Problem with wooden outside doors is water hits them if there is no awning above. Pretty common for Spanish Revival architecture not to have an awning above like this situation. So why is there a dutchman ( lighter colored wooden square) on the side of the door? That is where the mailslot was in the door at one time. Replaced with a metal mailbox to the right of the door. Great job Mike. You can't tell that you replaced the bottom rail of the door now.
