    Its interesting that women are always the voice of reason and compassion in every society. The burden of truth and standing on business always seems to fall on black women, who are the most consistent when it comes to bringing people into the light. But it comes at the expense of us being seen as the overly serious, ‘angry’, can’t take a joke stereotypes.

I am proud of how much the 90s baby show have achieved in building this platform, just don't lose what makes you guys unique it's always been jokes and fun but I do miss episodes of when you guys would speak about Seneca village and issues of real substance. But this defo made it clear to me that I don’t know enough about what’s going on back home. And back in Africa in general. Defo a privilege to be born here and raised here. Our pain isn’t the same back home so it’s so easy to ignore it and live your life. But us as black men or even black women defo need to educate ourselves more and stand by each other. Africa can be dominant if we stood together. I believe that.

Even Nigeria with all the glamour or our supposed wins in entertainment and all….there are tons of people dying in Nigeria daily with boko haram and the rest and its all politically motivated and all about natural resources ….there is so much to whats going on in Africa as a whole and what we need to do is stand together united , be enlighten and build communities with a purpose that can get involved back home politically at the grass root.no one is coming to save us..even protesting changes nothing and trust me i know as i have been in my fair share of protests back in Nigeria the last being endsars…

      @taiwoadeleye-davids5500.....Nigeria entertaiment industry in itself is nothing to brag about. Afrobeats is just one aspect of life, the real deal is that Nigeria is still extremly poor on a whole. Many Nigerians live in abject poverty and desire to leave the country in the millions. A oil wealthy nation like Nigeria should make the Arab Emireates and Qatar look like a joke...but its the other way around. Arabs have a vision for their countries and realized it, hence we see Dubai and Qatar today where the ''upper echolon of Nigeria'' likes to go flog their so called ''good living''. Where as Nigerian leaders have no vision at al and make sure Nigeria remains poor being a laughing stock aswell. Believe me fam all this ''Giant of Africa and Naija nr 1'' is all a facade and fake boosting. Nigerians in general are fed up with their country lack of development. Burna boy dancing and winnning grammies wont chance Nigeria to the likes of Canada, Japan, South Korea or even UK where many Nigerians would die to come for a better life.

I am always for giving credit where credit is due and I appreciate them for always taking accountability if they've hurt a community. No one is perfect so perfection is not achievable, so you need to look at how people react when they've been wrong. The difference with 90s baby and most of us is their mistake is amplified. so if we can accept our downfall, why can't we accept people will also fall short. A point that also is crucial is how the capitalist system works in destabilising in that region as well, for us to truly understand this we need to go back and discuss colonialism, imperialism, capitalism , white supremacy and many other factors.There is a book called 'The Wretched of The Earth' by Frantz Fanon that helps you understand that aspect of things as well as intense research on Patrice Lumumba and other Congolese revolutionaries that fought hard for the rights of the DRC people. Another important books/articles include, 'The Back End of Genocide", 'Congo Bleeding for Cobalt: A Genocide in the Making', 'The Eyes of the World', 'Cobalt Red', 'King Leopolds Ghost', 'Dancing in the Glory of Monsters', 'In the Footsteps of Mr Krutz', 'Consuming the Congo' and 'The Lumumba Plot'. This was great, because it symbolises that people can come together and make things right - regardless of level.
    It will be interesting to see how episodes go going forward because there will be that feeling of awkwardness when it comes to jokes.
    I can’t speak for Tom in regards to whether his intent was to be malicious behind the joke, however, I can tell the 90s boys didn’t mean to cause any harm by laughing.
    But where do we actually draw the line? Jokes - of different degrees - are made, and have been made all the time. How people receive them is subject and not one person is the same.
    Will we eventually get to a place where we’re unable to make any sort of joke? If so, I fear that unfortunately and eventually we’ll start to see the decline in shows/podcasts

    • @Laura-sg6ss
      @Laura-sg6ss 9 месяцев назад +1

      There should be a line. We can all agree joking about rape no matter who you are or what your style of humour is like, is a no go zone! It’s wrong to talk about an ongoing current fresh situation that includes the most horrific crimes

    • @NinetysEra
      @NinetysEra 9 месяцев назад

      @@jessicadembo5753 I hear you, but because your point speaks for some and not all, that’s what I mean by how people receive jokes being subject to the person.
      Not everybody has the same viewpoint as you and may find it okay (it’s arguable whether or not that’s okay in itself), however, should that group then find another podcast for example? Then that podcast gets shut down for spewing what’s considered as vulgar jokes/content? Then we end up back at my final point of seeing a decline

  • @XsweetstarliteX

    Everyone talks about Wakanda and a black civilization that prospers thanks to their natural resources. THAT IS CONGO! vibranium is the cobalt and other precious stones. But colonialism and neo-colonialism is what has disrupted and destroyed that progression. As a nigerian, who is pan african, knowing a sprinkle about the politics in other african countries is extremely important. We know what the Americans are on, we know what’s happening in UK but we close our eyes to what’s happening back home. Its like we’ve chosen to leave them behind because its tough and scary. But still…its worth a try, we owe it to our parents and their parents, who left for a ‘better’ life, so we should also do what we can to make our mothers home a better place.

