R.E.M. 's Mike Mills talks about the Georgia band's induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame

  • The Songwriters Hall of Fame inducted Athens rock icons R.E.M. into its ranks June 13 in New York City. The Georgia band, founded in 1980 by drummer Bill Berry, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills and singer Michael Stipe, recorded 15 albums and won multiple Grammy awards including one for the 1991 song, “Losing My Religion.”

    Congratulations, R.E.M.! Well said, Mr. Mills! JMS is my favorite lyricist and y'all have always been and always will be my favorite Rock band......thank you for the amazing musical journey, etc. for the decades. ❣

    The BV for “Try Not Breathe” really does perfectly flesh out that song, in exactly the same way as Bowie’s BV’s on Lou Reed’s “Satellite of Love” - both songs would fall somewhat flat without them.
