Insta360 Ace Pro vs GoPro Hero10 and DJI Osmo Action 3 - which is best for motovlogging?

- The Insta360 Ace Pro is a new camera that recently entered the race for Action Cam superiority. It's got a tough act to follow with both GoPro and DJI already grabbing a large share of the market. But Insta360 have done things a little bit differently with the Ace Pro. Does his make it a real challenger? By looking at the key categories for a motorcyclist/motovlogger, do I think this will be a long term replacement for my GoPro Hero 10?

Really good detailed review and easy to get ones head around the different types of pros and cons of the 3 brands.
Great comparison review! Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Excellent timing and focus. I've been looking at new cameras for my YT channel and this makes the decision making easy. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Great review, thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Nice review Tony, so refreshing to see someone actually include battery life. Real world use, ease of app and mounting all in one video. Top marks 👍🏻
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent video mate, good points for us motovloggers!
Cheers Dan
That was a really useful vid, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
That was great, it was very useful👍🏻
Glad it was helpful!
Nice unbiased video Tony. Think you covered all of the bases, and it does look as though the Insta has moved things forward. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Very interesting. Funnily enough part of my enjoyment of the excellent 2024 Africa Twin Vid was the fact that the quality of the footage was noticeably better than previously (not saying previously was bad or anything lol) 👍
Great video. I have no interest in using an action cam, but I follow several RUclips channels and in that regard, the quality of the video IS important to me. Most bloggers strive to use the best equipment as it is released and it seems that the insta range of cameras is raising the bar in terms of quality, features AND optional extras. I thought the remote preview screen/control was an excellent idea! Thanks for making this comparison between the brands. I found it very interesting.
Thanks for sharing!
Great insight Tony. Thank you. For me, I’ve had it with GoPro as each model upgrade just doesn’t seem to work best from a motorbike perspective.
I agree, maybe they’ve been resting on their laurels a bit?
@@mancavemoto Plus, living in Melbourne we average about 20 days a year with temps above 35 degrees Celsius and they just can’t cope. I’ve also got two Insta X3’s and they work a treat!
Great video. Simple with all that matters. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Does it have a quick start mode like the Gopro to turn and start recording when you press the button?
I chose the middle camera 🙌
I've watched many vloggers over the years. The best combo I've seen/heard. Richy Vida who's on par with TMF. Adventure 4 Life has a great set up too.
nice review as usual , I have the DJI 3 and do not vlog , like the size and ease of use ... but I might go with a 360 since I like what that does Alain & Yellow
Thanks, the DJi does a lot of things well and it runs a close second. I too like it’s compactness and ease of use. It would have been interesting to see what the 4 is like.
The Boya By-K4 mic adapter works well for 3.5mm TRS microphones on the Osmo Action Cameras. Great video as always Tony.
Cool, thanks
Very nice video, very informative and easy to digest, thank you. Could you please tell me what mount or how do you mount the Ace pro on your helmet?
Thanks. I have a curved arm that fixes to the helmet with a stick on GoPro mount
You can set the x3 in the middle of the handlebars move it a bit toward you, and you'll have a perfect fromt and rear view instead of using 2 cameras and then joining 2 clips together.
You can also extend the stick forward and film yourself on a bike as someone else riding in front and filming you.
The only issue with x3 is the distortion which you need to negate when reframing.
I have done that before, but it means putting the X3 high to clear the screen, and you don’t get the view of the cockpit. I prefer to use two cameras and cut between to break up the footage, also the helmet can always offers a POV. Watch most of my bike/helmet and travel videos and you’ll see I’ve used the extended stick a lot.
@@mancavemoto please put a link to your x3 cam here.
Great review Tony, thanks, very informative. I’ve just started experimenting with my Ace Pro. Can I ask what field of view have you settled on for helmet mount shots?
Cheers, I filmed the Honda event in ‘Actionview’ which seems to work well.
@@mancavemoto Ah, cool thanks. I'm still experimenting. I wanted to use the horizon levelling mode, but I find it cuts off too much of the bike for my liking compared to my old GoPro 9 with a Max Mod lens to do the levelling.
Tony. Have you done a review for the Innovv K5 . I’m looking for a permanent system but I’m not sure if the quality is good
I haven’t no, they did speak to me and we were going to make a video, then it all went quiet
Nice vid. The ace pro looks a good option. Does it allow charging/power whilst recording?
