I did not expect the transfuser to still work after all this time. So that was a huge surprise! I do want to make a note, The concept art for Project M is technically not Subnautica related but it's made by the same people. It's safe to assume inspiration was taken from Subnautica in the design of many things. I would be VERY Surprised if it doesn't take place in the Subnautica Universe. So! About those sound concepts, What'd you think? Finally, Huge thanks to the sponsor! The Ghost Leviathan had an iconic roar that was like a shriek, the Sea Dragon's roar was iconic because it was a bit of a moan, and could be heard from really far away, and the Reaper's roar was iconic because it was so loud, and sounded so fierce and angry.

The Ice Dragon Leviathan sounds like the creature is really small. It definitely needs a much more threatening set of growls and other sound effects. Taking into consideration how massive the Ice Dragon looks, at least in the reference image in the video, it would be the size of the Sea Dragon and the Empress, which would suggest a FAR more threatening set of sounds. Perhaps it would be worth experimenting with pre-existing dragon sounds and attempting to alter them to make it sound like it were underwater. However, I would personally love to hear an almost more majestic roar. Whatever the end result, it needs more depth and vigor per se. I can't wait to see and hear the final result!

  • @Fruittopping92

For the Ancient Leviathan, I definitely feel like the "crabsquid as a leviathan" idea for the roar doesn't fit well with the head and mouth shape. That concept art of the city looks really cool and I can definitely see your links to Subnautica. I'm still a little skeptical though, the specific architecture of the buildings looks a little too "steampunk" to me. You're right, we haven't seen a normal residential or commercial area on an actual human world in the Subnautica universe yet. However, I feel like the design of the base modules and living areas you can build in the game already have a much more "clean and crisp" feel. No exposed piping and that kinda stuff. It's a stark difference to the design of the building of the concept art.
Theoretically we could be looking at a "lower class" area of the planet or city in the Subnautica universe and just not know it. It's plausible. Kinda like the lower levels of Coruscant in the Star Wars universe, where things are in disrepair or neglect.

  • @EquanoxDragon
    @EquanoxDragon 2 года назад +3

For the ancient leviathan, I think some lower more base-y undertones and deeper clicking noises that underlay the higher pitched ones would work well, and over all a sort of deep rumbling noise along side it would give it a very terifying subtone. Sounds also resembling like shuffling or shifting or even grinding from the exoskeleton adjusting would add for some great ambiance, really make this thing feel colossal, where even the smallest adjustment sounds like an earthquake to the human ear....
For the Ice Dragon leviathan, I think it for sure needs to be more reverberating and like, feel like it would vibrate your entire body, make your chest shake. I think overlaying more shrieking/rasping/throaty roars onto what is already there would give the calls a bit more meat. Over all, I like the more shriek like roar that layers up suites the Ice Dragons more sleek looking body. I think also adding in some hissing or snarling noises would work well for its style. It reminds me almost like how a big cat (panther/leapord) is so threatening as apex hunters.
Over all, I think a great way to make leviathan class creatures even scarier sounding is to add in subtones reminiscent of what some natural disatsers sound like.

For the ancient Leviathan, i think some kind of Predator esque 'clicking' sounds might work well. (Fun fact, the VA for the Predator actually got the inspiration from seeing a crab bubbling in the sunlight).
As for the Ice Dragon, i gotta say the sounds are very very underwhelming and generic, i'm not sure what kind of sound i'd expect it to make, maybe something like a cross between the Ghost and Sea dragon leviathans, but i'm not a fan of the ones presented.

K, for the titan or ancient leviathan thingy, I definitely agree with the fact that it is missing something. In my opinion, I feel that a loud screech to make it really feel like a threat, but I'm not saying completely scrap the sound they have right now, but to give it more of a rasp in the back to really make it feel like the creature is putting its heart and soul into hunting you down. For example, I think the reaper leviathan is the scariest leviathan, even though it's not the biggest, or does the most damage in the game, but because of the trauma it will invoke in new players when they first encounter one, and even then that is not the scary part, the scary part is the fact that you now know that things like that are out there, and occasionally hearing the distant screams with that all out roar is what really seals the deal for me.
TLDR: Put a rasp in the scream to make it feel more like a sincere and aggressive scream.

Also, the concept art being in orbit around what’s assumed to be 4546b and being codenamed “moonbreaker” mixed with a general low income industrial park vibe could hint that it takes place on the moon of 4546b and trying to crack through to a mineral rich core and it goes wrong, leaving you left on the moon alone in a similar situation to Subnautica

this looks amazing!!! for sound help i have a few ideas:
ancient leviathan: i LOVE the beginning but i feel like the reefback-like rumble at the end doesnt really fit in, there was a comment about clicking because of the exoskeleton and that could sound neat!
ice dragon: maybe some sharp hissing? king cobra sounds could be good inspo!
for the concept art: i dont really think that looks like what the main game could look like, maybe for cutscenes or if somehow the player(s) made it to there but it was abandoned (because i dont think that having many npcs is subnautica's thing outside of voice acting) but other than that it could just have been nothing *or* something for another game, since i think i remember that the next game will likely be a survival

Given the design of the Ancient Leviathan, I can't help but imagine keeping that deep, gutteral chittering it does, while throwing in some H.R. Geiger influence by adding a hybrid Predator-Alien style feel to it, plus keeping to a similar sound design of the crustacean creatures on the planet as well, like the crabsquids. Lots of low grumbles and groans, chittering and clicking, with a kind of hollow, low echo to it, as though it's using its own shell as a sort of Vocal sac like some Toads and monkeys do.
The concept of the creature makes me feel like it should be preying on primal and instinctual fears, like how humans have a primal fear of things that skitter while low to the ground, undulating movements, uncanny eye "movements" (some predators have this weird "reflection" of their pupil on their own eye, that makes it look it its gaze is always following you, until it actually does and you see the real pupils), and the like. This thing looks like it evolved specifically to feed on pre-electricity era Architects. And given that it's an ANCIENT Leviathan, it would make sense, since there's some hints that early Architects were very similar mentally to modern Humans.

