Symmetry is when things are the same around an axis. Turn it and it looks the same. A simple idea with profound implications for understanding the universe and for predicting how it works. Finding symmetries, and discerning when they break, is one key for understanding fundamental physics.

Symmetry and super-symmetry are necessary components to holding together a discoverable predictably matrix, while broken symmetry and other types of symmetry are necessary requirements for a predictably matrix to work, otherwise it is not a predictably matrix, it is a pure component machine. There is no purpose in creating a universe that is no more than a component machine with super-deming methods making it ever more efficient- that would be a completely different universe than ours with a completely different purpose. I love the description of beauty... our brains and minds also function as super-pattern recognition machines... perfect symmetrical beauty would soon be ignored by our minds for the same reasons as why staring at three perfectly matched and aligned lines on a page makes one tired or cross-eyed. Or, where all things are the same the brain reads the sameness and the mind begins to invent seeing things not there because it is frickin bored.

Lisa Randall reminds me of Elon Musk in that she has an intelligence and knowledge of her subject that's on a level of its own. She has to cherry pick what she thinks the listener will understand, conscious of the fact that she could, in 0-60 in 2.4 seconds, lose the listener behind in the dust.

She's the closest person i've heard be able to convey the concepts of QM using words, the puny inadequately descriptive words of our modern languages .
We need a thousand more words 'yesterday' to enable Dr. Lisa to assist the explanation of concepts , such as 'gravity leaks'.
I submit a new word for your consideration :
Stuff = matter and energy .

Is symmetry more relevant in abstraction, like art? And to the extent that human mind is engaged in abstraction, perceptions and theories look for abstraction?

I know this is a shot in the dark, but would anyone be interested in reviewing my newest novel I’m releasing in a couple of weeks? It’s a sci-fi novel and a pretty fun read - I just need a few reviews on it to help get it out there. I’ll email you the manuscript

Yea, all authors say this about their books. I am just an ordinary person. And my wife says I am too open and critical of everything. But you might be right about it being interesting. If you are happy with that, you can send it to me.
My mail is this - immigrantgeorge123@gmail.com
On top of that, knowing that you are a sci-fi writer, you might be interested in my own book that was published on Amazon few days ago and is about EVERYTHING. In reality, in it I challenge all existing theories of theoretical physics. But that book is not only about that.
So, if you are interested, the title of it is this - My Quest to Understand EVERYTHING. by george warehouseman...
And feel free to send your manuscript to me. If you wish.

its good to have questions, even philosophical questions..... but once philosophy tries to usurp hard science with philosophical arguments, i become suspicious of human egos being the root of the "argument/debate", rather than the search for truth by meaningful hard science and experiments......
the observation of symmetry/symmetries can be just as easily pointed out by maths as they can with some potent psychoactive molecule...... observation being the keyword.
i would rather a peer reviewed experimentalist bring the data on symmetry........

The great symmetry seems to be universal-cosmic consciousness. Is there a qunta level of consciousness sort of a Planck Length of consciousness below which consciousness does not exist?

The question should be why do physicist hate the word beautiful? I always thought having a relationship with a psychiatrist would be pure misery . But I don't think I would care for being thought of as just an approximation either.i admit I find physics interesting, maybe even entertaining ,but at the same time there is something dry about it or Dehumanized when you become 33% this and 43% that and oh 26% of some of that yuk. I think humans are the only species on the planet that don't know where they fit in or if they do it's only an approxamation.i think that's why we look for symmetry because it's an interface ,it is the Inner personal connection to the outer personal connection to the world .It gives reinforcement to our ability to navigate thru what would be chaos without a map of sort to weave our way through its complexities, this is this way because that is that way ,this is up there for this must be down .symmetry is a point of reference that others can also use to share a common understanding in a harmonious and often pleasing flowing or rhythmic fashion like art nevouea or art deco or love making.physics reduces the human in proportion to the knowlodge gained but in the end was it worth it.i mean we lost the garden of Eden for knowlodge was it worth it.then again the search for answers is definitly human.some times it sucks being libra we are always looking for symmetry.

Good, I think Lisa is referring to actual symmetria and not the english ’understanding’ of the word-symmetry. The original Greek usage tended toward a slightly deeper meaning. In fact most words are like that. Many of the ancient languages are like this. Every word is a poem unto itself. Beauty belongs to the world of symmetria,...definitely. It is not beautiful. Beauty is rather inherent symmetria
