I've loved your father since 'way back when' on HGTV. Such a charming and talented man. And your mother taking that third bite of cake! Please bring them back!
Your mom and dad look so healthy, happy and tan, Beth! Blessings to you all. I am with mom, it’s cake over candy nearly every time. Was surprised the cake had no eggs, which must be why it looked so delicate and fluffy.
I know this is a food channel, but can we take a moment to appreciate Beth’s mom’s earrings? And her perfectly positioned pinky while eating the cake? How fab is she!? 🤩
Your parents are so sweet! And your mom was cracking me up going in for third and fourth bites. 😆 I love seeing families cook together - it such a sweet time in the kitchen. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Have I been living under a rock?? I have purchased many Turtles in my day, but have never had one in the shape of a Turtle. They've always looked like a mound so could never understand why they were called that! Thanks to you Ms. B, that was a WOW moment for me🤩! And since I am keeping it real, although I know you've been told this a "jillion" times it bears repeating - you and your DAD (and Mom) totally adorbs! Both desserts totally delicious!
Ha! I know it's so hilarious these mounds of chocolate hiding the real TURTLE underneath! When they are so cute! I like them to come out of "their shell" a bit ha! So glad you enjoyed them! (and Mom and Dad!!)
I agree! What a wonderful family! Such style and warmth. Super fun to watch and learn from. Not to mention the creative talent. Love hearing your fathers beautiful elegant voice and Beth’s little giggle! Mom is delightful as well! I would love more visits from your parents as there are many of us who loved your Dads design show , etc. Merry Christmas to all of you and the Happiest of all your New Years to come!
Aww yes! It's always fun to weave in the family into these episodes! So much about the holidays, cooking and entertaining involves family! Hoping to get a few episodes shot this summer with my Sister Meg who will be joining us in France for a few days this summer! Should be fun!
What I liked best even more than the recipes, was seeing the love and laughter between you and your parents! So special and I can see where you get your sense of humor. You are so blessed to have such sweet parents!!
Such a delightful duo of Father and daughter! Love to see the family in the kitchen cooking and laughing ! Priceless! Thank you for sharing! Can’t wait to make it. Happy Holidays!
I watched your dad years ago when design shows were on tv and who would’ve thought that years later I’d be watching and so very much, enjoying his daughter’s RUclips channel. I absolutely love the two of you together. On a side note, that green sweater looks fabulous on you ❤.
Aww ya think? Thanks! So fun when people make the HGTV connection ha! Personally I would have never thought it would be ME on camera! But the food dragged me in ha!
Oh how did I miss this? Best video ever. Reminds me so much of my family in the kitchen. I bet you all had so much fun laughing and putting this video together! You should do more of these when you can! You’ll treasure these memories forever ❤️
I am so glad I didn't miss this video! How wonderful to see you and your family with this delightful challenge with two great recipes! I enjoyed every minute of watching this joyful exchange with you all! I hope we see more of your parents also because they are just so adorable with you! But Beth, I love watching you no matter what you are making. Your warmth just floods the camera and leaves your viewer with happy feelings! Thank you for this!
What a fun recipe challenge! Both look delicious, each worthy in its own place. You're so lucky to still have both your parents, Beth. They are charming!
What a wonderful family…..I love it. The dynamic duo working their magic on two great holiday recipes. The cake and chocolate turtles looked so easy to prepare. That cake is intriguing.🎄🎄🎄
Hi Beth, my mom made this cake as well and said it was called Wacky Cake. She said her mother made it during WW2 because food was rationed. I made this when I was around 10 years old as it was so easy to make. Thanks for the memories! Merry Christmas!
Omigosh! You Dad made Cockeyed Cake! We had it often when I was a kid, as my Mom was a fan of Peg Bracken and it was a quick and easy dessert. Plus she could con me into making it since I loved the "weirdness" of putting vinegar into a cake! There was also the appeal of the completely unnecessary, but totally fun instruction of combining the dry ingredients in the pan then making 3 holes and pouring the oil, vinegar and vanilla, one per hole. Then you just mixed it up and into the oven it went! Sorry, but such strong memories from my 70s childhood! I have to say that we never gussied it up quite the way your wonderful father did! Usually powdered sugar or ice cream, but no delicious almonds! Those turtles looked fabulous, too Beth! I know we made those a few times, as well. Turtles were a popular candy in the 70s and I remember my mother buying extra caramels in the fall (caramel apple season) and saving a couple of bags to make these for Christmas. No microwaves yet, so the double boiler was the only option and why your recipe doesn't mention microwaving! I remember that recipe so well because it was pretty simple but very impressive. I thought my mom was a genius until I was old enough to make them myself! Gosh, I'm running on even more than usual! 😂 So I'll just say that that was quite a spectacular showdown and a very close contest! I love the episodes where your parents make an appearance. It's so easy to see where you got your grace, beauty and talents from! Merry Christmas to you and your whole family, Beth! 💚❄️❤️🕯🎄🕯❤️❄️💚
How fun. We grew up calling that cake Whacky cake! And mom would "gussy" it up depending on the occasion. It was our go to chocolate cake! Thanks for sharing! Turtles are new to me. Both look delicious!!
