Hades basically parents Thanatos similar to how Demeter parents Persephone (with the high expectations and comparisons), but is treated like the good guy when she is the villain. Hades is actually a worse father because Demeter actually cared about Persephone. She loved her and treated her like a daughter. Hades treated Thanatos like an inconvenience.

Ngl I actually kind of like Zeus. Yes he's one of the villains, but at least he's honest about who he is, and he's fun.

I will leave this comment under every video about lore Olympus. Imagine you leave your daughter unattended ONCE and she gets raped... It's weird that Persephone doesn't conclude that maybe her mother was right and the people outside are scary. But no, she has NIGHTMARES of being locked up in a cage when her life with Demeter looks more idyllic with her flower nymph friends and running around in fields all day. I found it weird that Persephone, someone who is supposed to be this "I don't know how the world works" persona in the beginning, doesn't run back home to her momma after having that super scary experience of being raped. It always flew over my head what Persephone's character is supposed to be. In one panel she is super dorky, shy, cute, like a sheltered baby, in another she is all gatekeep, gaslight, girl boss. Which always hit me as inconsistent. Also I didnt think that Persephone and Hades had much of a chemistry in the beginning. But they would be all touchy and weird. I thought that's just how gods are. But then they have the "talk" about their feelings... And I was like "SO YOU GUYS WERE FLIRTING?" The whole story felt rushed, and then slow, and then it made huge jumps out of nowhere and I couldn't really follow anything that was going on. I dont know much about Olympus Lore, literally so maybe that's why most things were just 'happening' without really a narrative push...

I think, for Hades' childhood, Pyrric and Victoria made a really good point in their pidcast that child version if Hades is a manipulative way gaslight resders into thinking that he's the victim, hes so small and ext.

