Wow friend! You have a good stock of ebony🤭 sorry I couldn't help but notice. I would appreciate very much if you could give me the contact. I congratulate you on such a good job as always. Regards!
Derek, Thanks for mentioning/listing the time it took when sanding. For those of us who've never done this before it can be difficult to judge if things are going as planned, especially with something as simple as sanding the top's finish as we progress through the process and dyes. Your videos are like a series of Master Classes for these processes. As I sit here in my armchair I'd like to add that you make it look ridiculously easy. Once I moved to the bench and enter into the real world the reality of simple mistakes becomes shockingly clear. Again, thank you for these videos.
This is where I've been coming to learn all the fine points of finish. I like Brad Anchovy's channel a lot for finish too, he's really good with techniques, but like you said, this is the master class.
Thank You for the Angelus Dye tip this stuff fr outdoes the stewmac dye and the colors are better $25.70 for 2 ounces of Stewmac vs $3.58 for 3 ounces no brainer.
So amazing, D! I like the imperfect or inclusions in the wood, adds to the character and makes it unique. You HAVE to talk about this velvet oil you're using though, is it similar to Tru Oil or something different?
To me the imperfections in the maple top wood-grain look like Mineral Deposits. In some examples the mineral deposits can be very attractive, but now always so. Either way the deposits add character to the wood while making it very unique or individual.
Every time, I'm watching and he gets done with finish and I'm like, "Uh...." and then he hits it with sanding sealer and its like "Shazam!". Never gets old.
Hi, just a couple of simple questions, if I do a burst on the front and back of a hollow body how much dye do you think that would use (like in ounces I guess, the bottles are 3 ounces) ? Also, does it have to be the leather dyes or do the Angelus suede dyes do basically the same thing? Thanks! Great video!
Quick question...can you use Tru-Oil instead of the velvet oil on this stain finish? I know I can with water based acrylic paint. I’m very new to this. Thanks 😊🎶
Every, single, time, I say, man that is way too dark, and then it just pops at the end. Again, way too much brown, but then the end result is fantastic. Nice work as always Big D.
This is the second video I’m watching you made, I’m in the process of grain filling a swamp ash body right now and you’re giving me lots of great ideas, thanks man 🤙
Hey Derek, thanks for this and all the other staining vids! I shot you an email via your site about Angelus colors and ordering - check it out when you get a chance. And thanks!
sorry for the dumb question. are leather dyes water based? trying to do my first kit as a two tone sunburst and looking for a good quality stain. thanks!
I have a question, I would like to dye my guitar this way but is grain in strictly vertical versus the horizontal one in this video. Will it look good or does the grain have to be horizontal?
hey thanks for your videos bro i have a question, it make a different if i yse water or oil finish? like polyturene with oil or water based? i see you are using velvet oil so i guess i can use polyturane oil base finish right? thanks so much !
As a hand. Made knife maker and sheath maker , I have used leather dies for many stains and like then using these dies with some cloth you can set the die with vinegar
Hey, D, just want to confirm something: the Angelus stains will just scrape right back off the binding? I don't need to cover it with anything before I apply them?
Howdy to a fellow Tennessean! Great video! Inspiring! Would the 3oz bottles of dye be enough to do a single guitar? It'd be great if you could add a materials list to the description on what to purchase from Angelus to achieve the same look you've created. Fair winds and following seas to all.
Hello there, can Angeles dyes be applied with alcohol or denatured alcohol so it could be thinned out a little bit to help protect you from going on too dark the first time around? Also would using a tinted lacquer give you a different effect over a plain Maple top. I'm wanting to use a red to come close to a translucent Gibson style color. Nice work as well! Thanks in advance.

Wow oh Freaking WOW did that grain pop after the second sealer coat!
Great Job Sir.

All this talk about bratwurst is making me hungry.

17:22 is when the real magic happens. Damn that looks good.

Holy Mackerel! I just realized that’s a pallet of fretboards behind the guitar when you are spraying.
Any lucky dog t shirts available?
the bridge pickup hole mouth and those eyes made a face at me....
Fantastic !! It really came alive !!
Top Notch .
That is beautiful, I'm not sure if you're planning to do a followup video completing this project, but I'd love to see it.
I will once I get the neck going.
Beautiful!!! Before rhe sealer and steelwool, I could not tell how it would turn out. How do you judge the colors so well?!!
its a nice piece of wood deep figure.

Is sanding back possible on a veneer top?
holey crap does that look awesome!!

The scrape off easily. I have taped before to make it easier as well
Are you using the Angelus yellow leather dye? I love how vivid your colours are!
You have done a few stain vids lately, are you listing these bodies?
Howdy to a fellow Tennessean! Great video! Inspiring! Would the 3oz bottles of dye be enough to do a single guitar? It'd be great if you could add a materials list to the description on what to purchase from Angelus to achieve the same look you've created.
Fair winds and following seas to all.
Yes 3oz bottles will go really far!!! I use the bigger bottles because I stain a lot.
Really nice.
Thanks for the tutorials.

I know!
Beautiful finish great job! Thanks for your videos!
That is simply beautiful. Magnificent! That is fire !
I love that color combination!!!! You used what oil to finish it?
What type of dye is it? Like aniline dyes?
alcohol based
The color blend is perfictly fine to me I was wondering and look at it now I'm enjoying this
That's gorgeous! My phone screen did not reveal the "curl." Excellent. 🎵
thanks!
It takes a lot of work (and skill) to make it look that simple and perfect..... Nice one
There doesn't seem to be any point trying to get any color of Angelus dye, since they are sold of everything. Oh well...
I just talked to them. They have the 3oz bottles that’s all you need
That color is killer. I can imagine a "Diablo" stain job on that. A blood red in place of that red you have on that one. Beautiful work D
Diablo is a great name for a stain!
Great video - that's outstandingly beautiful!
That came out beautifully once coated at the end.
You have great taste in guitar finishes. And you get the recipes right all the time.
Thanks for sharing your great guitar coloring work.
great work as always! Is this one going up for sale on your website?
Looks sweet!
thanks!
Wow! Stunning burst👍👍👍
That’s Gorgeous Man
Looks great !
Thank you! Cheers!
Wow D, that really turned out nice!
good job even out that top...it looks stunning, great upload, thanks!
surprised it came out so even.
Another good show
Why sanding sealer and not a poly clear coat from a can ? I can’t find can sanding sealer from a can where I am.
you can use poly clear. but you have to spray a lot of light coats
@@bigdguitars Thanks man.
That was kooooooool
Sweet thanks
Nice!!!
Beautiful!
AWESOME
Beautiful results!
Stunning!
Great job as always derek !! :)
thanks buddy!
