Fantastic Derek, thank you again for sharing your knowledge and providing some inspiration. I have a quick finish question concerning a figured roasted Ash body, I reached out to you through email.
great video, I have a couple questions about time. how long did you let it sit after the steel wool before the sanding sealer, and then how long after the sanding sealer before the tru oil? thanks! I'm about to do my first angelus dye job on a guitar that I had to redo because I had issues with the dye that I used and had to sand it all off. would hate to mess it up again.
I am watching almost all of your video's.... can you perhaps give me an email address please...I recently bought a Harley Benton DIY CST -24 kit... and would like to ask you some questions and send some photos before I start with my project ...and before I mess things up...thanks
Do you have any videos on staining and sealing mahogany bodies like the LP Jr? Looking at a Precision kit that I want to build, but want a natural or stained finish, not painted. Thanks
Derek, I think I will try this on a test piece for the one piece bass, dark to light to dark fade effect, to highlight the junction! This one is gorgeous, and I have all those colors on hand!! Thanks for all the inspiration and education, from you branch of the RUclips University of Knowledge.
I’m doing my very 1st guitar/wood project. Les Paul kit with flame veneer. Color is jade green. My question is grain filler. Use or no? Was thinking black grain filler then sanding back and going over with jade. Using same brand dye ironically. Wow a bourbon stain. That’s stunning.
I’m going to try this with a green burst with the angelus green and black dyes this weekend. Super nervous as I’ve never done a burst and you make it look so easy lol. Going to watch through this a few times and hopefully it works out!
This could have been finished after the single yellow coat and it would have been perfect! You found a way to make it more perfect-er making it a burst. I’m studying your videos and planning on trying this on a kit I purchased. I have a question, though. My kit has a flame maple veneer and is shipped with a coat of sealer on it. How can I tell if I have sanded off the sealer? The dye won’t take if it is sealed and I don’t wanna sand through the veneer. Any tips? #BigFan
I'm not a sunburst fan, but that's sexy!! I like how you matched the flaming all curved like that!! That's super unique, normally you always get the typical Tiger striped matching.
I feel like maybe you could move away from telecaster shapes? You have so much talent but I worry you won’t get the audience you deserve because of the focus on tele shapes
Stained my first ever build with these dyes yesterday. Just one solid color since I am learning. It came out a blotchy mess, I have been steel wooling and sanding today trying to even it out to make it look decent. What in the heck did I do wrong?
This is beautiful. Reminds me of one of the new revstar guitar colors. Can you show how to fade these colors from one side to another like in the revstar.
I was like, NOOOO! when you went to the black. But I was wrong. You are the master of Staining! Beautiful result. I was wondering what red would look like if added?
same! I thought he was about to ruin the stain with that black until he did the steel wool. My guess is, the wood was already saturated with yellow, orange and brown, so when he applied the black, most of it actually just sat on top of the wood, so that's why it came off at the end.

The Mohawk sanding sealer is not available in the Netherlands, do you maybe know another common equivalent for the sealer?

Thanks
If I wanted to use yellow, but have the yellow not be as bright... Would I add water? Rubbing alcohol? How does one thin it out?
Do you have kind of clear paint as the last thing you do ? Love that Lemon 👍 Will any leather dye do the mission / ???
how long should I wait for the dye to cure fully and not run off on my hands until going over with the sealer? and can the sealer be wipe on
Hoooooollllyyyy cow that's a gorgeous finish. DANG
How do you reduce the depth of penetration of the Angelus dye? Is that even possible?
Hi ,I’m your fan since a while, wanna ask you a question that angulas dyes that you used is for the leather ?
Hi, do you use the dye straight from the bottle or do you dilute it? If so, what do you use to dilute; alcohol?
Love your work! Great stuff! Thank you for sharing your work with us. I've learn quite a bit from you. Thank you!
I'm glad you used these colors on this! This is probably in my top 3 all time favorite ones you have done Derek! Nice job!
Totally Awesome Here

That would be killer, Spike! Can't wait to see how it comes out!
@@jeffreyeagen4896 no doubt about to go live and test
paints on what basis? acrylic or water?
Can you use regular wood stain?
That back looks good enough to be a front!

This video should be compulsory viewing for anyone wanting to stain guitars. Just put an order in for a bunch of the angelus stains!
You always seem to know when I want a new guitar but am cash poor!!! Beautiful build😩😩😩😩
What's your opinion on Verathane oil based quick drying stains? Avoid?
That's a magnificent burst... A bit like bourbon, but the yellow just jumps out!

Derek, really like the burst, the K.H. top again is outstanding - thanks for the video - Cheers from Canada
D- amazing job. Do you ever sand the sanding sealer before your final finish?
Thanks for sharing this one. I think I just found the path I want to follow on my current build. Been enjoying all your videos for a while.
Beautiful ❤️😎🎸📽

And it's mine! Great job on this one. I've got a nice roasted maple neck for it.
Nice looking guitar body. The oil really brought out the redder tones in the back stunning.
looks stunning, it has that golden amber look similar to some koa top guitars
Just learned something new- again! You continue to be an amazing guide thank you!
RUclips’s Master Luthier!!
thanks!
You truly are a master of staining. This looks spectacular.
That came out fantastic, frigin artist.
A burst is a burst is a burst is a burst. Do a lemon burst! I think you did one already but it didn't look right?
I will do a lemon burst for you!
Yeah that came out awesome !!
That is stellar
That body is insane! You really set it on fire. Dashing!
thanks buddy hope all is well.
I would have liked to see you do all 3 of those colors in a dragon's breath theme.
haha. yea I could have done a dragon here.
this really turned out beautiful,i love it.
you buy that house yet?
@@bigdguitars no dude, the deal fell through,we had to renew our lease
Could a person skip the oil and stop after applying the 4-5 coats of sealer without having any bleed through issues? Thanks in advance.
yea you can apply sealer and leave it. it does need something a little more though in terms of a coat.
@@bigdguitars Beautiful looking work on this one by the way!
Beautiful work, Big D.
That looks great!
Awesome video man!
Another awesome job Derek
beautiful dude!

yes! less saturation.
red wouldn't let the yellow shine through as much and would make the outside a lot darker.
Absolutely beautiful!
Looks fantastic!
That is amazing looking.
thank you
This is absolutely stunning Derek! Absolute beautie!
