Oh wow! Thank you for changing out that red colored Toyota emblem on the grill back to a black colored one. The red one looked really cheesy. Also, no one from Toyota is calling the composite fiber board under the engine a “skid plate”. I suppose it is to keep the rain, pebbles, small road debris, etc. from hitting the oil pan and the other parts it protects. When I get my new 2024 TRD Off road Tacoma in two weeks I’ll ask the people at the dealership what is the function of the composite plate. It has one on the TRD Off Road model as well as the TRD Sport.
You'll be impressed w/ the RCI quality & design. Yes, it is a bit heavy & unwieldy, but it's much larger than the OEM felt composite non-skidplate. It'll have access to oil & filter change, but you'll want to add a Fumoco valve to the drain port since it's high up from the skid plate. Too bad Toyota went so cheapo w/o even including the cross member.
Hey Rob I was able to get a TRD skid plate under $400 and only $12 shipping from a dealer in Rhode Island. Got the cross member from RCI for the same price as you did
Great video Rob. So with this new 60 lb.- ish skidplate, does it have to be removed everytime you do an oil change? I’m guessing there have to be some access holes for the filter and plug.
One of the first things I did when I bought my Tacoma was to remove that ugly chin spoiler. You are correct when you talk about the insignificant increase in gas mileage. Several studies have shown a .7 increase in gas mileage. Not enough to be of any concern. As far as the whistling sound, yes, I am hearing that.
The OEM skid is a space age fiber designed by NUSA composed of a high density fire proof material. In addition it will repel rocks, bullets, and explosive land mines, yet light weight for easy removal with each oil change. It's a mechanics dream.🤐
In my opinion, that was a waste of money. You don't do any offloading so what you have should be fine. I have a 24 TRD Offroad and mine is hard plastic. Totally ok with that since i don't off road either. It's your money.😂
If you compare the total costs & $aving on skid plate ordered then adding Tuff Skins lettering rather than purchasing TRD skid plate you might have saved a Benjamin ??
I'm just going to keep the stock skid plates on mine the tacoma TRD off-road has 2 skid plates on front it's just so much easier to change your oil with lighter skid plates
Ok, watch the rest of the video and my opinion still stands. Toyata did not cheap out on the skid plate. You have a Sport, not an offroad or the pro, so your equipped with the needs of a sport. You don't need a heavy skid plate with a Sport, especially that truck as it will never see any offroad . My 24 Offroad came with no chin plate and hard plastic skid plate. I'm happy with that. I live in Rhode Island so it will be fine in the snow. I don't plan on doing any off road with this. The most you'll experience will be some pebbles and small rocks and your skid plate should be more than enough. Like I said, it's your money

Nope, it’s still red👍

Very nice👍👍
I loved my Tacoma 2019 SR5--miss it. I wish I could find a skid plate for a 2019 RX 350. Your videos are awesome!
Great video Rob. So with this new 60 lb.- ish skidplate, does it have to be removed everytime you do an oil change? I’m guessing there have to be some access holes for the filter and plug.
Nope. There’s an access panel.
If the air dam fuel economy change from removing it is so important to people, then obviously they can’t afford the truck to begin with
Hey Rod, when you removed the chin strap did you tuck in that same fiber material they used in the wheel wells behinds the front clip at the bottom?
I screwed it all back the way it was.

Could that skid plate Be there more for airflow than anything else?
I doubt it. It’s actually a gravel guard I found out!

Did you watch the whole video?

Not I.

Alright, I'll watch the rest of it.
Hi rob I noticed you remove the air damper to I did on mine but I getting whistles air noise will you get that to?
I have never noticed that on mine.
So, are you gonna put TRD over the RCI cutouts, if not where then?
Nowhere at the moment. You really can't see it.
You should paint trd on the new one in super sonic red that would look good!
The angle is such that you couldn’t see it.
@RobMotive That might be but it would still look good.
Toyota now building wastewood skidplates...Toyota quality is now a thing of the past...sadly😢
I don’t know what you mean by “waste wood”?
chips ground ..glue added...into mold ..wallaa
But it’s not wood?
@@RobMotive shur it's scrap plastic and maybe mixed with fillers..cheap and chinsy as hell..Quality? NOT
So what you're saying is that it is a skid plate in name only.
Apparently it’s really called a gravel guard!
That plate look rusty allready😮
Not sure what you’re looking at?

Like they say...we all have opinions.
@@RobMotiveRight, yours and the right one.
This is an over 18 channel Justin.
My trd offroad didn't even come with the cloth like or plastic skid plate that's on this trd sport so guess "your milage may vary"
