- More than a kilometer deep beneath the coldness of The Lost River lies one of the most inhospitable places in Subnautica. Pressure is high enough to crush non-upgraded vehicles and even bases with insufficient reinforcements and temperature is so high that it literally cooks surface creatures alive and even the player's character should he not wear the Reinforced Dive Suit. Among the many skeletons of Reaper Leviathans roam the very creatures that ate them: the Sea Dragon Leviathans. These will not hesitate to attack anything that enters their territory and unlike their surface counterparts they do not need to be in close proximity to attack.

They periodically have speedups in their movement. Makes them more unpredictable. I was kinda shocked too.
It's a lunge attack. Just about every aggressive fauna has one.
Plus it's the fastest creature in the game.

This base is amazing when I did build a base near a seadragon it was in the lava lakes but this looks a lot better near the lava castle

What's the difference between the lava lakes and the Castle?
Lava castle is where you find the architect thermal plant and the lava lakes is the place where you find the architect structure with the sea emperor.
I think I've gotta get a base in the lakes for the story to get a bit easier

I have found out that apparently your cyclops can fit in the lava zone. Bad thing is, you might not get it back afterwards. (Mine now belongs to Jerry, which is what I named the sea dragon)
It’s fairly easy to get it out. You really just need to keep an eye on the radar, and hit the shield generator before the Sea Dragon hits, the deactivate it, otherwise it’ll chew your battery.
I took mine all the way to the pcf. Exiting the lava zone was easy, far easier than trying to come out of the lost river through the grand reef exit (was a bit like that scene in the star wars family guy episode when they're moving the couch out of the trash compactor). The Sea Dragon really is pretty passive for the most part.
So THAT is his name.

When I first got there I was SO terrified of that thing; its screams scared the shit out of me. Strange how that's all psychological fear because none of the leviathans pose a real threat (if you're in a vehicle)..

I'll stop you right there. There are sections of the map where I wouldn't venture even in a Prawn Suit. Got any plans to be gunked by a reaper dragging you all the way to another one nearby? 'Cuz I friggin' don't! 😂
For me Leviathans are threats only when piloting the Cyclops, since it's so slow and large. Especially Ghost Leviathans if they catch you by surprise.

@@akeemsam The cyclops is pretty much invincible with the invulnerability shield, enhanced hull modifications, radar and decoys tho :)
Sometimes I forget how atmospheric Subnautica can be. I don't actually have the game myself, but I've watched enough to see the wonderous beauty of every biome.
Nevertheless, excellent job on the base! 😊
Go get the game if you can, its really atmospheric and it has beautiful grafics.

Very well thought out, you build the base directly in his swimming path. I was also motivated to build a very small sea dragon observatory after seeing it one of your videos comments, but my mind immediatly jumped to the activa lava zone. Your idea was much better though.

this guy seems to love building lovely bases in the most god-forsaken of locations
You can tell from the Sea Dragon's behaviour that it must have been REALLY difficult to program navigation and collision for a creature of that sheer size in the environment it inhabits. Most of the creature's body has no collision whatsoever, which you can see when it sometimes phases right through the walls. I imagine they mist have had one point in dev where they tried to give it full collision but it made it impossible for it to move around properly?
Fun fact: we were meant to be BIGGER.
Unfortunately that plan backfired cause nobody knew the size we were meant to be, So we remain as this glitched size.

I wound up building a small outpost at the base of the chasm leading directly to the lava castle (the one with a ghostie swimming above it). I had NO idea what to expect, but I thought that I wasn't far enough into the biome that anything would aggro onto me.
I was wrong. Swam down to grab some keynote after finishing up my scanner room, and I hear a terrifyingly loud and CLOSE roar. I about-face and boom; there one is. He somehow wedged himself through the hole leading to the lava castle and clipped into the side of the cliffs. He didn't reset until I restarted my game.
I named him Fred. He was pretty chill most of the time. 🤷🏽♀️
We have too many leviathans named here..

the video showcases the leviathan that I found relatively OK on the scare level, but the god damn warper right below it is off the chart when you're just casually cruising past it inside of your safe cyclops through the leviathan zone, and then all of a sudden you're warped out of it and you're stranded in open water and you don't know what just happened and you see this gigantic thing approaching you.
You're safe inside the Cyclops though 😉

For anyone curious and just so you can get a nightmare-inducing mental image of just how large the Sea Dragon is, they're about 117 meters which is just ever so slightly larger than the Monsterverse Godzilla. Come to think of think, I'm surprised no one has tried to mod him in yet.

