I have no sympathy for this country anymore. When you spend 13 years consistently voting for the people that make your life worse, you deserve what you get.

I just hope we actually learn, I mean how can any Northern cities and towns vote Tory when it's obvious that only care about the rich in London and it's suburbs.

How can well-connected career politicians (not leaders of people) on high salaries and secured pensions do anything for the ordinary working class masses that they have no connection or responsibility to, or feelings for?! These people are not leaders. They only take care of themselves and the ones that financially backed them into getting into power.
Our people must unite and stand up for themselves before all is lost.
An Oliver Cromwell type of thing
Absolutely. Sadly the left is either too busy attacking the Labour party or attacking the unions. Nowhere near enough peeople seem to be supporting both
The English electorate have kept these charlatans in power for 12 years. I know who I blame for this disaster.
"Our people must unite and stand up for themselves before all is lost."
People have been posting messages like this for years. They're totally meaningless. The "people" will ultimately do nothing but take whatever abuse is dished out to them, whilst venting on social media....oh and perhaps going on a protest march or two, which also won't change anything. And then when the next election comes, they will vote for the Tories again. There "might" be a little blip in that this time though, and Labour might win a minority government, but it won't last and the mugs of the land will be back to voting for the Tories again not long afterwards.
Amen, to that!.
Cowardly and shameful should be the big slogan on the wall behind the speakers at the Tory conference.
Being inept is bad enough, but hiding during the crisis they created is unforgivable.
@straight white male Do you honestly think anybody won that?
@straight white male Because that's gone so smoothly.
@straight white male That's such a dishonest representation of the car crash we've had. It's not even about it being "effortless and immediate", look at how round after round of negotations have failed. Look at the NI protocol, at the various proposals and agreements that the Tories themselves have drawn up only to cast aside or renege on.
Your attempts at personal attacks are weak. Keep guessing my age all you like, it's no substitute for actually knowing what you're talking about.
@straight white male You're only fooling yourself.
Give them a chance? That's like saying "I wanted to give cancer a chance". You know what those nincompoops stand for, there was no way they would't continue and worsen the malaise.
Well said, I was taken aback when he said that. I was never a question of whether it would be a disaster, just what sort of disaster and how quickly. Now we know, a big one, immediately.
Absolutely nailed it on the head, they should both be ashamed, we need political reform now. Where politicians are truly held to account for the actions or in action.
Yep proportional representation would sort all this yo-yo nonsense

If there were CEO of a private company, they'd be flung out by security. Yet because it's government there's no accountability, no sense of responsibility, no apology but mostly no talent.

There was me thinking you couldn't get worse than Boris Johnson
Perfectly summed up Andrew, they think they are right when most of the rest of the world think otherwise, what a shambles
I don't trust a single word that comes out of their mouths. Why is Kwarteng looking down as she speaks, like he's hiding something. Sick of appalling people running the country.
Tories have NOW lost the plot

I have news for her ladyship - not everyone can work, due to disability, illness and/or caring responsibilities. And those who do/can are being pushed to the very limits of endurance. She needs a REALITY CHECK.
OMG thank goodness Andrew Marr finally left the BBC, removed his shackles, and found his voice. Finally, we get to hear what he really thinks and he is dynamite. A brilliant analysis of the current shambles we're in but let's be honest; Lizz Truss was the best of a poor bunch of candidates and this country is in free-fall. Keep up the great work Andrew.

No, Andrew, it's what young people call "throwing shade". Gaslighting is something completely different.
stop gaslighting him 🤣
Gaslighting is lying to someone and telling them they're wrong, imagining things, the one in the wrong for not agreeing with the person doing the gaslighting.
In other words, the Tory Party for the last 12 years.
No cap
I prefer the expression giving the idiots enough rope to hang themselves.
Gaslighting is a psychological cognitive tool to fool a person into believing stuff that isn't true. It's a form of lying.
The key difference is conventional lying is when you lie to avoid negative consequences that would arise if you told the truth whereas gaslighting is lying to manipulate/fool someone else in order to benefit you.
Classic example would be to gaslight your parents to change the terms of their will and convince them to bequeath more money to you. You make up lies to benefit you in the long term.
Throwing shade means displaying disgust at someone.
If only Sunak was the pm
If Tory backbenchers don't demand a vote of no confidence then it simply proves what many of us have known for a decade or more. The Tories only care about one thing; their jobs.
It just proves to me that they agree with corruption and wrong doing. They better make the most of the 2 years they have left because this will be the end for them if the public suffer anymore.
I've read recently that some are already wanting one. There is a shred of hope left.

Well said Mr Marr - saying what we are all thinking though shameless, cowardly and dereliction of duty doesn’t go far enough.
People are 'tolerating' it cos they read The Mail and are not politicised. They think it’s ok.
I don't agree with Andrew Marr - they could have Rishi in by next week if there was the motivation to do so, the Tories have always been ruthless when they needed to be in the past. I think if Rishi got it and the budget was reversed then the majority of the country would simply be very relieved.
Er. One problem. Truss would not agree to Rishi stepping in as Chancellor. She'd rather resign, forcing a general election that the Tories would lose. The rules don't allow replacing Truss with another PM. So, either way, the Tories are now totally messed up with a loser as their leader and PM that most British voters (according to the polls) have rejected.

This is the apotheosis of Thatcherite economic policy.

I am not a Tory (left leaning LibDem) but all you need to do to get a real flavour of how badly they are doing at running the economy is to ask yourself. "what would the papers be saying if this were happening and Labour were in charge right now?" And I think we can all guess what the headlines would be. Even the Guardian would be having a go.
Things are so bad that even I have been thinking about buying gold before the pound becomes totally worthless. I know that the tories are in hock to the very very rich but as of yet ordinary people are still the ones who vote for MPs.
Labour are the ones getting a grilling from the media, basically because they are the only ones talking to the media!
Corbyn was treated abominably by the media because he was for meaningful change to a fairer society
80,000 relatively wealthy conservatives SHOULD NEVER vote in a new prime minister with declared radical economic changes, this is a massive weakness in the way we elect parties. If a party is going to move away from their mandate they should be obliged to call a general election.

Idiott
Never interrupt your opponent when they are making a mistake so says Rishi as he goes for a walk.
Politicians don't work for the people who elect them, but for the people who pay their bills. No doubt when Truss and Kwarteng leave office one day they will be suitably rewarded with consultancies and directorships which will make them eye-wateringly rich. These are the realities of power. When it comes to the next election the corporate press, all owned and managed by people who have personally benefitted from these policies, can be counted on to close ranks around them and protect them and do everything they can to keep them in power, which history shows is quite a lot. The British political system is utterly corrupt at the top, but even when confronted with an extreme example like this, everyone lives in denial.
