  • The Pyramid in Samoa may not one of the more famous ones in the world, especially when compared to the Great Pyramids of Giza or the Pyramid of the Sun at Teotihuacan.
Standing 12 meters high, the Pulemelei Mound is the largest megalithic monument in Samoa.
In 2017, a LIDAR scan revealed something shocking. Aside from the area that was previously mapped, researchers uncovered an extensive network of housing and walkways, including over 80 star mounds. Most of these are located in difficult to reach areas, or have been buried under the island’s shrubbery over the years.

"PULE- MELE'I" There is no such word in our Samoan language, such as "pulemele'i", that is why there is so much confusion over this issue. I heard this land (where pulemele'i is located) was bought by the Nelsons, and with the arrival of the non polynesians. The native (Samoans) heard them talking about the word PIRA-MID and I believe that is where the word pulemele'i came from: PULE= PIRA and MID=MELEI we do it all the time if you come to our islands with your name JACK we will change it to SIAKI, JOHN will be IOAGE and MOSES will be MOSE. I myself hunted wild boars, and wild cattle, in the 60s and 70s from Palauli/Satupa'itea Hights to Sili, Gataivai toTaga and Sala'ilua also Mt Silisili. And during those hunting time in the island of Savaii, we will always come across these mound of rocks, but the base size is smaller than confusion pulemele'i, but about the same hight (as I was told by some of the elders, the purpose of the hight of the mound is to get near the treetops, so the "tagata seulupe" (pigeon catcher) will be closer to the birds we call these mounds "KIASEU" (or tiaseu) Smaller ones looks like they were built for 2 or may be 5 people. There are words and proverbs can be trace back to these KIASEU: "kiaseu o kamali'i" "sopo le maguvale i kiaseu" "aua le seukafili le ga'a" "la'u lupe fa'alele" "lupe o le foaga" "lupe o malumaugu" "vae efu" Le seuga a Lefaoseu o Upolu ma Ulumu o Savai'i na afua ai le "gakia i vao ae puaiga i le ala" and so much more proverbs and words As a Samoan it is an insult to have an ousider come in dig up dirt and tell me where I come from, and explain me about my culture and my ancestors NO NO we are rich in proverbs, songs, and words we can trace our own past kusa lava pe kala lasi Samoa leave it alone aua pe fananau mai isi tupulaga a'oa'oina i Iugivesike, e koe fo'i lava i Savai'i kalage o koeaiiga makukua mo faamaklaga sa'o E leai gi alagaupu, leai gi pese, po'o gi upu o faamakala ai se PIRA-PULE MID-MELE"I E le valea uma fo'i kamaiki Savai'i

You do realize Samoa was colonised by a European interpretation and version of Christianity. A Eurocentric version of government, democracy laws and courts. Natives accepted all of this while at the same time shut down cultural people the oral historians. Because these oral historians were deemed unnecessary and pagan. It didn't help that the country and culture was colonized by Euro centric powers. It's didn't help that the empire of Samoa was split into 2 modern nations. The native religion was the culture vis versa and that is now gone. The true history and ancient culture of Samoa is not fully known. Ancient Samoa and modern Samoa are not the same place and it is hard to relate the 2 as 1. Because of the events of history. Amen

Samoa means Sacred Center.. and it's the center and the begining of the very first polyensians on Earth before they seperated into clans and sailed away and discovered new pacific islands like Tonga for example, they found these new islands then called it Tonga, which means South of where they came from. Others sailed North and discovered Tokelau which means North and so on and on..... There are tales and traditions in Manu'a which is American Samoa said that the two brothers fought for power and then the older brother won and claimed all Samoa for himself, so the younger brother sailed away with his clan and discovered more islands with the promise that he will come back one day and took everything from his brother... so even tho that he wasn't live long enough to fulfill his promise but his decendants did it and fulfilled his prosmise.. they slaved Samoa for 300 years until the New chosen one has born and defeated the Tongan King or Tui Tonga Talaifeii and his dogs.. from that moment on the new king of Samoa has been found and his name was Malietoa which means "Im begging you warrior" spare me, im too pussy to continue this fight.. so he swam back to Tonga. Make no mistake cause this Tuitonga did arrived back to Tonga by swimming safely to tell the story cause his decendants the Tongan royal family knew this same story.... I asked the late King Malietoa II when he was alive if he ever talk about this or mentioned it with the Tongan King Tāufaʻāhau Tupou IV during his visits and he said yes the Tongan King never likes to talk about it..
when King Tāufaʻāhau Tupou IV visted Samoa back in the 90s he asked Malietoa a question while they're on their way from the airport to Apia, he said why your people aren't bowed down to their king they're just waving the hands at us and Malietoa smiled and replied, My friend everyone in my country are Kings and Queens from birth..