Oh my gosh! Thank you so much for doing this topic! I have been saying for so long how Hades from LO is a massive red flag in regards to his history over women. I know many in the Unpopular Lore Olympus subreddit are now calling Hades out for his abusive behavior, but I don't really see anyone use his history of having power over women to showcase his true colors. When you get down to it, Hades really is no different than Zeus or Apollo in the fact he does use his status to get what he wants from women. But because the narrative tries to frame Hades as the best love interest for the female lead, Rachel gaslights us into believing that Hades is this white knight in shining armor, despite the fact he has done a lot of damage to the women in his life.
From using Minthe as an emotional crutch to make him better without putting in the effort to defend her and have her be co-dependent on him because he can give her money. As well as Hades have an emotional and physical affair with Hera for over a century, which his brother never knew (And I am still surprised Zeus did not say anything about it), how he threw Demeter under the bus to make sure she wouldn't be queen of the mortal realm while grooming her daughter, his constantly threatening female employees, and of course manipulating and grooming Persephone to become his queen!
To me, Hades from LO feels so much like Bojack Horseman, especially with how depressed he acts and how he abuses his power over women. I don't know if Rachel ever watched that show and thought of Hades to have that personality, but the similarities are too hard to ignore. But At least BoJack was exposed for his toxicity and power over women, which the show clearly tells us is not a good thing that he or anyone else should be proud of! BoJack also suffered the consequences of those actions and tried to get better. Yet LO makes it seem like this is normal behavior for Hades and that he’s a desirable bachelor who just needs to find the right woman to work through his issues. Even though Hades’ track record with women is a massive red flag. Throughout the comic, Hades clearly displays how toxic, power-hungry and predatory he truly is. It’s so weird that the author ignores at best, or downplays at worse, this clear trait that Hades has, which has never been addressed nor does he do anything to try and fix it. He is never called out for his actions by the other characters or the narrative, nor does he better his flaws. And anyone that does call him out, the author (and the fans) will demonize them, despite them stating real facts. And Hades didn’t learn from any of his relationships, because everything he is doing to Persephone… he’s already done with Minthe! And again, I find it so disturbing that the author wants to make Hades seem like this ideal partner for Persephone, despite his track record of women (in relationships or not), are not actually desirable and downright abusive.
Even GenericPuff from the post I commented on this stated herself: "we've talked about the similarities between Bojack and Hades before, and they really are fucked the more you think about them \(º □ º l|l)/ to the point that you could deadass replace Bojack with Hades in that "second interview" scene where the interviewer asks Bojack about the power he has over women and he denies it as if he hasn't constantly abused women and girls who trusted in him on the basis of being a well-known celebrity. ... And who does that sound like? Oh right, the "misunderstood" King of the Underworld, Hades, who has done nothing to actually prove wrong all the claims and statements made about him. Like, we're supposed to believe - according to the narrative - that Hades is misunderstood and that people only assume the worst of him due to his association with the Underworld... Now it could be a "which came first, the stigma or the reputation" type thing, where Hades started off with good intentions and then slowly morphed into a tyrannical piece of shit because most people already assumed he was gonna be like that anyways just for being the King of the Underworld, but the comic never really explores that or makes that clear. It's just constantly at odds between Hades being "poor misunderstood rich guy :(((" and "powerful king who will destroy anyone who tries to touch his cinnamon roll qween >:3" and yeah it makes for really shitty characterization, especially when reading in hindsight and realizing, "Wait, maybe Minthe was right to be upset about what Hades was doing and Hades was in the wrong".
And the depressing thing we all have to ask ourselves is... if Hades acts this way with every woman in his life and with the way he's gotten off with this behavior, then what's really stopping him from pulling the same crap on Persephone? Sure, he may "love" her now, but what's stopping him from cheating on Persephone or wanting to de-throne her later down the line? After all, Hades has a history of cheating, and once a cheater, always a cheater. Not to mention, Hades didn't fall for her because of her personality, he fell for her because of her body and age and being able to control her. And now that she has given him an actual family with blood children, she's pretty much served her purpose. The reality is cheaters and abusers don’t change. And I wouldn’t be surprised if Hades pulled a Zeus and cheated on Persephone with someone younger and more naïve than her. Probably only then will Persephone really understand that she made a grave mistake in being with Hades and that her mother was right.

What a interesting discussion video that was.🤔 Maybe you can do a full video about Hades relationship with his adopted sons, Thanatos💀 and Dionysus🍇 even though he is seen a few times in O.L. and a "what if"💁‍♀️ discussion about how they🧑‍🤝‍🧑 and Hades and Persephone's birth children👧👶 would see one another and their relationship would be when they become a family.👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 I would like to see that.👩‍💻😉👍

I do agree💁‍♀️, we could've seen Hades go to a therapy office a couple times in O.L. I never understand😒 why rich characters(outside O.L.)can't even go through therapy like for example, Bruce Wayne/Batman🦇 is a billionaire who I believe should've seen a therapist to deal with his trauma of losing his parents👫 when he was young and his relationship with his friends and his love interest with Selina Kyle/catwomen.🐈‍⬛

On the last comment I forgot to mentioned about the furies,😈🦇 Alecto, Megaera and Tisiphone for the "what if" discussion🤔 video. I wish we could've seen them in the comic.📘 In their flash back story as they enter the underworld either as children👧 or pre-teens being taken in and adopted(similar with Thanatos)by Hades to be their adopted father in O.L. In the original story they're created, fully grown after Uranus was castrated🪝 and another version they're Hades💀 and Persephone's🌺 daughters. I wish we could've seen their character development/personality and their relationships with Hades and Thanatos over time as a adopted family.👨‍👧‍👦 Like when they got older, Hades will hire them to be security guards👮‍♀️ for Tartarus. As they grow up together, Thanatos and the sisters will get to know each other and will be friends with or at least one of them.👫 And later on how it'll go when they're introduced to Persephone in the comic. I would like to see it as part for that discussion video.👩‍💻
