: Ponyo is a fish girl who meets a five year old boy named Sosuke and she wants to become a human in order to be with him. She does it by being exposed to her father's magic potions but doing so, she unwittingly released a tremendous power that throws the balance in nature out of whack. They need to show true love in order to stop cataclysmic consequences and for Ponyo to truely stay human forever.
I can’t wait for new The Little Mermaid (2023)💙
4:10 Ursula used to be a mermaid but from doing dark arts and killing siblings to be in heir for throne triton banished her and I think either cursed her or she changed herself. Triton and Ursula are siblings( and Percy Jackson would be Ariel’s uncle)
The kitchen horror scene with Sebastian . . . 🤣🤣🤣
I loved this movie & the tv animated series
Hello from France
That is the real Little Mermaid, the classic. Not the "woke" shit that we got this year. When i think that Sophie Turner can get the role and she doesn't got it while she had the perfect phisical look. This is the disgrace. Moreover they want change the lyrics of "Kiss the girl". They distroy their own classics. Continous to watch the originals movies.
There was a time Disney was wonderful and made us dream when we were child, but this time is gone.
im so happy you watched this. its my favorite childhood movie and i loved your commentary on it.
You ladies need to watch Casablanca. One of the best movies ever made, and it has Bulgarian characters in it.
The litte murmured 2 is good too
My favorite Disney movie of all time
One of my favorite movies! Can’t wait for the live action thats coming out in May🧜🏽♀️✨
17:03 No, they are Moray Eels (which aren't electric).
There's always a huge monster 37:00
My favorite! I saw this in the threaters when I was 8 years old!!!!!
This was one of my most favorite cartoons as a kid
You should watch the prequel to Ariel! It’s underrated
I love it when you ladies laugh
Actually, it's mostly AMERICAN dads that are overprotective toward their daughters to the point that they distrusts their crushes until they get to know them. That's not the case with every part of the world, especially here in Sweden where the dad's are open to their daugher's crushes, their potentially future son-in-laws.
I saw this in the theaters when I was 6 or 7. Haven't seen it since... Until now. Thanks for the great show and wonderful reaction.
Is this full reaction on Patreon? I can't seem to find it
I wonder what Gordon Ramsay will say about the chef and his kitchen
I love your reactions! please react the little mermaid two
The voice of Ursula just passed away last year. 🥀🐙
Ah, we are the daughters of Triton,

Best intro to a Disney movie LoL 0:30
I laughed to tears
I wonder if Max was modelled after the dog Wordsworth from "Jamie And The Magic Torch"?

ursula = best villain
Ellie & Viki Should Love This Classic Disney Kids Movie Called “The Little Mermaid”.
Ursula's garden are mermaids and mermen transformed into polyps. Or at least that is what i heard they are.
16 seems so young. But back in the late 1800's, the average life expectancy in America for a white male was only 35. Black males was only 34. Women also had to make it through child birth...over and over. For everyone....infections was a major concern. Whether by being shot or getting stuck by a rusty nail. A Union General died near the massive Shiloh battle during the American Civil War, not from battle wounds but by getting tetnus from a nail, to which he later died.
watch Aladdin! greatest movie ever 😂
After watching this, I have a question that everyone could answer. I'm actually very curious to read your answers: Who is looking forward to see the REMAKE of this? 🤔🤔🤔
Hello,i would like to suggest two movies to watch and react.First Old boy(korean version),and i saw the devil korean movie too.
I read that this was the last Disney animated film to use hand-painted cels.
The whole group should watch The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea
I always laugh whenever I imagine Ariel meeting Captain Jack Sparrow.
Love it! Any chance you could react to the new 2023 Little Mermaid movie with Halle Bailey?
U guys should watch the hunchback of notredame. It is the most underrated Disney cartoon movie ever ❤️❤️👍
Now for you to do: _The Little Mermaid_ (1989) *GROUP REACTION* - with right hands over hearts!
You should watch Hunchback Of Notre Dame

The original film is timeless (and got me into redheads). Ignore the unneeded remake.
Kiss The Girl is a beautiful scene. It's my favorite scene in the movie.

Unfortunately Disney, Marvel & Lucas Films has lost it's way with their Gender Division, woke Indoctrination and Identity politics
Over story telling like this. Still the like button Has been Illuminated. Yet I would ask you to react to( Alita Battle Angel )
Unfortunately Disney now has Control of this as Well !!!
Please watch the 2023 version
Fish don't live as long as humans so 16 fish years is probably closer to 35 human years

Michelle "It's better down where it's wetter" lmao 😆
