Acer Predator Orion 3000 teardown and upgrade SSD, HDD, RAM, GPU, and CPU
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 9 фев 2025
- My model: Predator P03-640, manufactured in October 2022
Specs:
Intel Core i5-12400F
NVIDIA RTX 3060
16GB DDR4 (8x2)
1TB NVMe SSD
These upgrades, beside the mechanical HDD, are just simulation by installing the same components back again.
Thanks, had issues removing this GPU but luckily it seems to have been 1:1.
How can i remove the Front to Switch fan
how do i fix if my front fan is not spinning, it's also really dusty and I want to clean it
Me too
Did you manage to remove the front panel?
@@ValefarSoulslayerI did man it’s kinda easy you have to unplug the led light from the inside then it will just unclip kinda

Dude .Since I'm not a pc expert this will really help when I'm getting a new CPU and Ssd card.I was worried I wouldn't know how to do it or I'd break something.Definetly comming back soon
This is not a tear down full one you did not even remove the motherboard or any of the case fans etc.
hey sorry - looking for my first upgrade (SSD - Samsung 970 EVO Plus) my model is a p03 600 is that compatible?
Great video btw I am just new with upgrades :)
planning to build a new pc with the cpu and gpu from my predator, useful video, ty!
Glad I could help!
Hey man, do you know where I can buy a SATA power cable like the one shown in this video at 3:22 . I have almost identical Orion but it instead came with an NVMe; I have looked around for that specific cable for a few hours now and just can't seem to find it from a UK retailer.

Hi, this is very helpful. I'm just curious, I have a lot of issues with being able to access the front fan. How do you remove the front cover to access it and clean it?
Do you found a way to Open the Front? I have the Same Problem
There are screws on the inside holding the Headset stand. Take that out and then you can pop it open :) @@janekn10

No problem 👍

I cant figure out how to take the front panel off, can you make a video on that?

hey, running a po3-640(same case as you) with a 12700f and a 3070, do you think i'd run into issues upgrading to a 4070? the gpu i got my eyes on has a 1x 8 pin power connector(my 3070 is using a 1x 8 and 1x 6 pin), peak power consumption is about 20 watts lower than the 3070 and the measurements are fine so it will fit in my case. the thing i am most afraid of is issues with bios/drivers
Should be no issues as long as physical measurements are a fit.
Hey! I have to say, this is probably the most helpful video I've found on this PC, great job. Could you please tell me if it is necessary to remove the GPU before installing a SSD M.2 in the slot in the top right corner? And if I were to buy additional RAM does it have to be also 8 GB and the same model or can I go with something else?
Hi thank you!
No you do not need to remove the GPU before installing into the top right M.2 slot.
And no, you should be able to mix and match RAM of different capacity, manufacturer, and speed. As long as it's DDR4. All your sticks will be clocked at the speed of the slowest stick.
@@ComputerizedCanada
Thank you so much.
I have just one more question I think. Does it make a huge difference if the SSD M.2 PCI was 3.0 instead of 4.0?
@@Lolek24 I don't think you can notice the difference in everyday usage.
@@ComputerizedCanada thanks

Do you know whether the SSD M.2 screw is somewhere in the PC, does it come with the SSD or do I have to buy it additionally?
Nice Video do u know if it possible to build a Archer TX3000E in it ?
How long are the PSU cables? Are they long enough to fit into a larger case?
Thank you for this video! I really wanted to see if removing the GPU and CPU was possible since I’m looking to move the components to a custom PC in a few months time. I’ve had it up to here with these prebuilt PC’s and their poor upgradability. I want to eventually upgrade the GPU to a 3080 or higher but a 500W PSU won’t be enough.
Yes a 500W PSU will cause your system to shutdown on high loads while using a 3080. I tried ;-) with a fire distinguisher on the side.
I got the same thing but its a 2060 super does that change much?
Which SSD do you install in it ? I bought pc and it’s just not too much to begin with with
I wish you did also predator 5000 and 7000 series teardown. There is literally zero videos about them being taken apart or updated.
Thanks for the request. I've noted it down in case I see a good deal on them I will get them.
@@ComputerizedCanadaI just bought the 5000 (it came in yesterday) it’s currently on sale on Best Buy for a great deal
I want to add a second m.2 drive to mine but the pc didn’t come with extra screws and I know m.2 drives don’t normally ship with screws. What type of screw should I use that will work?

