Her public apology was badly written and spoken. An apology should never start with "If I". That is not accepting responsibility for anything. You needed to start with "I apologize for......"
No great loss, no great shakes. A perfect example of a completely manufactured screen persona, masking a mean, spiteful monster behind the facade. I doubt anyone will miss her exiting the business. Next! 😊
"Be kind to one another." Such bs. I also hated that she found jump scares so hilariously funny. I kept waiting for a heart attack. Like...grow up! I had to stop watching that phony. She began to disgust me.
I never bought the whole "queen of nice" title the first time I heard it...about Rosie O'Donnell, who has turned out to be mean and crazy since then. When it exploded that Ellen was just as nasty and awful, nobody was surprised.
She was on Johnny Carson’s show but he ended up banning her because there were certain jokes he did not want to be told on his show because of the wide ranging audience and the fact he didn’t want people to be offended She did it any way So she was rotten from the beginning.
A lot of people in the comments are saying that they thought that she had a mean side underneath all of that “Everyone needs to be nice to everyone BS” I gotta say that I honestly never saw that in her and I truly believed that she was a decent person until people came forward with how they were treated by her. I was truly shocked and blindsided by her true character. I guess I should not have been surprised though because at the end of the day she is just another celebrity which pretty much says everything right there. Also, I just gotta say that once I saw what she did to Mariah Carrey there is really no coming back from that SMH 🤦♀️
Some people say that the role of performer should be separated from the human being, but that does not apply if your whole trademark centers about being nice to each other.
If I've offended any of you, I'm truly sorry. 🤦 I'm also totally ignorant of my own toxic nature and unaware that I'm an asshole. I really don't know why you people think that of me? 🤣
I never liked her. I never watched her show but would occassionally stumble upon it while flicking through channels. For reasons that I cant explain I found her repellent. I could not fathom why she was so popular.
She happened to come out at the right time. Ellen isn’t funny but she’s personable and good at doing a talk show. Sometimes timing is everything. She got what she deserved.
Her show preceded my local TV affiliate's afternoon news. I remember one time that I caught the tail-end of the Ellen Degeneres show. It was Christmas-related and she had several people in holiday costumes dancing on the stage. Apparently, some stagehand missed a dance move, and the look Ellen gave that poor stagehand shocked me. This was a few years before the allegations of how she treated her employees, but I distinctly remember that episode.
I liked some of her early stand up routines & a few of her comedy specials but I rarely watched her TV show. I think I may have seen 3 or 4 episodes, but only because I wanted to see a particular guest, not Ellen herself. I always thought she had a mean streak that she kept hidden just from the pranks she pulled on people, especially those stupid jump scares. She enjoyed them too much & laughed too hard at the expense of whomever was on the receiving end. It doesn't surprise me to hear that many people had stories of her fake persona & how she treated them behind closed doors, away from the camera. She made her millions, no need for her to stick around as a has been washed up mean old lady. Portia, the talentless trophy wife, is only sticking up for her "sugar daddy" meal ticket... I've heard tales that Katy Perry & Kevin Hart are also not so nice to those "beneath them". The entertainment industry, especially in Hollywood, is full of narcissistic egomaniacs.
This is a great example of why cancel culture is loathsome. Reading through some of the comments, I can’t help, but think people need to attack others in this way just to feel better about their dismal, unhappy existence
I remember seeing video of her w/ former pres George W. Bush in his box at the football stadium. They were laughing and she had on a huge gold wristwatch. This all makes sense now.
George W. Bush was also on Jimmy Kimmel Live having a grand old time. Plus, Bush is good friends with the Obamas, especially Michelle. Does that mean we turn our backs on Kimmel, the Obamas, etc.? And what's the point of the gold watch? Jealous?
I don’t mean to be disrespectful but I’ve always kinda wondered if working for Ellen pushed tWitch over the breaking point idk, not blaming her directly but maybe the tense working environment
I just can't believe how she went from, well, wait, yes, I CAN believe that she went from this humble GREAT and very funny standup comedian in the late 80s to this. I used to really love her before her head swelled.
It was her two professional producers, products of the industry long before she got there who were the problem. But Evangelical Republicans saw a chance to smear and attack her by guilt by association, so they did. All lies, all hate, all wrong. shame on you for continuing the smear.
one good, honorable thing she did and I commend her for this, when she said she's leaving she actually did. unlike the other scumbags said and didn't do. Rosie Odonnell, George Clooney, Robert DeNiro I can go on forever.
She had messed up her career back in the 90's. Ellen her show, she announced her life and came out. The show got pull, which was not fair. She is truly amazing actress and plus she should do more children's movie. That finding Dory was so damn funny too 😂👍👍👍👍
Before it all came out there were two moments that made me cringe: 1. One where it seemed she was faking upset about a dog issue 2. A woman taking too much candy and being put in a weird secluded area as punishment Then when the news came out, there were so many other red flags that I had missed and it made me 🙈🤦🏻♀️ And I was like 🙈🤦🏻♀️ at the insincere apologies
She is in show business. The public sees an act, not the person. I always believed she was doing a Goody Two-Shoes act, but the act was so phony that the unpleasantness was like a given -- anybody who tries that hard to seem virtuous probably isn't.
I never really watched her, she was too much to the left for me. But the few times I did there was something there. She did put on a good front though. She made enough money for the next 20 lifetimes.
Hm. She never did anything for me.... but I'm not surprised that she's mean in person. That much fame and money can really bring out the worst in some people. Shame that she played the Misogynist - Homophobe card to blame it on anyone but herself.
I was NEVER a fan. I’m not surprised at all the stories about her being rude. She is not a good person. She can blame everyone but it was her own doing. I don’t feel bad for her.
I don't know if she is as awful as everyone says, but she always gave me the creeps; I couldn't understand why she was so popular. I never watched her show but I know her act is taken from Bob Newhart.
This makes me sad, she was very fun, funny and giving but it seems she became so enamored with being buddies with all these stars, kind proud of herself for this. Maybe she became narcissistic for this reason and decided that “regular people “ weren’t worth her time or caring.
Being gay and old is acceptable being mean is not

THANK YOU ! I cringed the first time I saw that and silently hoped that one of her guests would return the same !
I never bought the whole "queen of nice" title the first time I heard it...about Rosie O'Donnell, who has turned out to be mean and crazy since then.

Company: "Hey, can we pay you to give our stuff away?"
Viewers: "OMG Ellen is buying people gifts she's so nice and kind!"
Way overrated. She wasn't that funny as a standup, but she knew the right people and got a show that stayed on for years.
She was on Johnny Carson’s show but he ended up banning her because there were certain jokes he did not want to be told on his show because of the wide ranging audience and the fact he didn’t want people to be offended

So she was rotten from the beginning.
I never found her funny, either as a standup or her comedy show. Never watched her talk show either. She just wasn't that interesting.
She got away with it because she came out as gay!
she was REALLY funny in the 90'S. and the show was great...
She wasn't funny as a stand up. Shows like hers were gossip. glad my wife doesn't watch those shows
she can just go away.

“Meticulous persona” should have been stated as “Meticulously crafted persona” 🤔
Yes indeed.