      @XsweetstarliteX.....Cmon man Wakanda is fictive something one should not take to serious but more as insperation. A so called ''Blk'' civilization that prospers on natural recources is not Congo at all. Congo is not even a civilization but remenant of a Belgian colonial territory designed to group a large land mass with very diverse ethnic groups that are not related to one another. Within the DR Congo there was no civilization that was recognizable to what Wakanda suppose to be, we have to be realistic in this. No one in Congo is so called ''blk''. That is given term Western Europeans gave the diverse people in so called Africa. Doesn't mean people have to adapt to these labels. If you give others the power to define you, then of course you already lost. Asians where called Yellow people and look today. Westeners do not there to call ( Chinese, Koreans, Japanese ''yellows'' because they have power, influance, structure and organisation. Alot African people are willfully ignorant and do not really want change because to change you have to change your mentality, ideologies, outlooks. To many Africans have a colonial mindset even if they think they don't. Nigerians and Congolese are extremly passive Christians, who value UK and Belgium more then there own culture, identity, values and principels. Both come to their fomer colonies for a ''better life'' yet their own are messing up the home base. Both have abundant natural resources and are among Africa's poorest countries. Despite all the allure of Nigeria with ( music, film, entertaiment) the majority are suffering with low economic development. In DR Congo its even more worse.

    I appreciate the conversation from you all as a Congolese woman - We all make mistakes I appreciate the immediate growth and acknowledgement keep doing great things guys. I especially appreciate our congolese sister. 🙏🏾 But can I add some cultural context for a bit a brief educational summary. Im worried the situation in Congo is still vague after the discussion.

      1. Congo is a huge country its approximately the size of England, France, Germany and spain combined and has the largest rainforest in Africa only second to the amazon. Congo and amazon rainforest were once considered the lungs of the world. Keeping in mind the size of the country the conflict is in the east. West North and South are like any other african country and are tourist spots to visit cities, wildlife like Gorillas, Okapi and Leopords. One of the most biodiverse and mineral rich country in the world. Without Congo we the world would lose a lung and 85% of materials needed for technology.

    • @madamcongolese
      @madamcongolese 9 месяцев назад +6

      3. Congo after kicking out the Belgium, Dutch and French was thriving people all over Africa at one point wanted to visit or study there but the fear has always been if Congo continued to grow espcially under Patrice Lumumba who like Sankara was assasinated - Congo would have been the Dubai of Africa and would have influenced growth throughout the continent meaning the west would not be able to benefit from Congos resources, Nigerias oil, Sierra Leone' Diamonds, Ghanas chocolate for free. Thats why people like Malcom X said black people will not be free until Congo is free.

      4. What people can do to support Congo. Its hard because even I myself could do more but theres so many causes, from END Sars, Sudan etc. and people are just trying to make it in the diaspora, in Africa, in the caribbean in America, Europe, UK etc. But practical things are - support our culture, congolese music is one of our biggest export, in the 80s and 90s Congolese music was as popular as afeobeats. Supporting our culture puts us on the map therefore highlighting our countries beauty and struggles. Tourism, Congo has beautiful spots to visit that are conflict free pumping into the economy pumps into the local people and could trickle down to protecting places like Goma and not into corrupt politicians. Donate to a congolese charity everytime you buy an electronic device or vehicle etc. We cannot avoid technology but we can give back each time to the country and the people who bleed for us to have it. To have tech jobs, pocasts, new whips etc. Try congolese foods restaurants like Deluxe Manna or anywhere in North London. Ntaba is elite! Congolese mikate A1, rice and beans. I hate that some content creators act like all we eat is bush meat.

      4. We can have bants as africans, about sapeurs how congolese dress, how Nigerian men are players and Ghanians love egg lol. But genocide is where we should draw the line. Nothing wrong with banter but as black people disgusting jokes about slavery or boko haram or genocide is not okay. We need to know when its funny and when we are exploiting trauma. The genocide is so serious they are SA'ing women then cutting off body parts to push them south and east to steal land and resources. I myself my family are not from the East but the people affected are still our fellow Africans and Congolese and everyone might know someone affected. And it is true, in the UK the culture centres around West africans, Jamaican and english speaking countries. Where as in France Congo, Ivory Coast, Senegalese cultures are mors popular as well as Martinique Haiti, Gaudalope and these francophone Caribbean islands so the awareness isnt there in UK. We can all learn and give each other grace. 🙏🏾

      @@madamcongoleseAll this comparisons in who is popular and which center of cultures is more prominent. Its a given that in the UK Jamaican/ West Indian and Nigerian cultures are prominent and in France is Francophone Afrique and Antilles. That is to be me honest not even relevant as the focus is on DR Congo. Congo is a very poor country and with alot issues. It can not be compared to most other African counties i.e Botswana, Ghana, Algeria, Mauritius which are very safe countries, developing and stable places to live. People romanticize DR Congo but many regions are very underdeveloped to such a extend HDI has placed it as one the poorest countries in Africa. That is hard reality Congolese community needs to understand its on them to safe and develop their nation.