I found a store that sells this PC for €999.
Unlike others who still have it at a price that varies between €1400/1600.
Can it currently be considered a still valid machine for non-extreme and professional GAMING?
How do you find using it?

Hey love the video and great advice, do you have any advice on upgrading the cooler at all as I’ve seen a lot of issues with cooling from some people online.
Hi, thanks for watching.
I have not done it myself but I believe a tower cooler can be used as long as it is not too tall and you can still close the side panel. The tricky part is that you may need to take the motherboard out to get access to the metal mounting plate on the other side.
Yep literally doing this rn, you gotta take the motherboard off 😢
I used a noctua NF-A9 with Noctua CPU fan and exhaust as the original is terrible at cooling and loud!
Not only did it lower temps by overt 20 c, the system was much much quieter.
@@kayboo5835 can you share the link of the exact cooler that you used?
@moonsekha6215 Noctua NH-U9S, I got the black version. You do not need to take the back plate off the original motherboard as you can use the existing bracket just as long as you get four M3 x 10mm screws when installing the CPU bracket. Smooth sailing from there and enjoy a 20 degree + decrease in temps with no throttling even during long gaming sessions. I also used the above mentioned fan on my previous post which replaced the original Acer one. I also used the steel side panel for that added ventilation instead of the glass one. Overall, you not only get better temps but the system is substantially quieter. Here's a link to someone installing the same cooler, enjoy!

Hi! i am wondering how the front panel is removed?
Yes you can remove it.
But how? I need to clean the fan
Hey, i cant seem to get the m.2 out of its slot because of the sticky block at the bottom, how can i take it out?
I just ordered this model: PO3-650-UB92 - looks like a similar build but the CPU is an i7 and the video card is different. Otherwise, I "think" the same.
It says it has 2 HDD slots available and 1 x M.2 (1 x PCIe 4.0) - I assume the other slots are taken (total: 1 x PCIe 4.0 x16
3 x M.2 (2 x PCIe 4.0) --
Can I put SATA SSD drives in the 3.5" bays, or can they only accept HDD storage?
I'm going to use this machine for video and photo editing. I plan to leave the pre-installed SSD at the boot drive. I will add one SSD for the scratch/work disk, and then I need two storage drives, so I would like to have one large HDD 14 TB or more (depends on the sale of the week) and another SSD drive as a backup scratch and a place to store finished videos that I plan to show for jobs. Is this possible, or will I need to just expect to HDDs?
Thanks!
SATA SSD will 100% work as well.
I've got the same configuration of it but I want to know if we can change i5 12400f with i7 12700f ?
PS : anything else to replace in Bios or not ? To recognize the said thing in the first question...
I haven't tried swapping into 12700F myself but I have no reason to believe it wouldn't work with a simple drop-in swap, no BIOS update required.
What screws do I need to install a second SSD
can I expand my RAM to 4800mhz 32gb with 2x16gb? i tried 5600mhz 32gb but didnt work. And also add 2TB in my 2nd SSD? makes it 3TB in total including my 1TB in my SSD 1.I have Acer Predator Orion 3000 i7 13th Gen RTX 4070
I have this and on the specs it has ddr5 so what do you mean?
if it helps anyone else, i just did 2x noctua fan replacement and my idle temps are down upwards of 25c, same with under stress.
adding more ram 100% required me to remove gpu, so keep that in mind. (it was incredibly easy)
apologies after reading and writing all of that i finally saw.... you guys have newer ones than me. LOL. good luck
Hey, good job on the videos!
Question: Do you know of any PSU upgrades for this PC? I've been looking around on the internet and can't find anything that would fit inside the case while also having the correct connectors.
Unfortunately the PSU is proprietary so I don't think you can buy an PSU upgrade elsewhere. The only thing I can think of is if you can find and 'harvest' one from another Acer Predator desktop that has a higher model GPU (like RTX 3080) and thus likely has a better PSU wattage rating. Sometimes people re-case non-proprietary components and resell their Acer/Dell/HP etc... case, power supply, and motherboard.
Gotcha, thanks for the tip :)@@ComputerizedCanada
@@ComputerizedCanadais it the connectors or the size that makes it proprietary? I’m thinking about doing a case transplant but won’t if all the parts don’t line up on a traditional case.

