Ive never played starsector but it looks like simplified x4 gonna have to give it a shot
@@mekal779 starsector is at base not an x4, but due to it being made for over a decade the devs, all two of them, say that the mods that have accompanied it for almost a decade are almost core elements.
Anyway one called nexerelin almost makes it a 4x, but I'd suggest one quick play with maybe only quality of life mods, like auto save, pause on combat, salvage etc

Short tip: The safest place to be when fighting an Onslaught is on its six o'clock. There's no rear-facing turrets to speak of and, as shown, the shield is in a fixed 270 degree arc to the front. I've seen a LP Brawler take one down on its lonesome; unfortunately this weakness cuts both ways. Keep an escort on yours.
Also short tip: If you're using the Luddic Enhancement mod, putting an officer or the "Reinforced Bulkheads" hullmod on an IED ship *should* ensure that it can be recovered after battles. The best suicide attack is the one you can do repeatedly.
Long-ass tip: Near as I can tell, Hegemony AI inspections always go for the "capital" planet of your space empire. Unfortunately, even with a star fortress and heavy batteries, both managed by Alpha AI cores, there's still a chance that the Hegemony can punch through and steal your stuff. As a one-time thing you can spend story points to bribe them, sure, but that costs story points and the cost for it keeps going up. Fortunately there's a solution: Ask around in the bars on stations and planets and you'll eventually find someone talking about a "red planet." Follow that little quest line and you can eventually build a somewhat expensive but very effective safety measure. Will it stop the Hegemony from staging inspections? No. Will it stop the Hegemony from getting in? Yes.

get a frigate that can survive its rear guns with an armor stripper and hull eater... and you are golden.
alternatively find a way to keep its guns shut down. emp weapons can help with that.

The hegemony inspection will trigger only if you put too many AI on your planet.
1 alpha core or 2 bêta or 3/4 gamma seems to work fine with me.
So you can be friend with the hegemony and use AI...
High tech starfortress is the ultimate tool for repelling low tech fleets. The beam weapons make the best use of the extreme range. This includes ion beams which will continuously EMP anything that can't keep its shields up.
There's nothing like a High tech fortress capable of firing when you immediate spawn your fleet in to combat, and taking a plasma bolt to the bow of my ship because I didn't think I needed my shields up so soon.

@@Rarr True, but the projectiles are slow and easy to dodge when compared with beams, nothing like a couple of Tachyon lances reaching out across the black and cleaving your ship in half.

Midline have some good dakka too until they decide to present their vulnerable backside to the enemy fleets.
In case you're wondering you can safely remove an Alpha AI core from an industry. It's when you put it in charge of a planet that it objects to being removed.
I love the fact you don’t have to deal with luddic terrorist cells with your alpha AI’s but now you deal with the worse option, super jealous factions that want your market shares.

theres a mod for that, cant remember it currently, but it lets you convince the ai of good intentions for a story point if you have an automated ship in the fleet
Funny thing, in lore the luddic path actually bombarded a world like you did.
I think without mods it's one of the Persean league worlds or Tri-tachyon. Mayasura.

PSA: if you fire do a sensor burst while an enemy ship is charging their interdiction, you can avoid it

Goddamn the Eradicator is such a good ship. Fast, tanky, and the variants are so flexible. New update will feature a ton new capital ships and changed loadouts for all factions, diversifying them. Can't wait until Starsector is finally released as 1.0.
There will never be enough Starsector content to satisfy me, but this is a good start.

StarSector is the only way we could re-enact the awesome space battles like in Legend of the Galactic Heroes.
I just witnessed an advertisement for a "Wolf Game" where this dog catcher lookin dude throws a baby wolf in a cage in the back of his car, and then a bunch of wolves start chasing the car attacking the car but being thrown off then several wolves on both sides up ahead push boulders in front of the car's path and the car crashed sideways with the cage flying out the busted open truck the cage is open and the wolves saved the baby wolf and howl.. These ads are turning into acid trips..

My AI ships wont even come close to anything that could make a slight bump into their hull (im playing without mods, if there is a mod for this).

Nope. Nothing like RimWorld. You're a captain and you build your fleet and improve it, You trade with a very active market, You colonize planets and build them up to make money or protect yourself, and you go on wars and fight battles. Many more things but that's the jest of it
Doing a playthru vs the spindle faction, for some reason they had a homeworld ran by a anime girl and a .5x ground force multiplier and some other mod that gave even more ground defence. I got tired of their shit and just saturation bombarded them till it deciviliced, yeah pisses off the church and the independent, fuck them. After the capital fell it was only half a year later I invaded with 16 fleets I requested with 3200 marines and expunged them from reality.
How do u play with all those mods? not even half of the mods listed work for me

Yeah I wish there is mod which makes those AI faction have limit money to build troops. Like seriously I also faced exactly same thing. I can't go explore in a month boom another raid is coming. GREAT.
Like they keep sending fleets after fleet after fleet. Which is why I hope they implemented system like Mount and Blade. Where the more they lost in battle, the more time they replenish the fleets.
Plus even with their unlimited funds, they still upset player own many shares. As if it affects them.
In my current game the Hegemony calmed down for a while after i took their pristine nanoforge (and a synchrotron too) as retribution for their harassment
they sent two peace negotiation and went back in positive relation + didn't send any inspection for a nice chunk of time.
