    Oh my god....epic footage. I go to the Le Mans Classic every time it is on (2 years) and these GT40s are just awesome, with incredible sound - and a fantastc looking car as well.
    The driving here is first rate. It looks like Ray Bellm but I see the video author is from Belgium.

    I love the 180 mph mirror adjustment. Eyes off road, one hand on the wheel, and doesn't break a sweat. Awesome!

    This is the early 4.7 litre version of the car with ZF 5-speed gearbox (5th gear is down where 4th usually is, 1st gear is a dog-leg). That howl at 7000rpm is glorious!

    This is old school racing at its best. My first car was a 65' GTO 389 tri-power back in 67'. I went to work for a Ford dealer in Poughkeepsie, NY. My first demo to drive was a 428 Couger XR7. We got a new red Boss 302 in and I took it out for a spin. Closest thing to a race car I ever driven on the street. But I remember a used car we got in, 66' Mustang 2+2 with the HP289 in it. With the maroon paint and black interior, it was one of the prettiest muscle cars we ever had.

    Thanks for the video. It really gives a sense of the car. We're rebuilding a UK-origin kit car for our cancer awareness program. It will be in Gulf colors.

      The sweet exhaust sound is created by the 180 Degree exhaust system (AKA Basket Of Snakes) :) Also the four 48 IDA Weber carbs give a sweet intake noise which also ad's to the sweet sound :)

    Most GT40s were made at Ford Advanced Vehicles in Slough. The GT40 started off as a Lola GT that evolved to become the car that we love today with a small block Ford engine in them (althogh the mark II and mark IV cars ran bog block Fords). As such nearly all GT40s are right hand drive...in fact I am not aware of any original cars that were LHD

    No it's the ZF 5DS as used in the original cars. The car is an original so it uses the original gearbox; there are no replica partsused.

    You are absolutely right, we tried a long ratio in 2004 and it was too long. In 2006 I did only 2 laps so never found out that the ratio we used then and also in 2008 was too short. I kept running out of revs 6 times per lap, pulling to 7.000 rpm and then just lifting......

  • @34D2234

    that speedo needle was straight down flat out a few times, so he was doing 225-230 on those long ass straights. badd ass car for 45 years old huh. makes the new ford gt's look like subaru sti's

  • @m3procar

    Absolutely marvelous. Just listen to the sound of the engine, it's as if you're part of the movie Le Mans. Nice driving, although I am sure you could find some tenths here and there.
    Nice braking for the first Ford chicane.
    What happened going into the Porsche curves, for some reason it didn't seem to go in to the right gear.
    Is the car still with you and will you be back in 2014? Hope to be there, couldn't make it this year.

  • @hhh1950
    @hhh1950  12 лет назад

    As I am the owner of the car, I can tell you it's original, 100%. Replica's are not allowed at event like this and in any case what has the value to do with racing it or not???
    I have raced cars that are worth $ 20.000.000......................

  • @hhh1950
    @hhh1950  15 лет назад

    No its using the 5-speed ZF gearbox as original. I don't know the intermediate speeds in the gears.

  • @EmbaliDawaFella
    @EmbaliDawaFella 11 лет назад

    How twitchy is the car in the fast corners ? (I see some slight corrections in the right hander between Mulsanne and Indy). and adressing the "real or not" thing going on, Peter Auto won't let a replica drive in LMC... It's just stupid. But out of curiosity, does your car has any race history ?

  • @reddsun1

    Lovely. My all-time dream car. Do you know approximately what top speeds were reached on the straight? Does this car use a 302 or 289 for power?

      give a t40 another gear... goes 360-370 km/h with some aero upgrades no problems , i heard that in lemans before the put a chinace in the middle of the main strait of the circuit , the pushed the gt40 with some tricks here and there and some modification to the motor , they reached about 366 km/h with is mind boggling for the year and tech , t40's men ... they don't fk around

    @classiccafe1 Most sports racing cars have always been RHD, (unless they have been developed from a LHD road car) because most European circuits are clockwise. See Ferraris from the 1950s as an example.

    Hi, this is an original GT40,worth a lot of money......
    The top speed would be around 190mph; the 0-60 I don't know, but it's VERY fast!!!

    I have never seen a LHD GT40......

  • @jongallant6054

    Which motor is in it? Is it a MK1 or MKII ?

  • @hhh1950
    @hhh1950  15 лет назад

    In 1969 the back straight did not have the current 2 chicanes so they could go much faster. We now run a shorter diff than in those days.
    My car has the period type 4,7L but with more hp than in 1966; in 1969 they ran 5L and the 7L was used in the beginning 1964/5.
    There is no difference between the road- and the racing car; same chassis/suspension/gearbox/engine, only the engine has a higher tune.