Good afternoon, could do with some help. What is the SATA cable you use? I'm trying to install another HDD, but the computer only comes with one. Thanks!
Hi there, it was just a standard SATA data cable. You can order something like this www.amazon.ca/Sabrent-Right-Angle-Locking-drives/dp/B08FTLXV64
If you are in Canada I can mail you one for free.
@@ComputerizedCanada Ah, okay- some people online were saying it was proprietary, but I think they were confusing the data and power cables. I'm not in Canada, but that's awfully kind of you. I've ordered one. Thanks again!
@@letsgoraiding NP.
Yes the SATA power cable is definitely proprietary on the white header where you plug into motherboard. But that power cable has two black headers on the other end supporting two drives.
Since you mentioned it came only with 'one', I assumed it was the data cable you are referring to. That one is standard yes.
I am kind of new to this PC but I was wondering if you could help me I have had my Acer for about a year now and when I plug it in it had electricity coming from the wall and the led lights come on but the fan on the side does not and it does show a up on the screen at all and I'm not sure how to fixes it and taking it to someone is not any option can you kind of lead me in the right direction on why this is happening is it the power supply or something else please help

what brand of ssd is in there
Very very cheap from samsung
what screws should i use?
Hello, how much fps would this pc get on black ops 2 and black ops 3?
How do you take out the motherboard?
I tried to add two sticks of 8Gb ram each as an upgrade, and all that happens is the pc boots up for a minute, then restarts over and over again. I’m pretty sure I’m using compatible ram. Any advice?
Try to run with just the two new sticks, or switch up the slots. Let me know how it goes.
Is it possible to change the grafik card to a 4080 on this model?😮
I don't think the PSU is powerful enough to support a 4080.
Curious can I replace the cpu fan with any fan ? Or is there a certain size
Certain size only. But many aftermarket CPU fans come with brackets that make them fit multiple different cpu socket mounting sizes.
Hi, i installed the Noctua NH-U9S, this is a tiny fan but it fits very well on this pc, i really improved cpu temperatures and noise problems as well (max 70 degrees with speed fan at minimum).
You just need to buy some specific screws to avoid bracket changes (this is the most difficult part, i found some bolts in a shop).
whats a good m.2 nvme ssd for this motherboard that it can handle, i want it to be 2tbs and its for gaming? can anyone help
How can i switch the case?
Find a case that is big and reliable
hello it's been 1 year since I have this PC I would like to change the case but apparently the components do not adapt to another motherboard for example thank you anyway
I think if you change the case you have to also throw away the motherboard and the power supply.
Thanks for your reply, I'll take note.@@ComputerizedCanada
in the manual of this pc its written that only 2600 clock speed ram is supported, but when I ran CPUZ its saying that there are 3200 onboard - ?
can anybody explain please, can buy 3200 clock speed and it'll downclock to 2600 if needed or I must adhere to 2600 otherwise it wont start ? ..

Yes you can buy faster RAM and it will down clock safely to maximum supported by CPU and motherboard.
