    I've just watched the press conference. The PM always has a smirk on her face every time she mentions the energy price guarantee. She even smirked as she walked off the stage after taking a few questions and giving non answers.
    She must genuinely think that she's doing well and one upping people if she's smirking like that. That's a dangerous sign of how this PM thinks of herself and how she thinks everything is going.

      Agree. Timing is critical. They are at their lowest ebb now but if they can linger on for another two years who knows what will be happening geopolitically. If the Ukraine war ends in a peace deal in which Truss can ride on the coat tails of the parties involved, the Tories would get an inevitable bounce in the polls. 6 months to 1 year is now an eternity in politics

    She keeps mentioning the energy price . The whole sale gas price is lower now than this time last year . No wonder she’s smirking she’s promised her pay masters guaranteed high profits for the next two years . While the British pay the price. Or was that her plan we keep paying high energy prices and in two years near the General election they have managed to get energy prices down to a four year low WOW thanks Lizzy

      Eh? The price cap is on the unit cost of energy per kWh. If the market price goes below that the additional cost to the taxpayer would be zero. A year ago electricity was 19p kW h and today 32 p kwh .
      For gas it was 4 p kW h and in Oct 2022 10p kW h.

    I think Unconditional Basic Income for everone rich and poor alike, the opposite of trickle down economics, would encourage growth. Perhaps UBI is the wrong term, but I don't understand why when the UK tax payer bailed out the banks, we didn't all become shareholders in said bank, and therefore recieved dividends when the bank became profitable again. Instead, the government sold the share back to the banks at a loss to the tax payer, placing massive bonuses into bankers pockets.

    This is the classic case of ambition outweighing capability. The problem is that off the top of my head, I cannot identify any MP's, of any political persuasion, who has the ability to be a Government Minister. My only hope is that at the next GE, a coalition government forms, comprised of Greens, Liberal Democrats and Labour and they implement a proportional representation Government as one of their first acts, so that First Past the Post is removed for some time hence.