Thank you Beth! Loved it all: family get-together, parents, atmosphere and recipes. Can’t wait to try both of them. What a great idea putting together family recipes with relatives. Happy holidays!
Your parents are a treasure!!! Love the friendly competition between you and your Dad!! Your Mom was in a no win position but she did her best without any losses. Both treats are win win!!!!! Season Greetings Merry Christmas from Southern Ontario Canada 🙂🍁🎅☃️🌲
Aaahhhh!! So happy to see Dad! I looked forward to this time of year and him making an appearance! The vinegar tip!! Love it! Here in TX eggs have gone from 1.89 to $6 a dozen! This is a great tip! Love your channel!!!!
Oh my goodness what fun, do you know how blessed you are love. It's my first time seeing your mom, she is gorgeous and as always your dad, well he's just as charming as ever. I just love your channel ❤. Great family time. I thoroughly enjoyed watching 👀😄☺😍😊
Great video with your mom and dad! When I first saw your dad in some of your past videos, I couldn't remember why he seemed familiar. You said he hosted the show, Dream Drives. I knew his voice was familiar. Great show! When my son was young we used to watch Dream Drives. He is now an architect and works for a firm in California but lives in Dallas, Texas. Thank you, Beth, for all your hard work and the great content you put on RUclips for us to enjoy. You are cheerful and fun to watch and you offer such great recipes and cooking & entertaining advice. I've made the chicken tortilla soup 3 times since you posted the video this fall. Great recipe! Again, thank you for all you do and Merry Christmas to you and your family.
You guys are precious! I follow your dad on Facebook and you on RUclips and love you all but particularly when you are doing family things! Christmas Blessings!
Merry Christmas to you, your Mom and Dad. I always love to watch your Christmas videos. You and your Dad make cooking look so easy and fun. Your Mom is a wonderful addition. Your Christmas videos are on par with The Andy Williams Christmas Shows from the 1960s. Clean happy fun with talented family members. Both recipes looked fantastic and easy to do. It would be hard to choose a favorite. I have two granddaughters who love to bake. I think we will have to try these beautiful recipes. 🌲
LOL! Oh you are too funny! I remember my parents had the Andy Williams 8-Track tape back when I was young which used to blast through the house at Christmas, but never saw the specials! Must have been past my bedtime! But I but my parents remember them!
How lovely to see your mom and dad . You are all truly blessed. I loved both deserts and would make both for company. Merry Christmas to you and thank you for all your hard work.
If I heard correctly that the turtle recipe was from 1971, microwave ovens were not readily available for home use at that time so the double boiler method for the caramel makes sense.
Dad won for me even before Mom came on the scene! and i didn't even taste it. . . but wish i had!!! But Beth, your shortbread recipe is one i truly treasure and make for my family every year.
This is such an enjoyable video to watch. Such a beautiful & talented family. Yes, the vinegar is such a surprise. No need to hoard if there are no eggs in the supermarket. Just make a chocolate cake & eat it for breakfast, lunch & dinner instead!😂. BTW, I made Beth’s Pots de Creme for the first time & it was so easy & delicious. I will never buy process chocolate pudding again. This French recipe is so good.
Oh Beth, this videos was the best! Your family is so precious, and you always make me feel so happy when I watch your videos. I giggled and smiled the whole time I watched it. Your Mom was so funny and sweet! I absolutely love your parents in your videos too! I think I'll try both recipes in the future! ⭐️ Merry Christmas ⭐️
I got one of those recipe boxes too when I was first married in 1972. I agree that it’s a time capsule. I remember the people who gave me each recipe. This is a terrific episode! I didn’t know how to cook, back then and the spaghetti sauce recipe didn’t say brown the meat…that was a fun dinner.
what fun. thanks for sharing your family with us. always enjoy them being included with you. loved it. Merry Christmas. hoping a great 2023 for us all!! take care. ( ;
Love both. Will make both. Thank you for sharing your recipes and most of all, your family. Merry Christmas! So happy your Mom said: “Merry Christmas “🎄!
You guys have no idea how much I love you all. Joe and Barbara you both look fabulous! Beth, you are a sweetheart! This chocoholic loves your recipes! Merry Christmas and a Wonderful new year!
So enjoyable! I knew your mom was going to go for the cake after the second bite! But the turtles look so good, I think I'd have a hard time choosing myself. Happy Holidays!
Good afternoon Beth! This video was so much fun! I always enjoy when your Daddy comes on your videos and now your Mother! I remember your Daddy from the HGTV days and enjoyed him then. But, your Mother was so delightful eating the cake. I love chocolate both cake and turtles! Thank you and Merry Christmas! 🎄💕 P.S. What do the French store their ground coffee in? Thank you!
Always such a delight having a video from you beth. I hope that you and your family are keeping well and looking forward to the Christmas holidays. Your dad is an absolute sweetheart and is so adorable. Thank you for sharing yet another awesome recipe. Xx
This is absolutely incredible. I have a box like that 🙂 family recipes and som of them written by my mom. This is really fun to see you both cooking! Happy Holidays!
