      Jay went down in the same place and in the same fashion. Both players were near the right end of the bench in front of the tunnel and both fell forward. Both men had just finished their shifts as well. These unfortunate incidents are eerily similar. #prayforjay

    Just highlights the importance of knowing CPR. A skill everyone should have. And make a mental note of where the AED is located when you go different places (school, work, or somewhere new)

    I was at that game with my family when he had the heart attack. Scary things happen all the time. After that, there was a fight in the parking structure in the vicinity of the Joe Louis Arena (drunk people). It was in November of 2005.

    • @ajk
      @ajk 3 года назад +1

      Wow, never knew about the fight. Classy people........who does that after an incident like this?

  • @AEMoreira81
    @AEMoreira81 13 лет назад +23

    @meds613 Also, there as an AED right near the bench. The NHL changed some rules after this to mandate AEDs in every arena and for team physicians to be very close to the bench.
    That may be why Fischer survived, but Alexei Cherepanov did not.

    Yes. Depending on how severe the seizure is. For example a prolonged loss of consciousness could be potentially life threatening.

  • @meds613
    @meds613 13 лет назад +18

    only way he survived (glad he did, obviously) is because he is in the NHL. They have some of the best doctors on hand, ready to act immediately. If this happens at your local rink, or any incident like the one on Zednik, you're dead.

    It doesn't mean your heart stops every time. Medical attention is indeed needed though. When I was still a child my mom had a seizure at home and it's pretty scary but it was nothing serious.

      Toby Rutter We all die eventually bud, don't let it control your life like it has mine. I suffered a seizure backstage at a set a few months back and actually had a heart attack a couple days later with no history of seizures and heart problems in my family. Sadly ive kind of let the fear control everything in my life and its not good. Im only 24

      he was young and athletic, and the doctor who was doing compressions said he likely went into V-Tach or V-Fib, meaning his heart wasn’t flatlining. the odds of him surviving were definitely not that slim, especially with everyone there to act quickly.