I love how this is technically beneath one of the THE most peaceful biomes ever; also the roar is so loud I have to mute it when I play on my own console! this thing is LOUD! On the bright side....YA ALWAYS KNOW HE'S COMIN AT'CHA! Also...it's amazing just how AGGRESSIVE this big boy is considering you're just a blip compared to his size; but you step one little FIN into his area and WHAM

I love the sound of the sea dragon. I first played this game without knowing any spoilers at all and entering the Sea Dragon’s Cathedral for the first time blew me away.
Yet it's not as scary as the other leviathans. I'm pretty sure it has everything to do with the lights in those areas.

Well, the pda says that they only go for mobile vehicles, like the seamoth, prawn, and cyclops.
@@undeadprincess5726 it says "attracted to energy sources of all kinds - avoid when piloting vehicles". It does not exclude seabases.

Press F3 and F8 and press enter or ~ and type "Fog" then go to the void, The most terrifying thing about those monsters is that THEY EAT EACHOTHER AND HURT EACHOTHER IF YOU'RE IN CREATIVE.

So.....the Sea dragon is the 'machine gun' of this game, what with the rapid fire, fireballs coming out of it.
Anyways, nice base, it's what I imagine Doom guy must rent while on a holiday retreat.

@@deweytheseadragon5100 Or one of those Roman candles you get on the 4th of July and shoot them at your friends, they back at you, only for one friend to have his shirt go up in a blaze, becuase he didn't bother to mention that he was working on his car the whole day, or do his laundry, however he gets only minors burns as the shirt basically 'blew up' and fell off quickly, and now police sirens are heard to investigate the reports of a 'fireball' in the area.

Lesson: never park your vehicle exposed, i left my cyclops for a while to enter the lava castle then return, and what i got?! The leviathan slapped my cylclops, and kaboom! My cyclops exploded Infront of my eyes

I still think the devs dropped the ball when they retconned the dragon trashing the final Degassi base, but forgot to redo the old guy's lines. My only complaint.
I mean..
This is an alien planet, If you were in a tight situation and you saw your first {Or second} reaper attacking you, You'd probably mistake "Mandibles" for tenticles, And plus, If it WERE dragons that base wouldn't be there, If it was juvenile then it wouldn't be chasing something and would likely be getting food from its mom, So yeah, It probably wasn't us.

The one irrealistic thing, which is now an answered question I had previously, is the fact that the Sea Dragon can't even damage the base. I mean, it just spits out not one, but two meteors at it, and it's still squeaky clean on the outside, not a scratch, nothing.
Hey I might have an idea for the next base. You know that entrance to the Lost River in the northern blood kelps? The one that leads to some 'forest' in the Lost River, guarded by a juvie Ghost? Yeah, that right there would be a very nice idea :) (just sayin'!)
That's where i built a base, right where you described.
It was attacking my lava lizzard aquarium. Here is one fun fact though: at first I put some small fish in it and once the Dragon did it's lava meteor on my base I checked the aquarium. Most of the fish was dead and cooked. 😢
Has anybody ever died being tag-teamed by a Warper and a Sea Dragon or one of the other aggressive Leviathans? It’s never happened to me but I’ve always been afraid of it happening because it seems plausible to me. Just get warped out of your vehicle at the wrong moment and land directly in front of the Leviathan for the insta-kill.

Our base (AKA LAB) must be 10-7x layer thick to make sure the pressures didn't press in.

I think the reason sea dragons are so much less scary than reapers is the way they move. With reapers they’re fast and they make snappy turns, whereas the sea dragon is quite slow and its movements are very slow and telegraphed. They pose less of a threat because they’re so much easier to predict and evade.
