Guys it doesn't matter if you can skate flat or not. Some people don't have rails to learn on. I have landed a Tre double and other flat ground tricks but just learned the front board today haha.

It’s cool to know that Gabe had the same struggles as me when learning these tricks 8 years ago

I learned front boards by kissing the end of the rail. Couple of those and I felt confident to slide further.

you can do that to learn how sliding feels but I am learning boardslides now and I have figured out that once you have just nicked the end of the rail enough to get the sensation of sliding down, it is actually much easier to do the trick successfully if you slide 3-4 feet rather than 12-18 inches. What I have found is that once you're used to the sensation of sliding, if you force yourself to get on the rail about 3 or 4 feet back, you tend to get on the rail much better because you have the mindset of "okay I have to slide all the way to the end or fall" whereas if you try to get on at the last foot or so, you have more of the mindset of "well i'm only gonna be on here for a split second so I'm just gonna sort of not put all my weight on in case it doesn't work out" which ultimately leads to you slipping out or even if you do slide correctly, it doesn't leave you with enough time to straighten the board out and come off cleanly. So I think the best thing is to slide the last 12-18 inches and bail out at the end, just to get used to the feeling, but once you can actually slide consistently and get on the rail, try to make yourself get on about 3 feet back.

It's frontside because he rail is in front of him, whereas backside is when the rail is in his back.Don't get confused, the title is true to its name,it's not really flatground so some "rules" change (like in some Nollie tricks fs becomes bs and vice versa) haha great vid tho, helps a lot as always:)

I wish I could’ve learned flatbar tricks sooner 😓 I just didn’t live near any skatepark for a while so I could only really skate flat ground and some gaps or stairs. Now that I live close to a park I wanna learn rail tricks and I feel kinda embarrassed because I have like all these flat ground tricks on lock but I can barely do a decent boardslide :/ I’m not gonna give up though :) the skaters at my local park are really supportive and it motivates me to learn more.

Skate-II-EDM Without the rail, it's a backside 180 because your tail is going backwards. But with slides and grinds it matters whether the rail is in front of you or not. In front of you: frontside, in your back: backside