A good thing that I think you mentioned for the ice dragon leviathan, a growl or roar, likely very deep or low tone sounding with a slight reverb would help. As for the ancient leviathan, a clicking sound for locating prey might emphasize the threat that this leviathan might pose. Many deep sea creature use some sense of sonar for dark locations. That might be a good idea, but id have to do a bit more research.

The Ice Dragon kinda reminds me of a sea horse, so maybe a higher pitched scream with more vibrato would be pretty cool. Plus, imaging hearing it literally screech at you as it comes zooming toward you faster than you’ve ever seen a leviathan move.

With the ancient leviathan, I can't help but feel its missing a form for bass that just echos in your eardrumbs basically. The kind of chill and freezing in your blood a tiger roar would produce basically. Tiger roars hit a pitch that literally tuns prey in a way as far as I understood a documentary explenation about big cats. Because I remember my encounter with the scarier things in subnautica, bigger or smaller and I remember it always produced a chill down my back akin to that.

I am happy that the ice dragon is going to be brought to life, it is absolutely one of my favorite creature designs besides the emperor and the gargantuan leviathans. Also to help you with the ice dragon sounds: I feel like it would sound a bit more metallic and booming, something like a mix between the gargantuan leviathan and indominus Rex? But in the end I'm happy that the ice dragon is going to be brought to life.

    Great video dude!
And hey Ima put this random idea out here for the Ancient Leviathan's voice clip thingy (idk what to call it and sorry):
-When hearing it, I kind of imagine the beast to be something overwhelming, or powerful in a way, and thought that there should be a bit more growl in the cry. (Like a lion's roar, but WAY more threatening)
-Even if adding the growl is a bit too much, try maybe extending it bit longer. (like maybe 1-2 seconds longer, nothing too crazy)
Overall, I can't wait on the future plans for this!!

The city picture seems like the slums or lower class region of an alterra ran planet, and if moon breaker is the next installment it likely heavily ties into the ending of below zero. The title “moonbreaker” could also quite literally be a plot point of a game either literally or metaphorically destroying a “moon”. Whatever that moon would represent

It would be so sick if they made the ancient leviathan reside in one of the cave areas, where it could like scuttle around on the walls, and even stalk you around as your travelling, and only just hearing something like a chittering before it jumps at you from an unexpected angle, and in the cyclops the whole sub would rock and throw you off the wheel

A shaky roar that does not sound close to other roars. And the ice dragon, give it a roar with something more aggressive. A roar so crisp that you bow down to it you know.

Another idea for the city near the blue planet (possibly 4546B) is that with a company come a city, let me explain. An oil plant that is extremely profitable (in this case 4546B) attracts workers, now it’s far away so builders come and build homes for the workers family to live in. Then grocery stores are built for food for the workers family, and schools for the worker’s children. Now you need teachers and homes for the teachers, and cars to get around and roads and people to build the roads. And then more home for the builders and then non essential services are formed and before you know a whole city is formed. So now of course you aren’t going to build on 4546B, instead you build on that big orange moon that kind of matches the ground in this concept art. Not to mention that colonizing a uninhabitable moon is quite easy since you have super advanced tech in the future. To sum up, i think this is a city built because the dangerous but profitable capabilities of planet of 4546B. And the devs might use this as opening setup where you meet your crew due to the new multiplayer option.

For the Ancient Leviathan it might be nice to have a deep hissing or clicking sounds, with the Ice Leviathan having a quiet call would be rather interesting. The Biter Leviathan could possibly have a “grunting” type of sound, I know that some species of fish will do that to commune with other members of their species.

I just want a simple survive-and-thrive story where we return to the basics of exploring alone, or hopefully with multiplayer, across a vast open world.
The story of Subnautica should always be secondary to the gameplay of Subnautica. The exploring and collecting. The ambiance and leviathans. Nobody wants another Beliw Zero. No one.

I have a recommendation for the creature noise!! It's a little hard to explain, but I think adding a bit of a shudder(?) sound would make them sound far more intimidating and "up-close-and-scary" vibe. I'm pretty sure the ice worm from BZ and the sea dragon from the base game make similar noises, where they have the roar, but a bit of a choppy rumble following the roar. If you listen closely to the other sounds, I think you'll hear it.

Ancient Levi should have most clicking sounds to it, I feel like that would help emphasis the carapace part. One thing that I've noticed with a lot of the Levi's is that they all sound.. similar. The pitch is all relatively in the same guttural-echo-y range. I know the screech of the Garg has some higher pitch and I'd love to hear someone have more of a shrill sound when threatened. I think the ice dragon would be a good candidate. A high pitch screech that "freezes" you to the bone in fear! (eh? EH?) But overall, I love seeing the expansion of these ideas, and can't wait to see more.

I'd actually really like to see a take on the ice dragon's sound that incorporated more of a screech or scream. I mistook what I think is the jelly ray screech in the ambient sound behind the showcase creature sounds to be a part of the Ice Dragon's call and I liked that. Think like the Ghost Leviathan but then instead of a descending sound, made it rise or like a whoop? Might not be exactly what I'd want but some creatures that I think make very good use of that whoop sound are the Boga from Star Wars III (feathered iguana dinosaur thing that Obi Wan rides on Utapau) and the Great Jagi from Monster Hunter Tri. I think that would continue to add some variety to the sounds for the big boys.