It's amazing how pigeon holed mainstream archaeology is when confronting sites that don't fit the paradigm. Hypothesizing that the mound was for religious purposes is the main non-answer they always fall back on first then of course it's a burial chamber just like the great pyramid is NOT. To suppose that the ancients put this kind of extraordinary effort into building an 'observation tower' is beyond laughably ridiculous. It's a sad effort by those in the industry to force outlying facts into their incorrect, career supporting views.

Increasingly, I believe that the Earth is stuck in a timeline zone where anomalies in the space time continuum across the multiverse, has structures from thousands of years ago of other civilizations of other timelines, time shifting into Earth's reality. It's why we have megaliths built by civilizations we have no evidence of, and likely why dinosaurs also died off as well.

Sorry my Samoan neighbor I never want to interfere with ya'll history but since some keyboard scholars of Samoan decent is jumping on my history I am interfering now lol.
The Pulemelei case indicated that a previously utilized site was
chosen to build a large mound around the 12th-13th century. The
slabs on edge making up a sort of outline frame of the structure were detected
at the bottom layer. This could indicate that this is the work of Tongans,
and thus equivalent to the stone work making up the langi structures.
However, at Pulemelei the slabs on edge were of basalt stone and the
langi stones are mainly of beach rock. The platform/mound at the
bottom at Pulemelei which was detected by the use of geophysical
analysis, should not be ruled out as containing a potential burial vault.
This could tie Pulemelei to the langi tradition but so far no direct
evidence confirms this (Clark and Biran 2007). Excavation at the so
called “Tongan wall” a kilometre up-hill from Pulemelei by us in 2004
(Martinsson-Wallin et al. 2007: 57) indicates that this feature is
contemporary with or even slightly older than the initial Pulemelei
platform. This could point to a Tongan connection but alternative
interpretations could also explain the name of the wall.
The current research shows that there are two main types of large
mound; the irregular pigeon snaring mounds (tia seu lupe) usually at
inland locations, and probably dating within the last 300-500 years; and
large scale truncated mounds making up high raised platforms with
slanting sides with dates going back 700-900 years. The former, with
slight differences in outline and shape but similar use, exists on various
islands in West Polynesia, especially in Tonga, Independent Samoa and
American Samoa and are tied to the chiefly sport of pigeon hunting.
Large truncated mounds exist as chiefly burial mounds, langi, in Tonga
and a few other large scale mounds found on other West Polynesian
islands usually related to chiefly power. The largest two are found in
Independent Samoa and are almost non-existent in American Samoa.
Archaeological investigations to date place initial building of larger
mounds to 700-900 years ago and it is not unlikely that this coincides
with the expansion of Tongan rule and population increases at certain
productive or in other ways important sites in Samoa. A population
increase usually influences the emergence of hierarchies and a more
    complex society

Are these the names of a person or family lineage? like so many other people, a "name" or term given to them by someone, or something they were referred to. Far as I'm concerned, they were built by people. I want to know about the people who built them more than I care what you call them. If they were my direct family I guess I would care. For me it's not so much who the people were who (labored) built them, as is who the actual people/persons who had the technology/knowledge to have them built. And the reason why.

In the modern Samoan language, Pule means '' boss, owned by, ruled by or belong to'' Mele'i is a piece of stick about 1.2metres long sharpenned on the upper end & stuck to the ground at an angle and used for peeling off the outer thick bark of the coconut fruit to reveal it's hard casing that contains the beautiful health nutritious kernal. Interestingly, if the apostrophe between the last "e" and the "i" is removed from Melei then Pulemelei sounds more genuine as an ancient monument name from the past. Melei is a person's name or tribe name??? Some people who claim to be qualified scientifically on the subject who examine these artifects can create false evaluations from their own personal reasonings. Guess work is the bad enemy here. Not their fault really. The ever-present ignorance of human frailty is always there in examining things we find that we cannot explain where, why and how they exist. Best to leave them untouched.