Thanks, ah good point I forgot to cover. Yes it does
Tony, if someone was starting from scratch no experience in vlogging but interested in starting which camera would you think would be the one to go with Cheers Glenn.
Any of them would be a good camera. I think the Ace Pro and Osmo Action have the best user interface. The Ace Pros app is excellent and makes creating content on your phone really easy. Another factor will be cost and the Osmo Action 3 is currently being offered at a very competitive price!
Sticking with the Osmo Action 4 (I had the osmo action 3 and the 4 blows it away) and with the DJI mic 2 it’s a brilliant set up but good info
Yes the DJI runs it close, and I do like the user interface on the osmo. It’s new price makes it very attractive too
A really interesting comparison, I recently bought an Insta360 Ace Pro and remote more as a helmet dash cam more than anything, but I would like to put a few videos up in the future, I really like that if you start recording using the remote and pause it using the remote's screen, from then on you can start and pause the camera using the remotes button, much easier in a gloved hand, it is sort of editing as you film. Can the remote start the x3 at the same time as the Ace Pro? Are you at ABR this year Tony?
Cheers David, it was actually better than j thought. I haven’t tried the remote with the X3 yet, I’ll give it a go. Yep should be at ABR again, I think the AT will be on the SW-Motech stand
Excellent review and round up Tony...the Go pro has always had a few competitors, but now there are real alternatives. For lots of people ease of use and battery life are the most important thing. Can the footage from these cameras be blue toothed to my smartphone...? It has so much memory it doesn't have a memory card...I used to take the card from the GoPro and put it in the phone! Cheers Steve
Bluetoothed whilst recording or after recording? If the latter, yes the app is very good
There are a lot of Motion Blur. Did you use a high fps rate?
No I filmed with all af them at 24fps, which is my usual chosen frame rate
@@mancavemoto its youtube ,I change resolution, know its ok.
MAYBE it's because i have OA-/OA-3 that my were already "trained/attracted" to far L video picture. Have had OA-1 since mid/late 2020 & OA-3 since, roughly same time frame, 2022. Nice comparison/review...Aloha from Hawaii
Cheers Harry, yes thats why I didn't go down the 'whats better' route, its all about the look that you prefer.
@@mancavemoto....STILL debating on Insta360 x3--y/n?
I like it, brings a different perspective
Hi Tony, just to correct you- the DJI mic adapter DOES work with the Action 3. You just can't charge and record at the same time, unlike with the Action 4. Also, the adapter will not allow data transfer so you have to either unclip the adapter or remove the sd card.
Ah interesting, I queried it’s compatibility when it was launched with DJI and they told me it only works with the 4. Hence I didn’t want to spend £45 to try it
@@mancavemoto yeah - not cheap! I think it was worth it though, however I plan to buy an Action 4 soon so happy days!
I noticed they’ve cut the price of the Action 4 too
@@mancavemoto yes. Action 5 on the way?
Quite possibly
Wrong about the DJI Action mic adapter. Despite DJI saying on their website it's only for the Action 4 it actually works fine with the Action 3. The worst feature of the Action 3 is that you can't split the USB3 connector to use external power and an external mic at the same time. The annoying issue with the adapter is that the same thing happens despite having a TRS/stereo mic socket alongside the USB3; If you plug anything in the USB the TRS mic socket is overridden. I, like may motorcyclists I presume, want to set my cameras going for hours at a time on external power and hook them up to proper external mics. Sorry I spent so much on a pair of Action 3s when they can't do such a simple thing. It would have been a deal breaker if I'd known. My fault.
Somebody else mentioned that. When the mic adapter was launched recently I actually spoke to someone at DJII who told me it wasn’t compatible, so I didn’t want to risk throwing £45 down the drain. It sounds like they are saying this because of that charging issue ie it’s not ‘fully’ compatible. That wouldn’t have bothered me as I was only concerned with the mic connection.
24fps hurts in the eye for a moto-video, why not 60 fps
24 fos is fine, 60 isn’t necessary
Over £500 🙀
£429 for the Ace Pro
ye but still a lot of money mate😆@@mancavemoto
Your one of those jerks on a bike that thinks they own the road if you go in-between my car and another I'll open my door when your coming drive right or get off my road!
Sorry who’s the jerk?…..you’re openly condoning trying to kill or injure a rider for making perfectly legal manoeuvres. Grow up. Claiming people who filter think they own the road, then you end your comment saying get off MY road. Oh the irony
