I only spray this way with Axalta. This is actually how they taught it at the Axalta training class. This paint is very thick. Which is why it covers in one coat. Unlike other paint system which usually need a minimum of 3 coats. But since it is you have to flick it a lot more on your blend so you don’t leave a halo. Then do you drop coat immediately after your coverage. Let it dry and time for clear. I love this system. Sprays and looks amazing. I have sprayed many other systems and did not spray them anything like this. Haha.
This was from the system. There were no actual chips available but the system had 2 variants. I did a sprayout of one and it matched great. Luckily. Haha.
@@everyday_painter Nice! I’ve been there before with colors that only show up in the system with limited variants and no chips, that can get a little tricky. Glad to see it worked out for you. The color gods were on your side, thankfully. Great work as always 👍🏽
Thank you! Yeah whenever that happens it’s either a good match or absolutely horrible. Haha. But I don’t mind. I keep all my sprayouts so either way I have it for next time. To me that’s one of the best investments you can make as a painter. A good sprayout library will help incredibly in the future. This M4 I actually painted the bumpers on a year or so ago. So I knew what to do with it this time. 😀
Thank you! So if I had to say one is easier it would be the DV1. Only because the DV1 is very user friendly and great for anyone. Beginners and experienced painters. To me the 5500 is very easy to spray as well but I have used satas for years. So if you like Sata I would definitely recommend the 5500. Both are great spray guns.
@@everyday_painter It will be helpful, thank you. I own both guns. Until this month, it was a solvent paint, so I felt that DV1 was easier to metallic. I was wondering what would happen after switching to water-based from next month. The person in charge said that a gun with better atomization (such as WS400) is more suitable for solid colors such as white and red because the coating film thickness is thin and pinholes are difficult to form.
Water based is great. It may take a little to transition but you’ll be fine. As for the ws400. Idk how it sprays base. I have only ever used mine for clearcoat. What system are you switching to? I have only ever had “pinhole” type issue with solids in Axalta. I have sprayed sikkens, ppg and Sherwin Williams water and never had those issues. With Axalta that happens due to how heavy you put the paint on being it is a one coat system. For me it only seems to happen on solid white.
@@everyday_painter The switching system is standox standoblue.Same base coat as spies hecker ,cromax pro. You're right.I heard that it is important not to apply it thickly and not to blow it suddenly. I will try various things after switching, thank you.
A highly reputable shop just totally botched this exact job (passenger door, fender, and rear quarter on my Austin Yellow M4. Way too light and sandy/washed out. Hopefully they can do a better job this go around... sigh
Love the color and great paintjob!!! 💯 👌🏼

Brother your way of spraying is unorthodox - it's excellent and not a lot of people can do it.

Base water or base solvent?
Water
It's a great job as always.
Which is easier to paint metallic, DV1 or 5500RP?

@@everyday_painter how remedy the “pinhole” issue. It’s honestly one of the biggest issues I have with hitec
What pressure you spraying your clear.. actually what's your set up on your ws400?
Supernova is a 1.4 tip. I spray with fluid wide open, fan about 3 1/2 turns out at 29 psi.
