I purchased a 2019 Rexton Ultimate when they were first released in Australia (Y400 platform). Now in its 5 year of ownership, I can say during this time its used for daily city commutes etc, then I use the Rex to tow our Swan Outback camper which has travelled from Melbourne to the NT during December in the peak heat times. The car has performed without fault. The only issue to date was an alternator which was replaced under warranty. Yes it doesn't have all the fancy bells and whistles, the ride is twitchy and soft at the same time. But overall its a nice place to be in the cabin, tows well, not too heavy on fuel and overall the quality is excellent. My experience to date is good with great support and servicing. As the brand is growing more parts will become available for all models.. So for the haters of Ssyangyong, maybe take one of the vehicles for a test drive before commenting. You will be surprised and the money you save.
Couldn’t agree more. Now on my 3yr of ownership on a Rexton Ultimate. Not an issue to date. My son has had his Mercedes SUV in for warranty work twice. Best value large SUV on the road hands down. Reliability is first class.
I bought my Musso earlier this year. Wanted to pay less than $50k with a lot of extras. Wow do SsangYong deliver. Fantastic ute. Test drove the LDV first, then this beast, was like chalk & cheese. I would buy the KGM Torres. Looks great & packed with goodies!!
I bought a KGM Torres 4WD Amazon green one in Türkiye a month ago. Although the interior equipment is different from the Australian models, the exterior appearance and engine are the same. We have a repair kit, you have a spare tire. The interior dash and screens are different. The Turkish model has a 3rd screen with air conditioning and seat heating. There are curtains that can be lowered and lifted on the rear side windows. While you have headrests and back pockets, we don't. It has become a very nice and safe vehicle. Because the steel ratio used is even higher than Volvo: 78%.. I recommend it.
I would certainly have one. I like how it looks. I can't afford one. I've never charged a phone or used any of the other tech stuff that was mentioned so that's no bother. I don't even use the cruise control. But seeing that you asked about Ssangyong owners, I thought that I'd let you know that I've had two. The first was a Musso that I had for 13 years, and I also have a Stavic that is going on for 19 years. I've only had to replace the head unit on the Stavic. Apart from that, no problems. Which reminds me, I'm way over due for a service. Better get that done so that I get a bit longer out of it.
I've had my 2020 Rexton for 4 years by now. Zero issues not even a minor one. I can see why those who bought a Ssangyong once just keeps buying more. On Facebook groups it's easy to see people who've had 4,5 or even more.
At 8:03 when you show the phone and cable. If you have the phone the right way up, there is a hole so you can hide the cable and feed it through, so no need to have the phone upside down like you had it :) very nice car and drives really nice to
I like this. The design language is so cool IMO. The alignment issues you raise do play with my OCD but in a good way. I like anything that has a disruption to a shape or line. All good.
I wish KGM Ssangyong would seriously start promoting their products in Aus a bit better, more advertising, more dealers .. they have good reliable products and have been around for a long time..
Bought a new runout Y450 Ultimate in July and even with just about every accessory in the catalogue fitted it still came in less than a Paj Sport Exceed with much more equipment as standard. The only minor issues are the lack of native navigation and adaptive cruise but I can live with both those and as a driving experience, it has been a pleasant surprise, with the 3.5T towing being the icing on the cake. I am trying to persuade my daughter to buy a Torres this year, although if they decide to bring the updated Actyon into Oz, I’d be suggesting she waits, as that looks even better. Hopefully KGM Ssangyong can start to get the recognition its vehicles genuinely deserve from the buying public.
@@YZJB I had my asshole chewed out about diesels a couple of months ago on other RUclips channels. Without them though the economy would come to a grinding halt or Cost of living would be unobtainable
It definitely looks great and unique, it looks better than the kia sportage. This kgm reminds me of the older suzuki grand vitara. The torres having an aisin automatic means its more relialbe than kia and hyundai dual clutch. The main problem is see is the lack of ac controls. This is definitely the best looking sang young vehicle i have seen in a while. 25mpg for awd is normal , almost all awd vehicles have worse fuel consumption, except for subaru vehicles.
Buying Chines car is a dead end, no resale value and it's only nice when new. Many of mechanics said you can't get part for Chinese cars. Dealers only sell cars not parts. Use your head, it's $30k down the drain in few years time.
I know it's not the same off road type, but I finally ordered the Honda CR-V AWD Sports Premium here in NZ today. Comes with that wonderful 1.5L Turbo, 140kw and 240Nm. I would say a good option to this?
It’s an impressionist rear end. As long as it is functional. The kink in the roof may be to give it more strength. The design of the car is very USA look. I can see a few American car in there. Obviously more for that market like a lot Asian car builders.
Nice looking by Ssangyong standards but that isn't saying much. At least Ssangyong tend to make reliable vehicles. If planning to be a long term owner, 10,000km services would be good idea given its a turbo.
I sat in one of these at a dealer last week. I was surprised by a couple of things: - the build quality, in terms of panel fit and flushness, panel gaps, paint quality. All excellent and above average. - the interior design, build quality and general ambience. All significantly nicer and more solid-feeling than any Chinese car I’ve sat in. Also a bonus that it didn’t smell like a $2 shop. I’m not in the market for a car like this, but if I was I would seriously consider a Torres. It’s different, it’s cool, and it seems very nicely put together. A diesel would be nice though, just for more torque and better economy.
When I had my first close look at a Torres at the local KGM dealer, I thought it was less radical than it looked in the magazine articles. Its not that "out there". And is the roof line and the rear end really that weird? Its an interesting car to look at, and the quality appeared to be quite good.
I think they’ve done a good job - it looks great at the back - quirky for sure but it’s not boring like every other car of this class. Also that boot is FAR bigger than a Forester? What on earth are you talking about - it’s even bigger than an Outback and that is bigger than the Forester. I know, I’ve owned both.
First review I've see where someone's talked about alternative options before actually reviewing the car. Seems like you're trying to turn people off this brand from the beginning which is a shame as KGM deserves more recognition.
looks good. pity there arent enough dealers though. a bit of a chicken and egg problem for Ssangyong. people wont buy the cars without a robust dealer network. SY wont invest in dealers until sales take off.
@honeyisaac it's not underpowered, it does 0-100 in 9.6 seconds or so , that is not bad. It's still faster than a hilux. Once you take 11 seconds to hit 100km thats when it's slow.
Ssangyong you are making good cars but increase engine power and torque and in this for Ssangyong Rexton give more torque and more powerful engine. Keep up with other SUV who are providing 500 newton meter's of torque. This is not for me.
an obscure infotainment system from an obscure brand on a platform developed for india already laggy from the start with vital comfort and safety features relegated to the sole screen... What could go wrong in .. like .. a year?

The legacy brands wouldnt be spending hundreds of millions on faceless social media influences and automotive safety NGOs otherwise.
All of what you said is utter nonsense. KGM is NOT owned by SAIC and none of this or any other KGM model is made in China. They have nothing to do with China, are all made from scratch, in South Korea. Where the hell do you get this made up stuff from?
Lol this is misinformation. KGM is the branding for the car segment of KG Group and it is its own company in Korea. They bought Ssangyong a couple of years ago and rebranded to KGM. 95Ron premium fuel is a deal breaker for me. However, my 2021 diesel Rexton Ultimate is amazing.
Most cars do require 95ron

Premium fuel is better for the engine anyway, so I don't understand why it would be a dealbreaker for someone.😀
