So! This is how the Internet works at its best. I have never owned a Fuji, but have followed your excellent Sony insights and advice for a while. Now have the A7Riv and three decent primes so I am all set for megapixel lens-changing Nirvana/hell. So your alternative use of a small fixed lens pocketable made absolute sense to me as a change of pace and mindset, so I got one, ex-demo. The second mindset change was to give up on RAW and enjoy the JPEG’s that Fuji does so well. Then: have some fun with it! I now have the Fuji set up to bracket three film simulations (classic neg, velvia and tri-x) on every shot. Back home, ditch two and keep whichever version worked best. Somehow more satisfying to get this in camera than in post. So enjoyable. Thanks so much

Dope review bro and I loved the photos in it.
The x100 is amazing! the film recipes and simple use are very beautiful.
I think simplicity in it just brings out the creativity in me and lets me focus on the shot and forget about the settings.

I have a Nikon DSLR as my main camera but I have a Fuji X100s as my everyday, walk around camera. I bring it with my in a small shoulder bag so when my rucksack is on my back, I use it to take photos along the way. I keep it on the passenger seat in the car, in my coat pocket. It goes most places with me. Love it.

I shoot Sony. I share just about every opinion you bring up about Fuji X100V. I also have the X100F and hold on to it as it is the camera that is always with me like a good buddy or companion. The film simulation is what hooked me from the beginning. I too first learned on film and remember buying different types of film for different looks and different assignments. To have all of that in one camera is like a gift from the past. Of course much of that same work can be done in post, but it is different when you are on location and can play in that moment.
Good content in the video. Now I want to upgrade to the X100V. Ugh...

I also fell in love with this camera....until 2 weeks ago. Had this cam for around 5 months. Just put it in my Peak Design bag and kept on my desk. Went to use it two weeks ago, and it won't power on. Tried everything, multiple OEM batteries (yes they was inserted correctly and no debris on contact pins either on battery or in camera), used external Fuji charger...nothing worked. I've owned 9 Canon DSLR's and 3 other Fuji x100 series cameras (x100, x100S, x100F) over the past 22 years of digital photography and this x100v is the only digital camera that has let me down. Shipped it off for repair last week, no news yet...hopefully not a design flaw and will just be a one off issue. However, when it is repaired or replaced, I am not too sure if I should rely on this as a solitary "keep-at-my-side" camera without some sort of back up. ...So much for trying to minimize and simplify my gear. Got it back yesterday...needed a new main board. Covered under warranty, and the tech said it may have failed due to charging batteries in-camera using the USB C. They have seen this happen. I did this a couple of times in the past, but no longer. Tip: use external charger just to be safe!

I just picked up the X100F for $900 in Silver 10/10 condition with the manuals, box, and extra accessories. Such a beautiful camera. I was going to get the X100V but the price is not worth it and I really like the D-Pad on the F because they remove the D-Pad in the V.

I shoot the A7 a lot, but I get a lot of enjoyment shooting the X100F (I had the OG and on the F right now). It's just kinda fun to click in the aperture, and you're off! It's the closest thing to the "film experience" that I've found in a digital.

I shoot Sony, I have five A7 bodies, with the latest being the Sony A7RIV. I have used Sony for professional work. They are great. I bought the Fuji x100V about a year ago. I love it, especially if I am riding a bike or wandering around. I owned the A6300 and A6500. I gave the A6500 to my daughter and sold the other. They did not capture my attention like the Fuji. Now that GFX100s is interesting, but I do love using the Sony full frames.

I'm a pro for more than 20 years now and I normally work with my A7rII/IVa. Almost one year ago I got my X100V and I just love this tiny tool. Awesome RAWs and if I want, I decide for one film simulation and I'm good to go. The only thing missing (at least for me) is an in-body image stabilizer -> it would be that perfect to get tack sharp shots at night with lower ISO and f.e. 1/10s or even longer. Anyway - I already did some pay jobs with the X100V and that might prove - the V is more than just a fun tool. Thanks for your awesome review. BTW: what's the name of your posted simulation?

Great explanation of motives and just a cool journey. I traded my Full frame rig for an x100 original back in the day. I found I was missing the full frame feel and got into a sony A73 with the requisite swag of high speed primes... I just don't take my rig anywhere and find I am defaulting to my phone. When I had my x100, I took it EVERYWHERE and would easily shoot off a couple hundred images a week. I can go weeks without touching my current rig. Now I just have to work up the courage to tell the missus I'm selling up again...

