One other thing I forgot to add, you can also get an idea of how this works by putting a deep socket on a 1/2” ratchet and trying to loosen a large bolt by holding only the handle of the ratchet, no assisting the head.
I think the point was “if you only have one set”. Then it should have offset. I almost never use my zero off-set but when I do, it’s all that will work
@@BAAMRanch eh he had both and he was throwing out the zero offset from the looks of things. I haven’t had a lot of situations where offset would have been usable over zero offset. And even then, usually there’s a ratchet and socket available. Cheers and thanks for joining in!

You're correct, he said he was throwing perfectly good ratchets in the bin because he preferred the offset style. No professional tool-owner ever throws out tools. Even junk tools go in a box for when a "boutique" tool is required (ie, customisation with the grinder/welder are involved)
Yeah, you'd have to pry my set of zero offset DbE (aka aviation wrenches) from my cold, dead hands. Sometimes the offset also causes an obstruction, which defeats the purpose.
Oh there’s that too. Actually, I’d love a set of zero offset with a low profile box end ( a la old Gearwrench) but with the beam of the Mac/Facom/USAG Thanks for joining in! Also, would love to see what DbEs you’re using. On the fab side, we mostly use sockets or, for the reservoirs we have biggest stubby wrenches I’ve ever laid eyes on. They’re like 1-1/2”-2” but like maybe 6” long lol
@@gtcam723 I have the Capri CP11800-6MPK-JP (8-24mm). At the time they were the only set I could find that had a 24mm wrench for a reasonable price, which I wanted because Toyota likes to use that one big chonky size for their fill & drain fasteners for transfer cases and rear diffs.

You need both period!!!! Today's cars are frikken crazy to work on!! Options,Options,Options!!!!!good job my friend!!!!
@@jefftovani5535 yep. I’d tend to agree with you there Jeff!

It’s all about options. There are needs for no offset and offset.
@@Snowmannorth yep. No offset has tended to be my preference whenever possible.

@@scod3908 in fairness some do get tossed…. But they’re usually so bad that they wouldn’t even make an alright modified tool. Lol
I have both sets of the Gearwrench wrenches.
Nice! I’ve never gotten any of their offset/reversible ratcheting wrenches. Ended up with Icons because I got a heck of a deal on them.
Use your thumb to keep the wrench level and flush if possible (I’m sure you know this).
Absolutely. And helps you index back to the bolt head if using a standard combo wrench instead of ratcheting,
