Cylinder bore material has no bearing on the coating selection. Almost all engines with the exception of Top Fuel receive our "Slick+ CC" piston skirt coating. Other factors outlined in the video come into play when it comes to determining the Target Coating Thickness (TCT).
We can coat the ring land area of the piston, most recently done at the request of an NHRA Pro Stock team. Another application is in "stroker motor" engine platforms. The coating does add more stability to the piston above what the skirt coating alone provides. Coating the top end adds cost as the lands are coated separately from the skirts and require special masking to keep the coating out of the ring grooves.