Also learned on film SLRs where wanting a different ISO meant buying a new roll of film and photoshopping in the lab. I love Sony's speedy animal eye autofocus and dynamic range. I get half my best shot from Sony. But most of my photos are still old smartphone and small fuji range finders. So fun.

I am a hobbyist photographer using Fuji systems only and I love it! If I was going pro I might consider an GFX over Sony FF's. But that depends on how important it is to have the fastest auto focus on the market (that would favour Sony cameras). Btw, I got the X-Pro 3, the big brother of the X100 series. It is a joy using this camera.

In camera settings you can choose Digital Tele Converter and assign it to the front control ring , this gives you 50 & 70mm equivalent
Giving you 35, 50, 70 , not usable in RAW though but a handy travel option when on the move.

I guess my first questions are: do you still have it, do you still use it and is it everything you still want it to be? I do like this camera and had one on a free five-day loan from a local camera company. For the most part I was impressed with it though did find that there were a lot of misfires and blurry photos. I'm no stranger to Fuji, being an X-T4 owner, so I'm fairly offay with their systems. Not sure if it was user error (more than likely!) or possibly a duff camera. I know it doesn't have any IBIS which is something that is holding me back. I have read on other sites about blurry images so it's something that is known about. I have still yet to buy one but enjoyed your take on it.

It underexposes the shot while boosting blacks and midtones…. Its what folks do in LR anyway…. But in camera.

All the XT range is great, old or new, you are right about going back through menus. Some of the Sony A7/A9 R /S range is better but Fuji have a better old school feel and reach out more on updates and feedback. The in body filters and colour tech ( for what its worth) its better than Sony and Id say the menu system for sure its miles better than Sony. You mentioned you hadn't had a fujifilm camera for more than a month besides this one, so its probably ( in part) a non comparable review with other GAS or Sony hype. All this said the I think the Xt4 failed and gave Sony all the room to take control because Fuji messed up the IBIS. Nice video, great insight and thanks for sharing.

  • @dsego84

That's how I use my x-t30 as well, thinking of converting to x100v for the ovf and fixed lens. I have 4 lenses for my x-t30 already (15-45 cheap kit lens that came with the camera, 18-56mm ois kit lens bought used to for every situation, a viltrox 56mm prime because 1.4f and it was affordable, plus my favorite fuji 35mm prime), but I find that I just don't like carrying lenses around and switching between them. The dust can get into the sensor and it's annoying to do. I could have the zoom lens on all the time, but shooting with a prime is a more freeing and enjoyable experience, so I prefer to have my 35mm on, but that one can be tight when there is no room to take a step back. So either I buy more lenses (23mm or 28mm pancake) or I just get the x100v instead, and sell off the x-t30.

Great video! As a sony shooter for professional work, I couldn’t agree more. I have the Ricoh GR III as my pocket camera but the X100V was so fun to shoot with.

Man, I watched the video and really wanted to love the camera for all the same reasons you mentioned but I couldn’t get past the menu system and what felt just awkward coming from canon. Buttons didn’t seem to make the most sense. I really tried to love it but after showing the wife the images compared to what the 5dIV takes she said return it. Wish I coulda loved it like you do

Don't bother with soft shutter buttons... I used one and now my shutter button is broken... needs to be sent away to be fixed. I think they put a lot more tension on the mechanism.

But I’m also looking for a great camera for vlogging. (Btw, I don’t really like to edit my pictures a lot as I prefer natural colours.

The X100F is 3 years old and absolutely worth getting. As is the older X100T. Most of the improvements with the X100 line are improvements with auto-focus speed and upgrades of the sensor.
Also look at a used X-E3 and 27m f2.8 pancake lens. It is similar to a X100F but you can swap lenses. Perfect!

I went from the Ricoh GR iii to the Leica Q2. It's an absolute amazing piece of gear. The craftsmanship is outstanding. Using the Q2 since October last year now I want a M10-D or M-D 262. The Q2 is definitely the gateway drug to Leica.

@@akyerit also like Chris said cost is a main issue.
The equivalent Leica Q2 body and lens would be
      M10-R - £7100
      Summilux 28mm lens - £5450
The Q2 - £4500, it comes out as a bargain with what you get. And yes £4500 is still a lot of money for a camera.

Then, you can keep the camera at your eye, while reviewing the photo, if you want to. I dont chimp much but this gives me the opportunity to take a quick look at a photo without bringing the camera down to view the lcd. Good luck. Wayne
