“Put the right people in”. Mmmmmh, the objective of gerrymandering is that you cannot put the right people in.
AIPAC do everything they can to block the right people.
Yes and no. It's designed to limit the power of who you can put in but someone still goes in and they still DO get a plurality of the votes. So, while the game is harder, it's not unwinnable if you have enough people on your side to change the system. But it's going to take some true bipartisan power to do it. Or at the very least a coalition of the willing that extends beyond one party.
The truth is the country isn't functional without either two parties who can agree on something or one party + a lot of independents who can agree on something. Ie. The battles have to be picked carefully and the alliances built brick-by-brick with other groups. Maybe after some of those smaller alliances are successful it can help bridge some of the divides but that will take time (decades).

Unfortunately in this country it's a money making machine. The amount of money these candidates spend on ads is astronomical! The political system here is so darn complicated. The person who gets the most vote in the presidential election unfortunately doesn't always win. The electoral college needs to be dismantled imo.

I'm an independent, and the way she doesn't seem to know much about Biden's accomplishments is even more disappointing than when democrats don't know because Dems step in line too. I expect most of my fellow independents to be keen on bipartisanship by this point, and Biden's been good at keeping his policies down the moderate middle.

Whoopi was actually agreeing with Sarah in the sense that we continue to elect people who only have their own interest in mind and never the society as whole. Sarah is right that the Democrats had two chance to codify Roe and didn't. Even President Obama didn't do it because they believed that the precedent would stand on principle and integrity, so there was no need to do anything.
But all it took was some clowns to be in a position of power where they could use it to insure that the other part of population would be endeared to them to reverse Roe and send it to the states, knowing that the Southern States had trigger laws at the ready. Why do you think Trump said he was going to leave it to the States?
Because he's not stupid enough to actually ban abortion federally because some of the elites wouldn't have access to it anymore.
That's where Whoopi's comment comes in. Gerrymandering has always been a mostly beneficial weapon to the Republicans to redraw district maps in their favor. The Democrats have also done this, but not to this extent as the Republicans. The Republicans have disenfranchised entire sections of a community just to get into power with gerrymandering. Again, people who were in positions to stop this process so everyone had a say in elections did nothing to stop it and when the practice became obvious that it was being abused, it was almost too late to stop it. And it hasn't been completely stopped, just slowed down.

We should be looking for bipartisan candidates, not just right vs left.