Such a fun episode! Lots of smiles and yummy treats! I may try that cake today…wow, a 10/10!!! I’ll have to make a trip to the grocery before I can try the turtles…but I think 9.5 is still a phenomenal score for those little turtles!
Oh dear u make me feel sad that I lost all my old recipes &mom's 😢 when we had some bad storms &we got to leave the house for a while ! But we can do nothing about it. I'm happy though you still got yours. Cherish them please 💗
Thank you for another great recipe! Made the chocolate cake yesterday; it was super easy and one of the moistest cakes I have ever baked. You two are the best!
MERRY CHRISTMAS & am bringing your corn casserole to my sisters for Christmas Eve dinner. I have never gone wrong with any of your recipes. Also be trying your dad’s cake in the new year.
Your Dad is so charming and you together are great! The cake is a winner! So interesting to know the effect of vinegar in the mix. Have a merry Christmas!
Love all your videos ! A joy to watch ! I have tried many of your recipes and they are delicious! Thank you for your upbeat and positive videos with great tips !! Merry Christmas!!
The making of the chocolate cake was so interesting! Between the mixing in the pan and the vinegar reaction… it would be a fun « science experiment » with young ones… or older ones 😉
That was so much fun to watch God bless your parents have wishing you and your family a Happy Christmas and a very healthy New Year 2023 BLESSINGS 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
Your Dad is the best and your Mom is so cute. I’m going to make the cake and the turtles! Thank you, Beth, for your wonderful, happy videos. Merry Christmas to you all!❤❤❤
Beth, I just made your Dad's cake today - it is delicious. I had some chocolate ganache leftover from another recipe which is spread on top of the cake. Then I sprinkled toasted pecans on top of the ganache! Oh my goodness! Outstanding! Tell your Dad I didn't have any vanilla ice cream in the house!
What a beautiful couple your parents are. I will have to make the cake it just looks so delicious. The turtles are so cute will have to try them too. I have to tell you Miss Beth that your father is so talented as are you all. I have kept magazine pages of your dad’s decorating for years and years, as inspiration. There was one house in particular he designed and decorated, I could have just moved in. It was an overall neutral feel of creams but with pops of color. One of the bedrooms had a carpet of little flowers I fell in love with, a four poster bed, but it wasn’t old fashioned at all, it had a clean modern feel and still does, very classic. There was a large wooden swan in the living room I think on the tole behind the sofa. If that jogs anyone’s memory. Anyway please tell him I’ve admired him, and! my husband and I both worked for HGTV and the other sister channels as part of the production crew but unfortunately never got to work with you or your dad but would have loved to. Have a Merry Christmas. Your mom is very diplomatic and charming!
Oh how funny! Yes Dad and I both worked for the channel and production companies that produced for them for years! My first start in video was with those Networks, HGTV, DIY, Food Network and Fine Living Network! Such great memories :) I'll ask Dad about the Living Room!
Thank you so much for this video, I loved it! I was trying to decide what to make for dessert for Christmas, and then I saw this video. The cake is the winner- I am going to try it- sorry Beth! Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Your mom and dad look so healthy, happy and tan, Beth! Blessings to you all. I am with mom, it’s cake over candy nearly every time. Was surprised the cake had no eggs, which must be why it looked so delicate and fluffy.
I know, right! It’s the vinegar!
I will make both! I smiled throughout this entire video!!
I know this is a food channel, but can we take a moment to appreciate Beth’s mom’s earrings? And her perfectly positioned pinky while eating the cake? How fab is she!? 🤩
Always fun with you and your dad. Love the recipes thanks for sharing your family and memories with us.

Thank you, Beth, for all your hard work and the great content you put on RUclips for us to enjoy. You are cheerful and fun to watch and you offer such great recipes and cooking & entertaining advice. Merry Christmas to you, your Mom and Dad. I always love to watch your Christmas videos. You and your Dad make cooking look so easy and fun. Your Mom is a wonderful addition.

Your Dad is so charming and you together are great! The cake is a winner! So interesting to know the effect of vinegar in the mix. Have a merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!!
You are so welcome! Merry Christmas to you too! So glad you enjoy the videos! (and tips!) Cooking is all about the tips isn't it?! Ha!
The making of the chocolate cake was so interesting! Between the mixing in the pan and the vinegar reaction… it would be a fun « science experiment » with young ones… or older ones 😉
Loved seeing your parents with you! I must try both. Merry Christmas! :)
Merry Christmas to you all!❤❤❤
Same to you! Hope you enjoy the turtles! But truth be told that cake is pretty good too! LOL!
I did not know that about vinegar. Love learning from you & your dad!
Oh yes! It’s the best tip ever work so well and makes the lightest fluffiest cake definitely worth a try!
Aww im so glad to hear it! I bet it was great with the ganache and the nuts! Next time try with the ice cream, it’s even better ha ha ha!
Will do!
Beth,ur mom and dad are so cute! Your mom was seriously into that cake!!! 🎄🎄🎄🍸🍾🥂🙏🎁☃️
Thank you so much for this video, I loved it! I was trying to decide what to make for dessert for Christmas, and then I saw this video. The cake is the winner- I am going to try it- sorry Beth! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
